The University Thread

I'm in the middle of trying to get all my ducks in a row so that my work experience I need to get my degree can go smoothly, and now my mom is trying to force me to start now. I already saw how my brother's search is going since she prodded him into going sooner than he wanted (an abysmal train wreck), and now I get to deal with a that painful joy. I already told her that I can't do it now because of the work experience paperwork deadlines, and she still doesn't get that I have to wait before I can do it.

So, one or two of my current semester has to be retaken with a short semester, i believe. I have a bad feeling about this since this is my first time and im on the third semester. Will be taken after the 4th semester so it may be more. If anyone has gone through it, then tell me.

Also, anyone gone holiday? Me is next week from now. As usual will be busy for the first 2 weeks.
Not sure exactly what you mean... Did you fail a class and you need to retake it?
I would advise against retaking a class in a shorter semester if you failed the first time in the first attempt at a full 16 week schedule.

Should probably tell her what you just said, that he failed at that the first time, what makes you think I'm any different?

That would be easier if she had common sense, but she lost that a good 15 years ago. I don't have any leads for a placement yet which she knows (or for that matter, anything ready to go), but she keeps saying that I should just leave it up to the school to figure out instead of letting me actually get some things done. I already told her that now especially is a terrible time to try to scramble since they are in the midst of placing people at this moment, but she still won't listen.

Best to give that woman the silent treatment.

How to sum up this semester...

I started with a 2.68....

And finished with a 3.33....

In order for me to get a transfer scholarship for the college I'm going to, I needed a 3.25....

....

Goodbye, community college, hello, uni!

How the hell did you manager to get enough aces to bump your GPA that high? How many semesters have you been in so far?

First semester of this year, 2nd semester in that community college, and because of replacement grades.

I re-took my past two D classes again and finished the semester with them being a B, with the addition of my Pre-Cal class being a B, as well.

I skipped almost every single economics class this semester. Maybe attended 3 or 4 times that I could be bothered to. Now from two 25 people groups I somehow was the only one to score 90% on the test without studying a single tiniest bit.

Go figure, I love college.

I'm surprised you didn't get dropped...

Here they were slightly enforcing attendance only in the first term, later most professors don't bother as long as you show up for the tests and turn assignments in. Some will check the attendance if your final grade is somewhere on the line between two numbers, but other than that you're free to go. :)

I'm retaking Pre-Calc for next semester. Since i finished with a D.

You in America can retake stuff if you got a bad grade?

Lucky. If we retake anything it is capped at the lowest possible pass mark.

I'm having a very hard time with Linear Algebra and Analitic Geometry, that 🤬 is so hard, trying to work with multiple dimension bases and matrixes with everything but your imaginations is too much for me. Also working in MatLab is proving to be very tricky for me. Chemistry, physics and calculus should be smooth sailing

I finished my first semester with a 3.534. That's a couple tenths higher than what I started High School with so I am happy. I do think I could've gotta a 4.0 though if I had worked harder and not procrastinate as much as I did.

Arts? Politics and International relations is what I am doing.
I thought you were doing multiple subjects, it's called arts in Ireland and is pretty poor for jobs afterwards.

Multiple subjects like Psychology, Politics and History for example.

I've been accepted to uni with a $3,000 annual scholarship. Motorsports engineering is my listed major but as with most things there's always the possibility of change. I've also considered social work, law enforcement, and education.

Psychology is one of those things that are useless unless you do the rest to become a registered doctor.
Politics, History and Philosophy are considered classics. They will get you a job because they are thought of as good degrees not because they relate to the job. Although I want to do something related to my degree.

In Ireland they're done side-by-side half the time and are pretty much useless unless you do further study.

We have PPE (Politics, Philosophy and Economics) which seems popular with politicians but apart from that we don't really have that. Everything is separate.

I've actually been considering minoring in some form of Art degree, anything that would help me with mosaic artistry.

Phew. I thought my scores is so terrible i would take again short classes. Turns out i wrong. Nothing special. But pretty good with most quite far above the passing standard.

Currently gained 3 conditional offers from John Moores Liverpool, University of Derby and University of Worcester. Now just waiting on Nottingham Trent and Manchester Metropolitan to finish reviewing my UCAS application.

Nottingham Trent.
I am about to finish there. It is ok teaching wise although the choice of societies sucks and I swear the SU is corrupt. The city is nice.

What are you hoping to study?

It's my 4th choice. I am surprised I already got 3 offers so quick.

I have applied to study Law.
