Famine has it right. We continue on with our lives like nothing has changed, whilst remembering those we have lost. That's how you will beat this, with tolerance and freedom.

I'm gonna take issue with the word "tolerance" here. Maybe what you mean by that is not blaming innocent individuals who might be viewed by some as having characteristics associated with the terrorists (such as being Muslim, or having a particular nationality, or even skin color). But we definitely cannot beat this by being tolerant of terrorist attacks.

The Muslims that blow themselves up are fulfilling their mission regardless of whether people go to concerts or sporting events afterward. They fulfilled their mission just by killing a few infidels and getting killed in the process (thereby guaranteeing entry to heaven and absolving them of their sins). Ignoring it isn't going to make it go away, that bargain will be there 20 years from now for Muslims just as it is now.

We stand behind the sanctity of indoctrinating children with religious beliefs as tolerance, and then watch as those kids grow up to kills us. I think socially we need a culture shift away from respect for religion, especially fundamentalist views.

Why did you quote my post from a different thread? If you want to quote me do it in the correct thread. Could you delete it from this thread please.

It seems that IS' Filipino chapter, Maute, has become a bit more active the last couple of days.

Duerte has interrupted his trip to Russia and declared a state of martial law on the southern island of Mindanao for 60 days, after fight broke out in the city of Marawi.

He also asked Russia for help and weapons to fight them.

Because I wanted to take the conversation in the direction of this thread. This is the correct thread for my response.

What? You don't get to dictate where I quote you. That's my post.

It just seems strange, let's at least wait until we know if ISIS were responsible for the Manchester attack. They've claimed responsibility, of course, but then they do that even when it had nothing to do with them. I think we shouldn't jump to conclusions.

With regards to this thread specifically, it's very concerning how things in Marawi are unfolding if these images are to be believed.

It seems like a small(ish) group called Islamic State of Lanau who affiliate themselves with ISIL-proper. I'm pretty sure we won't see them have the kind of success that ISIL have had in the Levant but yes, very concerning.

The news is reporting it as real. Time is reporting the police chief was beheaded and now Duterte has enacted Marshall law in the region. Apparently the militant Islamic terrorists have taken over several government buildings and burned some churches and a school.

Here's stick in the sand linking ISIS to Manchester.

The NY Times (neoliberal establishment organ with CIA connections?) reports the bomber was a "mule" recently recruited by a Manchester-based organization to carry out the attack. Their reporting further links him to ISIS .

the French interior minister, Gérard Collomb, said on Wednesday that Mr. Abedi had “most likely” gone to Syria and had “proven” links to the Islamic State.

I'm taking sentiments in the conversation of the Manchester attack and extracting principles for application to this conversation.

Although it begs questioning why they hadn't already struck the bases...
I really don't know, but they seem to follow a pattern of, leave us alone, we'll leave you alone. Attack us we'll hit back.
Seems far more effective than arresting a few people...

Edit: ISIS has claimed responsibility.

As well as being the wrong kind of Muslim, you can now be the wrong kind of terrorist!

Indeed. All because they support the wrong side of Islamic terrorism.

Certainly some hypocrisy... but then that's been a hallmark of some superpowers' "war on terror" for years, no? And this is at least a start of a recognition of problems, to my mind it's better than the zero recognition that officially existed previously.

This shows absolutely nothing.

Perhaps one thing. That Muslims are divided by the way they believe in their fairy tale.

It's still Saudi Arabia vs Iran. Sunni vs Shiite.

The violence may be less in Holland but in the UK we've certainly felt the effects of schism in the fairytale (Caddies .vs. Proddies). That's the problem with the fairytale, nobody can really agree on what it actually is :D
