There's a chance the UK temperature record might be broken on Wednesday, and it was only set a few years ago. Can you say global warming?

I think it's about 34c today and could well be 39c in parts of the UK on Wednesday. It's uncomfortably hot outside until about 5pm and the nights are horrible. Still, we'll all be complaining when it's gone. ;)

It's 31 degrees in my office :ill: But I just went outside for a walk to Sainsbury's (we're having a BBQ leaving party at work at 5pm!) and it felt alot hotter than I'm feeling right now... :scared:

Weird. I thought the same thing - it WAS broken a few years ago. I remember that day clearly. Then, on the news early this morning, they were saying that the record was still one recorded in 1911, and didn't mention the "record" a few years ago at all.

I think I remember the 100 Degress day aswell.

Extremmelly hot today, I normally wear black tracksuit trousers in P.E, but today I forced myself for shorts.

I'm glad I made that choice...

I think I've made a indoor swimming pool out of sweat here...

Blimey ok, Patios + Sunlight x Bare Feet =
:scared:

Is that all-time record or record for that day?

The hottest July day ever in the UK was in 1911, the hottest day ever in the UK (which happened to be in August), was in 2002/2003 (I forget). The hottest sustained period was in 1976, I believe, but this last couple of weeks could challenge that record.

Looks like the UK July temperature record did indeed tumble today. I think there was a temp recorded at Gatwick Airport somewhere in between 37-38 degrees celcius.

So that's the July record and all-time record falling within a few years. I think the highest ever October record fell in 2005 as well? Interesting...

It's not that bad right now(around low 70's). Tomorrow's supposed to be in high 90's, then over 100 for next three days straight after that. :indiff:

Sakiale
Fluctuates, from 80 F at 9AM to 110 F at 1PM (well, 108, and probably not exactly 80 either)
You should change your "location". :D

Yeah, seriously...That doesn't sound like any Surrey, British Columbia that I know

Tomorrow, we get the same heat that everyone else in the country is complaining about. It's really amazing that the entire country is 90+ degrees at the same time. Fortunately, we don't get that blasted humidity with it :D

We had a huge storm last night, fortunately it woke me up so I could shut all the windows.

Yeah. Late afternoon yesterday the wind perked up very suddenly and started blowing open all of our windows, so we had to pull them closed. It then started raining hard for 10 minutes, then went.

That breeze was so nice, though...

Here in CT it's been a bit warmer than usual - mid to upper 90s - and we had a wicked thunderstorm on Tuseday night/Wednesday morning. One of my friends said it was the craziest storm he'd seen in 10 years.

It was heavy thunder and lightening here, probably the loudest I've ever heared. It was going on for at least an hour.

We've definitely got storms where I am in the East of England. It's very humid at the moment though, just checked the temperature in my car and it's hovering around 36 degrees.

I hate you both.

Right now it's warmer in my office than it is inside my body, and marginally more humid than the Pacific Ocean. What I wouldn't give for a decent hour's worth of lightning.

I can't wait for the storms to start. It was like trying to sleep in between to fat people last night, I didn't even move and I was sweating.

Famine, my advice, get yourself an air conditioning unit. Harass the boss if you have one. What floor is your office on by the way?

2nd.

There is no upper limit for safe working temperature - though there is a lower one - in the UK, so there is no obligation to provide cooling.

I feel sorry for the people who has Sports Day at the local high-school here yesterday. I really can't see why they can force 200+ childeren into the hot sun when people are advising them to keep out of it. I doubt many even put suncream on!
