There is no upper limit for safe working temperature - though there is a lower one - in the UK, so there is no obligation to provide cooling.
Are you allowed to bring in your own fan? Our office air systems were all screwy last year and the year before (they cleaned the filters and they worked suddenly, imagine that) so I went to the local home store that was having a tent sale and got a desk fan for $2.99. It didn't make it great but I wasn't miserable either.

You must get some breeze on the second floor, although it depends on how many windows you've got and how much electrical equiptment running. Every half hour or so my photocopier blasts out warm air onto my back.

I have four fans in the room, all bought with our departmental budget. They do not an awful lot. I refer to them as "Kyotos".

No breeze at all. We have one wall with any external surface at all, and part of that wall is against a liftshaft. Another part of the building juts out perpendicular to it, stopping almost all of the prevailing winds which don't currently exist anyway. We have one window, the opening of which measures 25cm by 75cm. Oh, and the loft space, with all its insulation, is directly above us.

Sounds.....kind of 'sweaty'. I have run out of ideas. Only one thing left to do really, I hate to say it but your going to have to get nekked to keep cool. Just tell the ladies that it is necessary because you are really hot. Obviously tell them that they can nekked aswell and that you won't be offended. Just make sure your wife/ves dont' pop into your place of work.

Damn this heat is really going to my head.

I feel sorry for the people who has Sports Day at the local high-school here yesterday. I really can't see why they can force 200+ childeren into the hot sun when people are advising them to keep out of it. I doubt many even put suncream on!
Oh come on! How hot is it? 35-40 degrees? That's hot, but you're not going to die if you go out and play in it. Just have plenty of water on hand, and you're good to go. We have a heat advisory now in effect, but that's really just the National Weather Service's way of saying "it's kind of hot outside".

Interesting. My employer has no obligation to provide cooling, but they do because they want to keep their employees happy.

You use a computer right? Doesn't it overheat if the ambient temperature is 98.7+ degrees?

Every second news report on TV at the moment is to do with sunburn, skin cancer and putting suncream on. Not just putting "some" on, but putting lots on. And now, you can't even rub it in because it does no good. If you don't, you shouldn't be in the sun. They're that worried about it yet they let so many people go out in it still, medical experts hoping that they'll be as white as a ghost during the process? Take it indoors - the hall are big enough.

Edit:
Maybe I'm getting brainwashed!

When you're used to an absolute peak of 32 most years, and 9 months of drizzle and 12, 38 degrees is bloody hot.

danoff - doesn't seem to have so far. My datalogger (I keep a record of the lab temperature) is plugged into it... :D

I hate you both.

Right now it's warmer in my office than it is inside my body, and marginally more humid than the Pacific Ocean. What I wouldn't give for a decent hour's worth of lightning.
I'm still sweating like a farmers arse. Even though it chucked it down last night it's still been in the low 30's today, despite also being heavilly overcast, which it still is.

Well I had to sit through an hour of listning to Islamic blabber in school while it was over 33 degrees outside :(

Just to rub it in a bit:

I am going to assume you don't have a heart condition and have never passed out from heat like this.

A heat advisory is to let you know you need plenty of fluids and if you have a medical condition that requires you to avoid unneeded stress on your body you shouldn't be outside.

Weather like this can be deadly to some people and animals. I saw my cat the other day lying on his side panting, tongue hanging out and everything. If I am outside in this for more than about 30-45 minutes I start feeling sick and seeing spots, and I am not as bad as some others.

So, while a heat advisory doesn't mean a whole lot to the healthy, other than it's really hot outside, it carries a significant warning to those of us whose lives depend on avoiding this.

Mowing has been fun. I have to section off the yard and finish a section and then come in for about a half hour and drink a lot of water before going out to do more. It took me three days to get what I can usually do in one evening.

Mowing has been fun...
For us, it has been 80-100 for the last few weeks and no rain. We got a few sprinkles yesterday, but no nearly enough. Therefore, my grass hasn't grown at all in a month.

I was building a new front steps/landing for my mom and dad last week when it was 102. I drank 2 liters of Gatorade over 3 hours and never went to the bathroom. :scared:

A few weeks? HA! Every bit of grass I've come accross is completely dead because of the lack of rain here. 'cept the 90-year-old's garden next door...

And they call us wet Britain. :D

I've unfortunately gotten enough rain to keep things too wet and have to mow more than I would like.

First hot day of this year I went out mowing, not realizing how hot it was, and I started getting sick and having a headache so I came in. I walked in saying how hot it was to my wife and she looked at me and said, "but you aren't sweating." I sat down in front of the a/c with a glass of water and told her to call an ambulance if I passed out. Once she was sure I wasn't going into heat stroke she finished the mowing for me. Of course, I had to go out the next day and clean-up where she mowed. :indiff:

EDIT: I heard on the radio that at the British Open (or The Open for some of you) that the ground was so hard and dry that no one was using drivers because the balls were rolling 60-100 yards.

Okay, this is true. But in general, temperatures north of 90 degrees aren't uber-dangerous to those without medical concerns, provided they have the means to protect themselves against heat exhaustion. GT was commenting about "forcing" school children outside in such conditions, and I was responding that it's not as cruel as he made it seem. If there is access to water and shelter from the sun, it's not a problem for most people. If the school said "okay let's go on a 30-mile hike carrying 100 pound backpacks", then it's an issue.

Playing fields tend to have neither. They are big open spaces away from buildings and without trees. School Sports Day = Playing Fields.

Trust me, when I done a sports day it's SO active for hours you cannot have a break to have a drink or any shade. Yes, there are drink stalls, but you go to that in turns of an hour - or more - between.

So, you get sunburnt, flustered, VERY hot and stucky and almost de-hydrated. How more fun can a sports day be?

Considering over the last 51 years, we had an average rainfall of 10", 11" and 10" for May, June and July and this year we have had 1.99", 1.34" and a trace, we are a bit behind. I guess 2 months ago was a bad time to buy those new trees for my backyard. :ouch:

The hard part for me personally is how to get a 2 year old outside to run off some of that 2 year old energy when it is this hot. Also figure in the fact that my other son can't take the heat (No comments about a kitchen, please. He has cystic fibrosis) and I am in a world of hurt.

That sounds like most sports to me

Okay, I've never been forced to play in 100 degree heat. When I do, it's of my own accord, and I bring plenty of water and sunscreen. I guess that makes a difference.

Raining cats and dogs and blowing a gale! Wind is like ice! Had hail earlier on in the day. All in all, it is absolutely freezing! The joys of winter!

Cold, Cold, Cold, Cold with a touch of warmth.

Raining cats and dogs...not really but last week I did aquire a Chihuahua that came from the sky.

It's not that hot today, just about T-Shirt temperature so compared to the other days this weeks it's cold.

Cold, damp and horrible all day! Diudn't stop me wearing my GTPlanet shirt though!

I'm bracing myself for the high temp of 104 around 4PM today. I get off work at 5:30, but I might stick around there for a while, it's air conditioned there.......

We hada storm system go through and cool things down. It's only going to be 90 today.

I miss winter, and snow, and ice, and all the fun that goes along with it.

According to Forecastfox, it is 11C in Renmark (the closest BOM measuring station), so that would make it aroun (c here right now. I have my feet on the blowhole of my PC, trying to warm them up, but it is blowing cold air :(
