Driving line was definately important, the diff. settings made it quite hard to steer so a more 'imaginative' line was needed. Looking at MS's McLaren run, the car reaches a higher speed going into the tunnel than mine so there's probably more room for improvement there... but I'll leave that for another time, I've been making some progress with setups for other cars ;) - needs more refining but I can sense it's getting there.

Finally after 2 days I reached a speed higher than 320 in my ZZII. I know after recent events that this is certainly not a milestone car-wise, it is for me tuning-wise. No wheel's came off of the track during this run.

Here is the session record picture.

Congrats with the speed and I guess the 2 days work paid off 👍

Hi Vander, and welcome to the Club! It's nice to see a new member who isn't satisfied with just breaking 300mph with their first speed 👍

Keep on fine-tuning it :)

Thanks, I just wish I could eek that extra 50 mph out of her, I'm juggling between three identically tuned ZZII's testing all kinds of different settings. I also managed to hit 276.66 in the Chaparall 2J using only 1st gear, but it seems like higher gears just make that car go slower.

I think it might be your gear settings are too high, and the car doesn't have enough power to match it. Try lowering the settings a little.

What I meant by is that I have tried many different tunes on the 2J and I have set first gear so wide that it can hit 276.66 without shifting; however, I can't find any tunes utilizing all three gears that can make me go faster than I can using only 1st.

In "Like the Wind" utilizing drafting I can hit 290 Here is the 2J setup the way I currently have it.
Race: Like the Wind
Car: Chaparral 2J
Avg Speed: 260-265 in 1st gear.
Top Speed: 289 (when I caught the main pack and drafted by them.)
When the Minolta hit 200, I was going 53
Fastest Lap: 127.???
I even smacked the upper turn walls twice flew into the air and maintaing not only velocity but stability as well. Both times I came back down onto the surface at about 230 and did not even wobble as the car took back off.

Settings:
Tires: Superhard(har will prob work)
Turbo:Stage 4
Brakes: 6 f / 6 r (doesn't matter you won't touch them.)
Suspension
Spring rate front 15.6 Rear 11.6
Ride Height: F:55 R:55
Shock Bound: F:4 R:4
Rebound F:8 R:8
Camber: F:2.0 R:1.0
Toe: F:1 R:-2
Stabilizers F:6 R:6

ASM oversteer: 15 understeer: 5
TCS:2

Limited slip
Initial Torque:10
Accel: 50
decel20

Transmission (this is tricky, set you final gear as high as it will go, then set auto to 25, then set final gear as low as it will go)
First Gear:.762 (full metal jacket)
2nd: doesn't matter
3rd: doesn't matter

final 2.500
Auto 25

It's quite fun passing the minolta at 290 in 1st gear. The car was exceptionally stable on this run. I will fine tune this setup as much as I can.

If you have the 2J you have to try this.

You might like to transfer those settings right over to the 2D and see how they work - after all, the 2J has never been a 300mph car, but the 2D is quite capable - and, I think, just as stable. Interesting cars, no doubt... :)

Oh, and take off the driving aids. :P

I just copied my setup from a different forum I posted in about 2 months ago, I have learned to step away from the driving aids crutch in the past couple of weeks, and I must say it has infinitely improved my GT4 experience.

I'll try them on the 2D and see what heppens.

Actually, Bugatti are French, owned by the Volkswagen Audi Group, which is German.

And that would refer to a Veyron owned/tuned by a Russian, don't you think?

It's not a lesson on automotive history either, but there you go. :P

DE

Actually :odd:, Bugatti is founded by an Italian who started a business in a part of Germany that later became the property of France. :sly:

I have a quick question regarding gear ratios for top speed races. If the gear ratio graph lines are identical (graphs look the same as far as lines displayed) but the final drive gear is a higher number, does that mean that car will have an easier time chewing through sixth gear?

New time in my Mclaren F1. I couldn't get to 300 in 6th so I dropped her gear ratio down far enough to hit 300 in 3rd! Just barely squeked by though. I don't know how ya'll are running 309's!

Which, seeing as racing Bugattis have always been classed as French cars rather than being remotely connected to Italy or Germany, makes them a pretty French company, wouldn't you say? :P

Nice work, Vander, keep playing around with your gear ratios... 👍 You'll get in the right direction before long. And, yes, a larger final drive ratio (numerically higher) will equal shorter gears.

If it's got too much mileage, then it'll lose hp permanently. it might be time for a new car. Some of us here, when attempting for records, might go thru 2or 3 cars trying to get past them.

Wow I would have never thought that that would happen I've just been renewing the oil :dopey: I've done about 900 miles in the Gillet so do you recon it's time for a new one? If it is it looks like I'll be going round winning the Toyota rally raid car 5 times to raise sum cash :sly:

Vander, nice work with the 88C-V.. even more impressive was the double tasking, I could vaguely see you holding the camera in one hand and working the controller with the other.

Hope the verification goes well 👍

Pyrelli

Thanks Pyrelli it's been quite an adventure trying to eek extra mph out of this car, and my house has quite a few windows so if you look closely you can see all kinds of interesting things in the glare off of the T.V. Does anyone know id Formula Gt's 366 mph test video is still floating around somewhere?

***wheels did leave the ground, I found daylight under the tires about half a second before the finish, sorry for the false post***

This is what happens when you've been working for 2 days trying to get your minolta to do 366 and then you slap the setting onto a gtone. My first run was 341.00, then i realized I didn't have the stage four turbo installed. It will of course have to be verified, as far as I could tell the inside camber of my front tires never left the ground.

I did see under the tires, so back to more tuning, hopefully I'll be able to dial it down just a hair and produce a legit run with this car.

<GT-One Speed>
Which speed does the message at the top of this post refer to? Please be very specific, I don't want to have to go over videos in detail when there's no need to do so :)

Oh, and by the way, stacking three 350mph-plus speeds on top of each other is not the best way to get me to verify them quickly ;)

Hey, Vander, some impressive speeds.

A few suggestions regarding the videos.

From my perspective (and I think DE would agree), photomode at, or at most 1MPH before peak speed is what is needed. Doing this 10MPH below the posted speed is unnecessary and, more to the point, doesn't really prove anything.

To make the videos better I would suggest either drawing the blinds or even better, video at night (which is what I do) to eliminate reflections. Also try putting the camera on a stack of books or whatever is available to get it to the right height and then point it at the TV, that way you don't have to juggle it and the controller.

Good luck with both cars 👍

Thanks 2078TM good advice, I'll take better vids from now on, just got a little excited yesterday about being able to finally upload videos.

Dark EliteThe wheels came off in the 373.22 mph run in the GTone, sorry for posting it, but it happens only for about a second and I had missed it on my first 2 times through, from looking under the car. I have since gone back and read the thread and caught mention of some of the ways people have used to check whether the tires are off the ground. I used those methods and found the light under the rubber.

Hey Tornado, any luck with the S7.

As you can see, I'm having no luck at all.
(I'm suprised this picture turned out so well and all the others look like crap.)
Oh well....

But I did make progress on few others though.

I can get video, if needed.

edit: CRAP!
oh well, this link should work.

Well I took Crimson_Menace's advice and bought and modded a brand new Gillet, set it up like the old one and churned out a 306.95 :) still not quite there but its close :nervous: please let it be close :nervous:

Vander, having watched your 361.13mph 88C-V video, I'm afraid I must agree with 2078TM's Post #6443, as that video is very low-quality and the close-up is a long, long way away from the maximum speed. Sorry, but I can't accept that as verification.
Pyrelli

It's been done ;) the one and only verification video I've done involved such control-juggling :P

Nice work, Cha05, keep pushing it closer... You've got another 2.89mph to go ;)
