Hard to make a choice of hardware when the ffb in GT7 isn’t the best at the moment.
Only drive GT7 on PS5 :/

Was planning to buy a GT Pro 8nm bundle, people said it was missing ffb on straights.

Waited for this T598, people are complaining that it lacks strength and they feel no ffb.

Starting to look at the Logitech Pro which is way out of my initial budget, nearly convinced myself to take the plunge.
Then i read that much of the True Force was removed…

Started looking at the GT Extreme, read that FullForce isn’t implemented.

I now have doubled my initial budget and even then it feels impossible to make a decision based on peoples comments. A year from now i will probably still be sitting with my old G29.
It is a total minefield. Reviews are all over the place. I was sold on the T598 but implementation on PS5 not being as good as PC is a major downer. I agree Logitech is looking best but with pedals so expensive although im only just hearing True Force has been removed :embarrassed: Why would they do that? Just checked out the GT Extreme - Wow looks and sounds awesome but £1299 without pedals. Wife would divorce me.

Figuring out what to upgrade from the T300 without breaking the bank goes on.

A used t-gt is a good upgrade from t300. Doesnt brake the bank and works great in GT while you wait for the PS DD -market to settle . Doesnt even matter if you buy T-GT or T-GT 2 - no noticeable difference I've been told.

What does TrueForce even do? If you had a blind driving test, could you even tell if it was on or not? It seems like massive marketing mumbo jumbo.

GEAR JOLT is functional with the THRUSTMASTER SDK (like the SCREEN TELEMETRY) and must be implemented by each Game Developers to works.

SimHub provides the best way to tailor any sort of gear change effects.... no need for some pretuned and unchangeable canned effect. And this way you can have it felt in your butt kicker.

For the short time I had a G923 to try, it felt like someone was drilling the steering shaft and trying to imitate engine vibrations for example. Noticable? Yes. Desirable? Not necessarily.

It seems they're targeting entry level users, like me
I'm considering to switch to this (but for base only) and keep using old T3PA and maybe the T300 rim. Is it possible?
T-GT is out of question, buying it = buying 2 T300, even on secondhand market still 1.5 T300 and harder to get too

I dunno about the pedals, but the T300 rim won't work on the T598 as far as I know cuz I didn't see it on the list for the quick-release adaptor.

Which is weird, as at least two of the rims I use with my T300 are shown as being compatible in the diagram and list on the upgrade page (the 599 rim and the open rim).

I guess they are the same as T-GT rim - the quick release can not be installed to the rim but one can use the separate adapter? Atleast with t-gt the reason seems to be in the construction of the wheel that doesnt allow the change of just the connector.

Hey guys, I am looking for some help understanding FFB settings. I got the T598 and day 1 I basically just assembled and played for an hour on default settings. Toward the end I turned up ffb torque and sensitivity in GT7 to 10 and that made the wheel feel pretty good.

Yesterday I spent more time testing things out and used TM’s recommended settings for GT7. I keep running into an issue where the FFB sorta “disappears” when it would otherwise be there in the default setting. The wheel makes a specific noise when this happens and it seems by design. Which setting would cause this and how should I tune it?

The other issue I would like to try to address is the wheel shake when I am not touching wheel and also not racing (in menus). I also feel like there is too much shake on straights. Is there a way to tune this?

I’m including TM’s recommended settings for reference

They explain it on their website.

Basically, the wheel API till now has been built around the limited bandwidth of early USB. There wasn't enough bandwidth to let the game fully control the wheel, so the API allows the wheel to provide pre-programmed effects that are triggered on demand by the game.

What TrueForce does is it uses the higher bandwidth of modern USB to allow the game to fully control the wheel.

It's like the difference between being given a cheap musical keyboard that has some preset instruments vs being given direct access to a loudspeaker. It's going to take significant game development work for them to make the best use of the new control that they have over the wheel, when their code has had decades of work based on triggering pre-programmed effects.

Ideally, there would also be a similar force feedback API for pedals, so pedals can have force feedback controlled by the game like the PS5 does with its controller triggers.

* ABOUT GT7 - FFB SETTINGS

- On the screen Dashboard of the T598:
  • Select "FFB3"
  • Master gain = 100%
  • Mode = E (Extreme) (or S if you want a less reactive FFB)
  • Friction = OFF (or LOW or MID if you want to decrease oscillations)
  • Boost Low = + 2 (less if you want less vibrations effects)
  • Boost Hiht = + 2 (less if you want less vibrations effects)
  • Speed = EXT (Extreme)
  • Damper = always keep at 0% (important as damper will reduce a lot FFB details)
  • Spring = the slider is automatically adjusted by the game (not necessary to change)
  • Gear Jolt = High
  • End Stop = High

- In the game (in Options / Controller Settings / Force Feedback) :
  • FFB Maximum Torque = adjust it depending on the car you are using (for more powerful cars decrease this slider / for less powerful cars increase this slider)
About FFB Maximum Torque = definitively not recommended to set it at the maximum (except for very old cars or for cars with poor powerful).

Setting to high this slider (especially for modern & powerful cars) will increase a lot the SPRING strength and will automatically destroy the feeling of all small effects.

  • FFB Sensitivity = always keep it at 1 with DD Wheels (to have a linear FFB and to avoid oscillations)
About the "FFB Sensitivity" slider in GT7: The lower this value, the more gentle steering becomes when driving in a straight line. For not DD wheel (with some mechanical and internal friction) you can increase this slider, but your FFB will not be linear. For DD wheel (with no mechanical friction) it's better to keep the slider at 1 (to have linear FFB and to limit oscillations).

NB: About the TCS (Traction Control Settings), this setting will also affect the FFB = Less TCS give better FFB details.

* ABOUT THE WHEEL SHAKE IN MENUES OF GT7
  • GT7 is using a big spring effect when you are in the menu of the game to auto recentering the wheel
  • The T598 is super smooth with no cogging
  • Accordingly (especially if you have set your settings to high - like Boost Low & High at +2% or SPEED at EXT) if you move your wheel, even just a little, it will oscillate continuously in the menu of the game.
- Tips to avoid it: just put a finger on your wheel to stop the oscillation or just increase the FRICTION Slider (on the screen Dashboard of the T598 base) to MID or to HIGH

Confirming my doubts as T-GT user with the T598 - its quick and accurate, but lacks the feel of weight and grip. The most important part of force feedback to me. The DD-hype gets the better of many people. Its like buying an electric skoda thinking its a better race car than old 911 just because it new tech. Lets hope they get it sorted out with updates so we dont need to wait for another Thrustmaster base to upgrade from T-GT.

Ps. I also wonder why T-GT d-dfb is not used anywhere else than GT. It is basically a small "buttkicker" and thus gives great immersion and information even through the rig, but I'd love to use it in other games on PS and PC..

This wheel/base just doesnt seem great with the PS5. People love it on PC.

Depends on what they are used to. Most reviewers are used to mid/premiumrange DD-wheels and they see this as a nice entry to DD, and are not able to compare it to anything. I guess Thrustmaster also is aiming this to T300/G29 market, where there are a lot more buyers than in even dd pro range..

Would it be fair saying the entry level Moza R5 got great reviews across the board? While the Thrustmaster seems very decisive?

Havent read any R5 reviews, but my logical guess is that since it was one of the first cheap DDs, everyone was just happy that it said "direct drive". Nothing is excpected from these products and still they get a lot of the shortcomings forgiven. Just because "it's a DD". Kind of a placebo effect..

Its very comparable situation to electric cars - 35k electric car is "a bargain" even though the same very car with petrol engine is just 20k...
