Time for PD to come clean.

I think that it's time PD came out with some sort of clarifying, or semi-clarifying press release about there intentions for some of the final release features that everyone and their dog are complaining about. I'm guessing some have issues with the penalty system for instance? :scared:

I actually think that if they don't they are going to end up dealing themselves some bad press as it were. This beta release of a small portion of the game, and that's what it is, has some serious issues. While it's nice to look at, once you get over the 'wow factor' of the visuals as they are, you soon realize the game has a ways to go to live up to the hype DP throws out there.

For me it was fun for a few weeks and now it's short comings are really becoming quite annoying, and not making for an enjoyable gaming experience. Which is exactly what Beta releases are for, I only hope PD is the kind of company that will listen to what the worldwide online GT communities are saying and make those changes and additions, for the most part as best they can. I somehow get the feeling that PD may be under the misguided notion that the PS3 is somehow a console built only for their game and development, hope I'm wrong, because I bought my PS3 to have fun with, not to be pissed off and aggravated with. I'll still pick up the final release for sure, but most of the crap had better be gone.

So that's my rant about GT5P. Anyone else getting a little tired of it at this point? Little bored with it?

Scoff if you want but I'm glad GRiD is coming out. Make ya want to play GT5 Final when it comes out. 👍

Remember, the fall update is fast approaching. We're all as anxious as you are to see what's in it.

C'mon, we're not even in the summer yet

Forza 3 will be out before they update

Okay, fine, we're not in the summer yet. Hmph. Time just seems like it's going by quickly to me. But I'll still be excited when the update is released in a couple of months, as I'm pretty sure you will be too. :)

 Ya sorry, my bad.....PD...hahaha..Ooops (I send out digital photography emails all day and I'm just used to using DP all the time.)

I'm not trashing the game or anything, I just think they should kinda put up something about the online format and what they are maybe going to do with the penalty system as it relates to that part of the game. I mean we are the ones going to be buying it. They know it's a problem, and I know they know we want to know they're going to fix it...👍

(Forza....? That a kinda cheese or something?) :sly:

Wow.. no offense but the constant string of these posts from various people almost sound like you think PD owes you something.. I have seen more than a few people now suffering "PS3 Rage" Being angry.. being pissed off..
This is a game guys.. If playing a Beta/Prologue/Demo of a game makes you so angry then maybe the problem is not with game.
No matter what happens with the full release there will still be people whinging that the shadows in the cockpit are not quite right, the bezel to the second left of the hoohicky is 3 shades more blue than in the real thing etc...

Yeah sure your paying for this game.. but you have paid for or will pay for so many other games as well as GT5.. if your whinging about GT5 then you'll probably whinge about the others too... and if thats the case, then I'm justified by my statement that the problem is not with the game.

If PD tries to make a game that fulfills everyones dreams it will surely fulfill none.

I for one am happy with GT5P. The only improvement i would make would be with the AI, they just aren't dynamic enough, and i think that is a universal view anyway. Not a big deal though really they are still a challenge at times. Played alot of GTR2 today though after a while off of it and it brought home the differences.

I would just love either a GTR2 for the PS3, or i would love for PD to include AI as dynamic, and tuning to a similar depth or better, including relevant info like track temperatures, engine temperatures and tyre temperatures. I am hoping this will all come in GT5, and i have high hopes that it will.

I'm not actually complaining about GT5 as a game, I simply think PD could do a great service by just addressing some of the know issues that are giving some people fits online. I mean it's online that's really where it becomes a problem. Kinda reassure the loyal followers that they're on top of it and dealing with the issues as best they can. 👍

Of course they don't have to tell us anything, and they probably won't. Will I still buy the game if they don't? You bet. I like the series. I just hope it's everything I've ever dreamed of in a driving game is all.:rolleyes: As if...hahahaha

(I would never get 'pissed' at my PS3, how could I? I mean really....)

And by the way....what is DP?????

Do you really have to know?

Anyway I do think it would be nice to hear some of what's happening to GT5, what going to happen in the update, what things are getting worked on they could even put it exclusively in the GT-TV thing and all that, and I for one am not tired of GT5P but would like to hear what's happening.

I don't think that PD is going to give us the information you want. You will have to be patient.

  • As a matter of fact, isn't it becoming a tradition for major developers to withhold information about their game in progress?
  • Isn't it up to the publisher, in this case Sony, when/which information is being released?
I know for sure that it is the publisher (Sony) that tells the developer (PD) when to release information about the update/GT5.

I still adore GT5p with all it's flaws. It's the only game I have (besides GT4 but I'm not interested in GT4 anymore) and it will be the only game I will have for a long time, I guess.

An example. I'm waiting for Ian Bell, CEO of Blimey! games to release informtion about their new projects ==> Ferrari/Falcon. Nothing so far because Ian Bell's mouth is shut by the publisher or the lack of one. I guess this is also the case with PD/Sony.

Ian Bell
We know we’ve been quiet of late, but the news will start exploding soon on both Ferrari and Project Falcon. We’d really like to be showing you guys how cool it looks and tell you all about it, but as it’s going through a top tier publisher, we are fairly tied in what we can say

Why is there only an URL of imageshack instead of the image itself?

Link doesn't work.

EDIT: link is working again. I had to change something in My GTPlanet options

Wow.. no offense but the constant string of these posts from various people almost sound like you think PD owes you something..

It's just the "I Generation" mentality - They think the world revolves around them and that EVERYONE should just give them what they want, when they want..

I see it more and more in society as a whole..

It'll be the first generation to FAIL EPIC !...

Wow.. no offense but the constant string of these posts from various people almost sound like you think PD owes you something..

That's a pretty harsh post isn't it? What's rattled your cage? The fact that you love GT5P with all its flaws doesn't give you the right to berate others... or don't you think it has any? In either case, its not your job to tell others what their opinions should be, nor to tell them how to express those opinions; nothing rude or derogatory has been posted.

The simple fact is PD do owe us something - a damned good driving sim, tweaked and polished to near perfection. ;) Thinking we are owed something when we are going to cough up hard earned cash is not unreasonable is it? Using feedback from the buying public is exactly how all developers help finalize their releases and calling people for expressing opinions that differ from yours is bordering on ideological fascism.

GT5P is far from a polished product and has quite a few irritating features that need serious attention - its our job as fans of the series and as the buyer market that will be purchasing GT5 when it comes out to draw attention to the things we think need fixing. Its expected and the last thing a developer wants is silence in place of decent feedback; its not moaning, its part of the development process.

Do we need another thread about this?

I get it already, people are unhappy with online and want it fixed sooner than the fall update, or at a minimum want PD to give them something.

I have heard it numerous times by now. Maybe if we create a few more threads about it something will actually happen.

It's just the "I Generation" mentality - They think the world revolves around them and that EVERYONE should just give them what they want, when they want..

Care to elaborate sport? If you're referring to me personally, perhaps you'd be best served if you knew me personally before posting blanket opinions as to my 'mentality'.

Never once in my post did I say that PD 'owes' me or anyone anything.

I quote :

PD does not have to do diddly - PD can do whatever the hell PD wants to do - If you don't like it - Don't buy the game - it's as simple as that..

They don't "Have To" come with any press release or anything regarding the final game.. Don't like it, don't buy it...

Elaborated enough or should I go on ?

Once again, it's a suggestion, not once there does it say anything about PD being obligated or in anyway that they 'have to' do anything.

Is that clear now? It should be....👍

Nothing wrong with encouraging PD communicate more to help manage expectations, keep us buzzing, and just generally build a community around a fantastic game that inspires a very loyal following.

*Expecting* this is another issue altogether, but the idea is still a good one.

Woot, yet another whine thread. Can one of the complainers please step forward and give me a straight answer why they feel that they have been misled? I have put forward numerous arguments now and not one of the people complaining has challenged them. Thus, I came to the conclusion a while ago that the whining is completely unfounded and people are just complaining for complaining's sake.

For the last time, I'm going to repeat what I've said several times before.

Polyphony Digital never ever said this was anymore than a "Prologue - an introduction" to Gran Turismo 5, a game still to be finished. No where did they say that any of the features of Prologue would be representative of the quality of the final product or that they were not still working on many aspects of the game.
Although not officially called this by anyone at PD or Sony, this is essentially a public alpha test of GT5. I call it this because demos and beta tests are for games that are almost or already finished, which GT5 is not. Its not really an alpha test either because thats a test done in house, so I suppose its not really got a name, but Public Alpha test says it all I think.

You people had plenty of time to research the nature of Prologue and to find out the quality of the features, etc.

So, in conclusion, complaining is what gets things fixed and its exactly what PD is looking for in order to perfect the features of GT5. However, because of the nature of Prologue, PD has not "lost its sense of direction", "concentrated on the wrong things" and it certainly does not owe anyone anything. They dont need to clarify anything in my opinion.
/rant

Thats the last time.....seriously.

ding ding ding!!! Completely agree that it's more beneficial for PD to hear about things that aren't working, instead of people "adoring" a work in progress...It's what will drive PD to make a better final product.

But do we need a new thread about it every week?

No one will say that it is perfect. In fact, I think everyone wants a more user-friendly online setup. I will be the first to say so.

However, I do not like seeing "Let's See if PD is really paying attention," "Dear Polyphony Digital:" "Petition to open a chain of communication between fans and PD," and "Time for PD to Come Clean" threads every week.

I think our income tax system is broken in the US, but I don't start a new thread about it every week. I discuss it in already existing threads that are devoted toward it.

I would just love either a GTR2 for the PS3
Oh yes, that'd be great 👍 i play GTR2 quite often, and as you say, the ai is brilliant

To be honest, i can't see a Gran Turismo game ever featuring ai anywhere near as good if PD haven't managed it by now. Still, online play is
the thing now, so i don't suppose it's a massive issue anymore

I have my doubts that damage will make an appearance too. The GT series is 10 years old, and all of a sudden it's going to feature damage?

I'll believe it when i see it

Despite these things, i still very much enjoy the GT experience. The feel is the best on console or pc, imo :D

I'm just glad PD gave me (us) something to hold us over until GT5 is released. Be happy people, be thankful for what you have. No one is there with a gun to your head telling you to buy or put the game into your machine. I mean really, what else is there out for the PS3 as far as a driving sims goes? GRID, Need for Speed Pro Street? Although those games do have a place in the gaming world, they will never compare to the Gran Turismo franchise. 👍

I see it more and more in society as a whole..

It'll be the first generation to FAIL EPIC !...

That's what the Greatest Generation said in the 50s and 60s about the Baby Boomers. I think it's more that young people throughout history have thought that the world revolves around them.

think of how hard it is to come up with a penalty/damage system that would actually please everyone? at least there is one in place and somewhat keeps people honest online. cant tell you how many times people have tried to ram me from behind going into a turn only to turn invisible and fly off the track.

having damage would fix some problems and open others, theres just too many variables to make everyone happy. the only way they could make it work is if everyone drove clean, but that will never happen. *The few will always ruin it for the many*

Regarding online races; I think by the time Home is implemeted (I heard open beta by this fall), and in game xmb becomes a reality (anytime soon), the online races will be able to accomodate private races and voice chat and whatever else that will make it more enjoyable. Hopefully by Fall, damage will be introduced and I'm sure there will be other updates and improvement to the game. But I don't think that GT5P will be anymore than what it is right now. I'm sure as we inch closer to GT5 release, there will be press releases form Sony and Polyphony Digital regarding the game.
I've been playing this game (almost daily) since March of this year and believe it or not, there's still facet of this game that keeps me entertain. If you haven't already join a time trial race league where every week or forthnight new events are posted. It's quite rewarding to see your name on the board (especially when you made the Top 10 list). If you haven't already, get yourself a good, decent steering wheel because that will take the game to another level.
Like everyone else I have my list of complaints but maybe because I can appreciate the work and effort Kazunori Yamauchi and his team at PD has put into this game (and the past GTs) that I hate making demands that will only suit my needs. In the end I think, GT5 will not be any different form the other GT games: it's an aesthetic choice that PD has made.
