um...I think maybe both?

lol

Chris, how much have you used manual transmission? I don't think it's likely to help you get silver in a TT if you only use it once in a blue moon..it really needs to be something you're comfortable with. I don't think there's very many TTs where AT is an advantage really...you can pretty much always do at least as well with MT so there isn't much point switching back and forth once you're used to it, but there's also not much point using it in a TT if you aren't fully comfortable with it.
I have been using MT for only 4-5 months, maybe I need more experience, like at least 2-3 more years of practice to fully understand all the tricks and trail braking. Like Glen said, I need to watch how I use the throttle and not oversteer/understeer anywhere on the track. And no, I think I'm gonna pass on the ghosts. They are distracting because I'll have to keep my eye on it instead of paying attention to the road. Thank you for that post Glen, I'll take every step of advice, and write notes down. And copy notes from Tidgney's guides as well.

Use your own ghost Chris, ignore Tidgneys videos as just focus on putting laps in that are controlled and consistent.

Your pace is quite a bit off so you need to start to build up to good pace it's something you learn and practice.

Use a ghost but make it your own and watch where you brake and then turn it off for a lap (up on the dpad) and pick markers to brake at, then compare that to your ghost laps etc.

You have to remember that driving is fast is a particular skill and you only get better and safer understanding how to use a car and take a corner.

You'll get there but it takes times and starting to understand what is going on in any given moment.

1.49.963 (Tcs2/cs strong) 🎮 BMW Dragon Tail

Finally I found my balls and gained a moment of peace 😎
A close one but mission accomplished ✌️
Bravo Jason, I saw your new PB while I was online and I'm really happy for you! You completely deserve these awesome score and ranking.

I know how tricky is this achievement and how complicated is this final sector. I'm still 0.088 off the promise land, despite many many efforts in the past few days.

Hello Chris,

I have been watching this last couple of posts with interest here. I am going to, ever so slightly, contradict newmedia_dev. I think he will see why...

Watch Tidgney's ghost at Dragon Trail. The first corner after the start line. Pay particular attention to his turn in point, braking, brake release, coasting and throttle on timing and the rate of throttle he applies. This one corner is the perfect example of how to take a slow corner quickly

I have practised, just this corner, many many times chasing Tidgney. Without even attempting a full lap! After a little while it begins to "click". I am now leaving this corner at the same speed and time as Tidgney! There is barely a coat of paint between us as we go under the bridge. The rest of my lap goes to hell in a hand basket after that but that is another story!

Good luck Chris. Let us all know how you get on with that first corner.

As for the other part the story...

Despite many many laps and many many red laps, I think I am going to throw in the towel at Dragon Trail in the BMW. I have squeezed, teased, danced, caressed and cajoled the Beemer to a 1:50:162. I really do feel that is my ceiling here. I just cannot get that last, big, right hander to work for me.

What a delightful struggle it was though!

Best regards to all here and my gentlest apologies to newmedia_dev.

Ian.

Now I had a bottle of Ouzo around here somewhere?.......

Ladies and gentlemen, this is what the famous british "fighting spirit" became.... :dopey:
Apparently, this spirit crossed the French Channel

Come on Ian, we all know you can do better ! Don't let that damned last right turn ruins your reputation.
Shave those ugly 0.162 and we'll celebrate with a beer  (or two).

ATTACK!!!

Hi guys,

just a quick note to those of you who use my gtplanet plug-in: I am currently doing some maintenance on my server, so the plug-in not working is not your fault, it's mine ;)

I will let you know when it should work again.

Edit: works again for now, but there will still be some outages over the weekend.
Alright, should work again, otherwise please let me know. I have switched internet providers and the new one is not supporting IPv4 anymore so I had to change the way routing and DNS resolution works. BTW if this is unintelligible gibberish to you, never mind, that's perfectly normal ;)

Edit: it stopped working again 😔, I need to take a closer look later tonight. I won't post any status updates anymore so as not to spam the thread. Just know that I'm (usually) aware if there's a problem, and I'm working on it ...

Hi friendos!

Bit of a rubbish week has ended on a high; a great weekend with the lads in the Welsh mountains in absolutely stunning weather has got me smiling again. A quick pitstop in the M3 at DTG before I’m off on my travels again tomorrow;

I’m still not a fan, I think sports hard tyres are really the culprit and it’s such a shame because in real life this car is a real doll. I managed to tie one lap together that was nice and that’s enough from me, I probably won’t revisit. Every so often it was delightful with mid corner balance of brakes, throttle and weight distribution but too often the car would spin uncontrollably at just about any speed and for seemingly no reason. If the M3 drove like that in real life, nobody would ever buy one..

I do not know either and not top 10 either so I can not test, but @EbrahimX7 can share how to actually do save replay for yourself for later but not share a ghost on leaderboard?
So if you reatart your lap after your fastest lap without exiting track, your ghost/replay gets hidden from public. Then after starting a new lap wait for the 3 2 1 timer drive for few seconds then exit, click save best lap replay. Thats it 👍 now you can download your own fastest ghost or share for later in showcase

The Aston did surprise me - I thought it would drive like the Valkyrie TT (on Redbull Ring?) a while back but this did feel a lot nicer to drive. Interlagos is never my best track as I cannot really get on top of the 2nd sector - there are just so much skills involved in extracting those extra time especially in this high powered car. Nevertheless I think I did okay-ish on my lap of 1:26.8, maybe 1-2/10th in sector 1 but not much else!

I know it is still early days into this TT, but at least I am holding onto the top spot in my friends list by the slimmest of margins. @Dolph Drago @Gomario JSP @A_Higher_Place @Vule . Won't be surprised if I find myself in 5th the same time tomorrow

very close AGAIN already

The Aston is realy a weird kind of combo, first real session i did the 26.8, this morning tried again, fastest 26.892 but binned a bunch of real promising laps.

I have a few problems here......:lol::lol:

Sector 1..... that bump at the 100 board is very annoying , making braking and entry for T1 very inconsistent kills the Senna curves like 5/10 times

Braking for T4.... it's a fairly straight forward corner but i have somuch trouble under braking there, i'm mowing lawn on the right,
it's kind of bigger than i hink it is on track??
Overshoot it or either to soon on the brakes, ( maby because of the different exitspeed from Senna's? )

Midsection i'm ok with, it's diffiult getting it rotated but doable, but that second gear is killing there.

Then when you finally have a descent lap you still have to tackle T12, what a nightmare on exit in 2nd, and 3th is to slow....

But very nice to see that leaderboard again, you guys are not letting slip any TT :lol:

Wow man, you're on a super roll. Nice one, @AdxRE !

Interlagos-Vulcan-10laps-1.jpg

First 10 laps stint at Interlagos. Need to learn (and not forgot from one lap to the next) my braking points.

And I think I'll use some TC, this car needs very soft throttle inputs when exiting a turn.

In silver now, but good margin for improvement, and except the rear that wants to kill me each time I exit a turn, this car is rather pleasant to drive. infield of Interlagos is not my forte, but it is an opportunity to learn.

And need to pull the curtain when the sun is messing with me and the screen, was difficult to see clearly some parts of the track (one red lap because of that).

If there is sun don't go for wet tyres (or anything else...)! 🤣 Sorry for not being sorry. 😁 Do you use VR all the time now? 😎

This Vulcan is really hard to me. There are two things that I cannot get consistently by now.
One being the sudden and unexpected power oversteer. Unexpected meaning that I does not come every time (other than the final left hander of the Senna esses, where it's expected and regular).
The other is the sudden front lock under breaking. Again, I know there is a change it's coming, but cannot really understand why here and there it is coming, and therefore don't know how to adjust to avoid it.

By now, and probably forever, I'll stay with this

Went back to the M3 last night and couldn't improve my time, best I could get was 1:49.7** and I was dropped down to position 200 😢

Tried again tonight but can't even get into the 49s at all, best was 1:50.3** I was understeering and snap oversteering so much, the car felt horrible.

I noticed that the little red steering dot was going right to the edges with the smallest of inputs, like it was over sensitive but the sensitivity was set to -2, played round with so many different settings, ABS, TC, ASM, CSA, all sensitivity / feedback and just could not get smooth steering input at all.

I will probably have one last try on Wednesday with the wheel before the next AMG VC round seens as I am now in 212th position, that's thanks to some people on this forum not knowing when to stop *cough @Dan_Tes *cough 😂

Well, apparently I forgot to buy this one at the UCD when it was added to the game... (delete UCD please, nonsense pointless idea). And it’s not on sale when used for an active time trial. Brilliant. :dunce:

No livery, no passion! Thankfully got this out of the way in only 95 kms (the other 222 was from a league race), by far the least I’ve driven in any TT so far, all 113 considered. So, there’s that at least. Yay! :D

First snow attempt tomorrow.

This was another 1:05.6 S2 split, but this time I managed to drive it home. Still, S3 continues to be my Achilles heel, I am losing a lot of pace accelerating out of T12 compared to other guys' replays I've watched. This could have been a low 1:26.7 or even a high 1:26.6. But - I'm not complaining.

My friends board currently looks a bit too good to be true 🤣

I mean P 193 is absolutely nothing to scoff at, but usually by this time there's a bunch of you aliens in the top 100. Perhaps the GTP royalty is still distracted by the M3 or playing in the snow at Lake Louise ;) ... either way, I'll enjoy it while it lasts.

Made another visit to Gardens in the M3. Two nights ago I tied my previous best down to the thousandth. Annoyingly, I was well off my best after two sectors but had the best sector 3 of my life. It took roughly 100 miles tonight to finally top that time. I'm into the 49.0's, but I really want that 48. I threw away at least two of them; one exiting the chicane and the other understeering off into the grass on the final turn. :ouch:

@KK78...

@Ian JB I think you win this time 🍻

Blimey! That was close 😳

As above, I might just get one crack at this before the end. Maybe... Just maybe.... :)

Very best regards to all here.

Slow down mate, you are getting to fast lately
Nice time! and nice livery!

I tried for a good amount of laps this morning but almost threw my controller around the livingroom, somuch potential but i just could not get that grippy feeling, always sideways somewhere in the lap, had one 1:05.621 split but got graciously sideways on the exit.....
so big frustration this morning, i just can't get this car to work, not my forte i guess :lol::lol:

Good job mate, you are placing some real competitive times lately!

Hello fellow time-attackers,

yesterday I went for a third and last stint with the M3 at gardens as I was just outside gold zone. So far I went just 10 laps like a french driver here who "grilled" the @Evilmuffin lately... This time I just let it flow and after 20 laps I reached my old best time, optimum around 1:50:6xx.

I must admit that I never test all the available assists in the game but I knew yesterday I had to change something to reach my goal. So I went with TSC1 and CSA strong and gained some confidence after a few laps. Laps 31 and 32 brought new personal best and a new optimum at 1:50:4xx.

Then it finally came all together and I managed THE lap!
1000005863.jpg

Lap No. 33 was my new optimum 1:50:293 and at least for a few hours I was among the fastest 2.000 drivers in the world! This felt and still feels awesome! It is a rare occasion to show some of you my back as I am in front of you. So, this one is for you: 😁
1000005862.jpg
(It is not white but "Hockenheim silver" by BMW - unfortunately the only way to get some Hockenheim in GT7...)

Thanks to this great community yesterday I did learn something and had also fun. Why can't it always be like this?!? 🤔

Greetings, see ya on track/leaderboard!

I know exactly what you mean, buddy!
I've also tried to enter the 1:49 since few days (and +/- 700kms) ... but nothing came except a huge number of laps in the 1:50: 2's and 3's.

Really dunno if I'll have time and motivation to come back before the end.
Huge kudos to all in the community here. The help and encouragement offered is brilliant. I for one have seen massive gains just by listening and watching. Thank you. All of you!
I 100% second this message.
Merci to you Ian :)
