Woo hoo! Got my first silver!
I know it's on the "easiest" TT we've had, but I'll take it!
Hope the Aliens don't go much faster as only sneaked in by a few hundredths! šŸ˜‚
Right there with you - on for my first gold (for now).

Iā€™m more one for the consistent long runs than the flat out pace, so even an ā€œeasyā€ TT is a challenge.

I have safely qualified for gold but still obsessed with trying to nail a 1 in a 1000 exit on that last turn to find another half of second.

I thought that if I lose the car, and come in sideways, and by some fluke still have traction and some momentum in the right direction... I can fluke off a really good lap.lol...... I don't drive manual so that last corner is tough as I can't shift from 1st to 3rd to avoid overspin.

With TSC and ASM off it is really tough to nail that last corner in automatic, as the car just wants to oversteer bad on the final turn. And if does not snap oversteer, it wants to understeer.

I know the WRX is clearly the Meta, but it is ill suited to that last turn coming off the uphill..
So, having myself convinced I could not do the last turn in the WRX without TSC1, I kept doing laps and laps..... (and tried other cars at TSC 0). I got to 57.2 in the WRX but could not overcome T1. With TSC1 trying to sling the car through T1 was awful. It felt like turning a boat, So, I set TSC to 0 and the car felt lighter and looser and I managed to control the throttle coming out of the last turn and hit a 56.8. I don't think I need any lower.

Am posting this for those like me who are driving in automatic and are struggling with traction on the last turn and are using assists. I am really not sure if the loss on T1 and some on T2 while using TSC can make up for the extra traction in the last turn. It certainly didn't work for me. TSC1 on the WRX feels like what I would imagine TSC 4 or something feeling like... it is so restrictive...(imo).

I suppose you could start on TSC0 and set to 1 approaching the last turn, but there is a lot going on there in a short time period.

Can I ask why the perseverance with automatic? It is pretty much always slower, so just holding you back. Just curious if there is some specific reason, or just what you are used to.

I have very little experience with a standard. Most helping friends on farms. I am over 60 so that makes it hard to be competent in racing, and I find there is enough going on for me to keep up with while racing. I did give it a go in GTSport for a while, but as soon as I got in a mess like slower traffic or out of position I was messed up as to what to do, because no "standard" instincts kicked in.... cause I don't have any...lol

Also, for what I want out of the game I am good with auto. I enjoy qualifying trials and racing GR4 and no matter where I start if I have a mess up I am fine dropping back and just making sure I don't mess anyone up.

Sorry for the long answer but success for me is having fun and not messing anyone up and having a rep as a clean driver.
I'll race hard to keep or advance my position, but I'll be the first to concede when it looks like one of us needs to back out. Finishing 4th versus 5th (or 12th..!!) is "who cares" for me.

That is the mentality i like! Think i am pretty similar; started with GT1 way back in the 90's and only started to become really competitive in GTS when i joined the World Series a few years ago and had to get a whole lot better. To old to learn driving manually, though i did try for a while. Also still use TCS most times....

Made it to high B in GTS and currently high C and almost back in B again with a few wins under my belts, and learned that you can be competitive driving automatic, except for races where fuel economy is very important.
It is just a matter if testing the cars till you find a manufacturer that has good gearing for an automatic. Currently using the Mustangs, and they do quite well with automatic gears.

In time trail i got one gold till now (likely a second on the 19th) and a bunch of Silvers so I am not doing that bad, i think.
I'm a few seconds slower that the top ten drivers but can live with that. My fun is in competing with my friends and get as high in the order as possible.

I try to race smart, not take big risks in overtaking and if another driver is much faster i will not fight him, it is just a waste of time for us both. And if there is a dirty driver i just try to avoid. I usually finish okay in races because i focus on keeping the car on track. Win most positions because others mess up, and not by overtaking.

Most important is to have fun and have good clean competition!

56.6 after like 10 laps...

Yeah, gold in this is stupidly easy. I'll be aiming for a time between 55.9 - 56.2. Need to watch the top 1 laptime and use his ghost.

Turn 4 and the hairpin are the tricky ones, especially the hairpin where the car wiggles around so much when braking. Turn 1 isn't that hard to nail consistently.

Please don't apologise for the long answer! Thank you for taking the time to answer it directly and take it as intended :) Kudos to you on the clean racing goals - I can appreciate that. Good luck with the rest of the TT šŸ‘

As for my lap... oh man a 55 is so close! I've got the number 1 ghost and I can't even cross the line as fast as them, losing at least half a car length before the first corner. I guess the wide line I take on a first lap still isn't optimal. Pleased to note that I'm often within a tenth in the first sector though. Does mean I'm losing most of it in the final corner... so I guess I really don't have the right line there!

Oh, yeah. This morning, I'm trying the TT with all of my Gr.4 cars. I can get a gold lap with about half of them.
You definitely don't need AWD to get there.
I'd like to see one of the streamers who are a lot better than me, make an attempt at getting gold laps in every one of the Gr.4 cars.
I'm pretty sure it could be done.
@Mistah_MCA could pull it off. :D
Iā€™ve tried 12 and got gold in all of them. The Slophy is the only one so far that I couldnā€™t get under 57. Which ones did you struggle with? Iā€™ll try those next.

Edit: 8 left and still gold in everything. Add the Veyron and the 4C to the list of golds that are slower than 57 seconds.

Tidgney recently did a video of him racing in Auto. He did not lose very much time at all compared to him doing the same track in manual. It varies depending on track I suppose. (This was the last RBR so that video was post most recent physics update)

Another video I watched (iirc it was Kirith-kart) suggested there is some data that indicates the game simulates heavy engine breaking for auto trans, almost as much as if you were trail breaking slightly in a manual. (This was from a few months ago so may be different due to updates)

Veyron was definitely the worst one for me. You just have to start your braking and turning much sooner than the others.
I only tried one lap, then changed cars. :yuck:
