Hey guys, I got a question. I'm new to TT and the latest TT is only my third one.

I've done Mission X and the Honda before and barely managed to get bronze on those two, but the new Gr. 4 race makes me crazy as I dont' even get bronze. Regardless of what car I use I couldn't get any faster than 2:17:700, although I know that track better than the two before. I might be an average driver but I'm relatively certain that I do a very solid drive here without any real glitches.

I assume you guys all drive manual without any assistance systems apart from ABS. I use automatic shifting and braking, might that be the reason for my bad lap times - or am I just a lot worse at driving than I thought? ;)
If you're struggling, check the leaderboards and see what car the top times are using. In this case, it's the Lamborghini Huarcan Gr4 car. Use that as it's the strongest car here and go from there. Of course, it's not the only car that can do well but when 95% of the top times are using one car, we call that a clue.

Second, do your best to remove automatic braking. That is killing your times for sure.

Using AT is probably not helping, but by how much is impossible to quantify. There are many-a-quick drivers out there that use AT, so IMO I wouldn't worry about that at this point. Disable that auto braking and practice practice practice!

First laps in the new Gr4 event - tried a few non-meta cars. NSX and Jag have some promise, as does the Nissan GTR. Cayman is awesome, but needs another 20bhp!

First test in Lake Maggiore :
one of my favorite circuits on GTS where I did all my Gr4, Gr3, Gr2 cars which I then published.
And for a first try I am not dissatisfied. I tried 3 Gr4s: the Huracan, the 458 Italia and the G70.
It was very hard with the Huracan, especially when braking. I had the impression that the behind wanted to go to the front !!! And after several laps it was impossible for me to go below 2'06'5xx. 🤮🤮
It was the turn of the Ferrari Italia. A car with extraordinary noise and really very interesting on this track, I was able to improve my time to 2'06'2xx. A little more stable than the Lamborghini when braking but loss of grip when applying the throttle when exiting corners. But I'll have to try again because it's really very easy to handle. 😍😍
And then it was the turn of the G70. And then finally I was able to drive seriously. Stable car when braking and exiting corners, less nervous than the Ferrari but just as fast. I was able to improve my time to 2'05'864 with imperfections.

And Santa Claus came early with this lovely gift !!! Can’t wait for tomorrow so I can test it !!!! 😍😍😍

You've beaten me by a tiny margin somehow. I won't stand for this.

Crap, my ps5 got delayed and won't be here at my home until Monday. I was hoping to do some TT grinding this weekend, but that got snowballed. I swear, I can't have anything on time. And it's gonna be raining the first part of next week. I hope it doesn't get wet. I paid a lot of money for this. I guess I'll have to skip Maggiore this time, I thought my ps5 would come today. Sigh.

I would not advice this car (to someone who is struggling), it is the best performing maybe, but far from the easiest to drive
Using AT is probably not helping
As you say, plenty of people use AT and get good results. Sure MT would be better, but if @Meltac is currently using auto-braking, maybe MT is a too big step forward.

Agree.

Test different cars, and go for the one you are the most comfortable with. It will maybe not the fastest but it will be the easiest to drive for you. Perfect to gain confidence.

Agree.

I drove many years on controller in AT mode and got "some" gold rewards with.
Now, driving in MT is much more fun, and faster of course, but it won't help anyone to jump from 2:17 to 2:08.

To improve your scores:
  • practice: the circuit experience,
  • practice: the licence tests on this track,
  • practice: the missions on that track,
  • practice: the TT, again, and again, and again...

and

  • select the perfect livery....

Morning,

Well that Huracan is definitely a lot faster then the G70 but it's on a knifes edge on a a lot of point on track.
I did become a bit familiar with the braking but it's just more difficult 😄
Sector 3 is the hardest of all for me, I binned tomany promising laps there 😱🤣🤣
A sub 2:05 is definitely in the books but just have to figure out the last part, fastest backstraight split was 1:05.818 🫣 and I think my PB lap was a 1:06.040

But the Mooohhly track Bully is indeed faster 🤣

@half_sourly congrats on that lap!, very nice!, I tried but failed today....🤣🤣

Yess, therefore the G70 exists. It's for people like me who can't control the Lambo. It doesn't oversteer, it doesn't understeer, it just steers. :-)

👍

Two administrative points if I may.

Firstly, I plan to do an end of year 'user access audit' for the community scoreboards. There is no harm in someone who no longer does TTs, or is no longer active on gtplanet, being on the scoreboards, but I'd rather keep it to people who are actually on gtplanet to see the results. If you are okay with this, do a thumbs up, or a tear-in-the-eye if you are not. I'll go with the majority view.

The plan is to go through the 177 current members and check if they are still active on gtplanet.
  • Where a user has not logged on for >6 months, I will remove them.
  • Where a user has not logged on for >1 but <6 months OR I can't see when a they last logged on (not all profiles show that for some reason) AND they've not done TTs recently, I will send them a direct message to ask if they want to remain on the scoreboards.
  • Where a user's name does not show on search, I've asked for advice over here on if and how I can find out if they are still active.
Secondly, there have been two instances recently where people asked to be added to the scoreboards and then a few weeks later asked to be removed again. It takes a fair bit of time to add someone; less to take them off, but still more work than you might think. I am therefore going to add a condition that once someone joins, they agree to staying on the scoreboards for at least 12 months. Since you can only do one reaction, I'll assume this is okay, but leave a note here or send me a direct message if you object to this approach. Again I'll go with the majority view.

Hi guys (and....)

Another joyful morning on the shores of Lago Maggiore (prounouce with the Italian accent^^) with my lovely Italian cow.

I totaly agree with the great philosopher @Gomario JSP about the Huracan:
it's on a knifes edge on a a lot of point on track.

But it's a fantastic machine and don't get me wrong, the improvement is really tiny (-0.016) but....

My splits aren't really important at this point, but worth to mention I've lost 0.4 on the last sector compared to my usual scores. Otherwise, a 2:05.4xx was on the table.

Here is a typical session I had this morning:

1733570305913.png

Knowing that my very best S1 is 35.0xx, and my very best S3 is 27.9xx, I can legitimately have some regrets but also some reasonable hopes for the future.

Pro tip: don't listen to optimals, they always distract you...

With some patience, and dedication, I really hope to join the rest of the herd:

Woooow so glad you'll join the herd for the Holy Cow party, my friend!!
Some others cows are a little bit down in the leaderboard (you know, most of them are a bit shy^^).

To get the glow, follow the cow!

Funny how one man's meat might be another man's poison. 😅

I just can't find my way with the LamCOWghirni, even though is the meta car for this TT. 🙃

Funnier than that I was able to consistently beat the Lago Maggiore Human Comedy race sometime ago with MR cars, and they are not known by they very friendly braking behaviour. But in this TT I just can't. Go figure. 🤔

Congratulations my friend on your well deserved top 1000 score! 😎

Happy lapping folks!

Hey guys, huge thanks for all your replies - I honestly wouldn't have expected such a positive reaction on a TT newbie's post :P
Automatic shifting can be worse compared to manual shifting depending on the car, but not to such a degree.
So back to the basics, whatever you are doing, it seems you are doing it worse than everyone else.
Haha, yeah probably I'm driving much worse than everybody else ;) But what confuses me: On the latest Honda TT it took me only one single lap to get into bronze, and on the Mission X it took me two laps. But on the current Gr. 4 where everyone says it's easy I don't even manage to get there after like 20 or 30 laps with about 8 different cars, on a track that I know better than the other mentioned two tracks... so, what is supposed to be so much easier here on this one?
Are you driving cars from your garage or are they rental from the TT? If they are yours, check what tyres are equipped in.

Automatic shifting can be a disadvantage but as mentioned before, not to such degree. Automatic braking though will indeed slow you down big time.
Tried both, garage and rental. Racing tires always equipped. But I'm happy that you say I could improve lap times by disabling auto braking while keeping AT for the moment.
Auto driver here but only shifting. Bronze is very easy in the new TT. If you have some sort of auto braking, go manual braking.
Thank, yes I'll try that.
Others have already mentioned the assists but I will give a different approach to improving your times. Most people use ghosts to chase. The ghost helps you focus on the fastest track line, when to brake and when to accelerate. But, when your performance is massively behind that of the leaderboard it does not help to chase their ghosts. Instead, navigate over to showcase, then use content search to find a replay to use. [...]
Wow, great hint - didn't know that feature!

Yes, I've seen that almost everyone seems to be using the Huracan but for me it's awful to drive, so much oversteering and instable. Guess my driving skills just don't match that car (yet) ;)
If you're struggling, check the leaderboards and see what car the top times are using. In this case, it's the Lamborghini Huarcan Gr4 car. Use that as it's the strongest car here and go from there. Yep understood - auto braking will be removed :)

Thank you very much @skydragon49 I'm sure you'll find your glow and your cow on this TT :)

True, the Bull isn't the most friendly to handle, but it's definitely the fastest here. Can't explain how I managed to tame her very quickly, but I did.

Speaking of glow and cow, my leaderboard have been nicely redesigned during lunch time and now, it's really look like a real herd:

1733581367126.png

So the G70, how do we feel now?:lol:

You might also notice my "little" new improvement (-0.150) at 2:05.541 #HolyCow :sly: 🐮 🐄

1733582923867.png

On this lap, I left "some" tenths here (S1) and there (S4), so it's still possible to improve this score... But as @Lomic would say, I hope it holds till the end... ;)

As usual optimals are always optimistic, so better not to listen to them...

Split on the backstraight was 1:05.715 😱 but I definitely stuffed up the final sector 🤣🤣
It's in there for sure!

Little achievement check @ 2:04.922
But satisfied h*ll naaah! 🤣🤣

Woooow, what an incredible score!!!

Side note: I know that 1:05.715 is really impressive (meaning like 35.0xx on S1 and 30.7xx on S2). That's really really FAST!!

No need to say that your livery is absolutely Moooohhlly Lovely ♥♥♥

Had a couple of hours this morning while the family were asleep. First off, back to Grand Valley - took a few laps to recalibrate but made some small progress with just under a tenth found. Optimal is a 2:13.68 but I don't have the patience to hunt for it, so this lap might be it here.

1733591605924.jpeg

Next to hop on the plane and nip over to Italy in the Gr4 cars. Tried a few other cars (Mustang and Mercedes) before switching back to the Jaaaaaaag... so much time to be won and lost in that last corner, and unfortunately on my best lap it was lost and not won! There's a 2:05.5 in that car though.
1733591702198.jpeg

Having flogged seemingly slower cars around the track so far, I moved to the Genesis (sporting a V8 Supercars livery from our last year living in Oz) .... 4 laps later and I've beaten the Jag and have an optimal of 2:05.1! Looking forward to the next session.

I'm back guys!! (... even if you haven't missed me, still... I'm back!)

Been quite busy for the last few weeks here, between work, shopping, cruising... even my laptop decided to die on me :irked:.
Oh well, but still I've managed to find some time (not much as usual) to do some Time Trialing in between all of those things.

So, on with the medal count:
Gran Turismo™ 7_20241206151715.jpg

The acceleration on this thing is pretty brutal, so much torque on those lower gears to deal with... but once you get used to it, it's not that bad, I actually enjoyed driving this Mission X.
But I definitely had to use TCS 1 and CSA Weak for this one.
Kinda felt like I was driving one of those insane electric VGT with loads of understeer.
I wasn't all that far away from Gold, but just couldn't improve my time any further, so Silver it is.

Fortunately, there's the beautiful S2000:
Gran Turismo™ 7_20241206151914.jpg

Some 15 laps in, this is where I am.
Now I'm gonna watch some video guides and see what I'm doing wrong and where to improve.
Really like this car and the way it handles 😍 after all, Honda isn't all about FWD cars!

----------------------------------
PS: I'm still building up the courage to even try the Nurburgring TT... don't even know if I want to spend time with it, probably just go for a very safe, slow, Bronze and that's it.

On the other hand, I'm definitely interested in that Gr.4 TT! Last time we had a TT with a Gr.4 car I did pretty good (for my standards) and scored a Gold.
We'll see what happens this time around... looks like a lot of you guys already caught the "Mad Cow" fever!
