The Nurburgring TT is officially the most stressful thing I've done in ages. I ran a few laps last night, firstly a couple in the Genesis X (because the top time on my friends list is an 8:11 in that car) and then in the BRZ.

I found the Genesis too tail happy and lost a lot of time down to that - best I managed was 8:31 after two laps and a couple of restarts.

I had much more confidence with the BRZ. It sticks to the road like mad, so I was able to throw it around much harder through the twisty stuff. Still, I made numerous mistakes and had to restart many times. I got my time down to 1:28.5XX and threw away multiple laps where I was 1+ seconds ahead of my ghost, but in the end I quit for the night after about 45 mins and 5 completed laps feeling frustrated and annoyed at my inconsistency and lack of progression. Still can't manage a silver time, which is the most frustrating part! :(

I'll have one more bash at it tonight, but there's a strong chance I'll settle for silver bronze in this one - which will make it one of the lowest earners versus time invested so far...

EDIT: corrected - BRONZE not SILVER! :(

If it is any conciliation, on Saturday I did 250 miles or so and completed zero laps...

There was some frustration but I took many deep breaths and just saw it as a learning session.

Best I can do at Autopolis with dualsense is a 1:24.650, with an optimal time of 1:24.4xx.

Out of frustration tonight I turned TC0 back to TC3 for a few laps. Instantly noticed I was getting better rotation through the corners, able to hold it flat out and take more risks in more places without going off track. I didn’t beat my record but my averages came down so I was doing consistent 1:24.xxx laps instead of my usual 25/26.

I thought TC was always going to slow the lap down in exchange for less spinning off. So what’s the consensus, TC on or off for this one?

I used Tc 1. I felt like being on the throttle at the apex sometimes upsets this car anyway, so TC is gonna slow you down instead of crashing out, but mid corner coasting and trusting the downforce keeps it stable and uncovers pace. But then again I spent a lot of time in walls or facing backwards....
I'm at TC2 (and overall suck at this TT). As already said TC slows you down but make the car more drivable.
Just put these two features on a two plate scale and see what works best for you.
I myself know that lowering TC may give me better results in specific turns, but make it close to impossibile to nail a full lap, while TC2 give me confidence.

Also take a look at the gears, using higher gears may be beneficial and reduce the importance of the TC quantity needed

I am definitely not as zen as ou are 😅
I find it hard to be patient with this game after my working day - it takes most of my patience to get through the daily slog, so having this challenge at the very end of the day doesn't always pay for me... :D

I was supposed to be done with the Ring, but... I just wanted to see if I can be as competitive with a race car as with a road car. The short answer is no.

The long answer is that today I tried almost the other half of GT3 cars that I didn't last week. Again, there are many competitive cars for this. I think I did under 8:20 in all of the ones that I tried today. The Supra GR might be the ultimate fastest for me, but too tricky to get a good lap in. GT-R '18 and Genesis were among the fastest today, but the AMGs won me over. Both the '16 and '20 models were fast on the first try already. Spent more time with the new model and got bitten twice by the fact that it just doesn't have the top speed of many other candidates. Really wanted to get under 8:15 and on both the good laps I got with the AMG I thought I had it in the bag under the gantry. Nope, first one was 8:15.190 and the second one 8:15.171. When I was younger, I remember how on these kinda days on (simulated) Nordschleife I just made up my mind of getting it done and sat in the bench until it came to be. Now, body just can't do it. Soaked in sweat, muscles sore, wrists aching for the paddling... The focus just doesn't stay. These Nordschleife TTs are brutal compared to any other challenge at least for me. The unwavering demand of 100% attack all the time... Especially with these racing hards, the car just becomes faster and faster the more you push it. Just brutal and consuming. Also, the percentage of succesful laps just plummets for me with racing cars and tires. I just can't catch the slips like I can with road cars.

So, gold should be plenty safe, but when it comes to the NSX Nordschleife TT vs. this with GT3s, just proves what I've come to realize way back in the day: road cars and road tyres are my thing. On the NSX TT I was at 2.47% off the lead, this will end up with 2.75% or so. Even with my optimum (which is never obtainable on 'schleife) wouldn't have gotten me within 2.5%.

I guess most of us are in similar situations where work and life take energy and staying focused not to make mistake for 8:15 minutes is very difficult.
If anyone have advice on how to keep focus and avoid mistakes, I am listening 😊

I feel this pain....
I read about someone getting up early in the morning. This is something in the habits of different cultures, waking up 2h in advance to do private life stuff, like jogging, workout, or drive
Here in Italy it's not yet something really people does. Actually... wake up at 530 to do workouts and be in office at 8, maybe yes, but wake up at 4 (like some friend of mine in US does), it's maybe too much here.

Starting from there, late evening is the only choise. The drive time then sqeezes since you want to do some socialization with your family and/or share the TV

My main point would be not to trade sleep time / game time, at least not with regularity, and accept the fact that sometime is better "not to do".
It happened to me to get drained into a game couple of years ago (NBA2K) at the point where I spent 1-2h each day to keep up with the daily/weekly challenges. It didn't do any good for my wellness (even thought I enjoyed it)
GT, or driving in general, is also worst, because requires concentration and mental energy and, as you say, you may result in spend time only to get frustration.

One of the things that works for me is to cover over the time and delta. I mostly do look at the elapsed time and, especially at a long track like Nürburgring, the times at the end of sectors, to get an idea of progress. But when I'm simply chasing time rather than still learning lines and braking points and turn-in points, I often stick cardboard over all time elements. I've been doing that yesterday and today.

Part of the issue on Saturday for example was looking up at crucial times and messing up the next corner ("aviate, navigate, communicate" for those who know the reference), or seeing a good split two thirds through and then watching it wash away as adrenaline takes over. With a piece of cardboard over the time, all focus is on the road.

Can't you turn off that info in the display settings? Or does it turn off too much?

Aviate, Navigate, Communicate! That's a familiar skill to me, except in my cockpit it goes like this...

Check time, Check time, Forget to Aviate, Forget to Navigate, check time, Crash, Communicate (expletives only).

I believe in the flight training world covering up some of your HUD would be called 'partial panel' flying

Quick session this afternoon with no improvement, I second guessed myself and tried other cars and failed spectacularly. The only flying that took place was bits of my car over the barrier, after I hit said barrier.

Back to the 650Slow for another session tonight but not going in with much hope. I tried Autopolis again today, that looks A LOT of fun but I'm completely unfamiliar with the car (is this the new one? Feels different to the other..). I think I'll be able to get Gold but I haven't even managed to get to the second part of the track yet (and it's probably the one I know the least in GT7 DOH).

The concentration needed for the ring is pretty brutal. I can only do 3 laps back to back each session....that's still a good 25 mins of absolute focus.

Even in the uphill saction before the carousel and the back straight....you can't really relex. One get the left turn of death. The other you have the 30 seconds of terror for you to imagine how you will mess up the last few corners.

I jumped on for a quick session around Autopolis yesterday before I caught my flight, just to get a time on the board.

I accidentally got a bit into the zone and ended up spending 35 minutes going round and coming out with a 1.24.054 which completely exceeded my expectations by taking me into gold territory. I'm gonna have 48 hours to improve if I need to when I get back home.

Is anyone able to post the current Silver threshold for the Nurburgring TT?
