Ok... I've done 3 laps in it, with no help whatsoever, and only managed a 2:21, after a shocker of a first lap of 2:25. The top split is 2:16... Really shocking. First time driving this car with these newer updated physics, and it's absolutely atrocious accelerating out of slow speed corner exits, you have to be at like 4th gear for the car to not oversteer. And it wiggles a ton under braking.

Will probably have to spend a lot more time on this one than usual to get an actual representative time. Just driving this car to the limit is hard enough.

I was just doing some laps in this TT and the sky got really cloudy, then the car switched on the headlights for a while... Nice touch!

Really difficult on DS4, this one. Traction control makes the car a lot easier to tame, but also slow corner exits. May be enough for silver, but not for gold.

2.20.8xx by the way (no TCS). Gold at the moment is below 2.20.7xx... interesting challenge!

Based on your previous performances, have a bit of patience and you’ll be there in no time, I’m sure. Getting worked up over how terrible the first lap is makes no sense whatsoever. So was mine but it’s not even to be considered an attempt, it’s getting used to the car.

Day 1 attempt: 2:20.676 on lap 11 and called it quits for this session. It started to get dark on the track and I didn't feel like restarting. At the moment, barely a gold. This is a tough combo. The sliding takes getting used to. You can gain or lose so much time, especially in the final corners.

My optimal time was a 2:20.184. I only had one "best" sector on my fastest lap, and that was sector 1. I was a full 3 tenths off my best sector 3. So there is a lot of time to be gained. I'm sure with practice I'll find myself with a sub 2:20 lap. Who knows how much faster the top driver will go, though. I'm scared to think what time will be needed for gold by the end of the challenge.

Previous TT population. The Intelagos one was very enjoyable to me, even if I got gold just by a few tenths, the time managed to hold to the end.

The latest seems like it will be a bit of a tough one...

I did get to learn and like Maggiore during the Nations cup with the Radical, which was really a great combo.

And obviously not everyone likes the road cars, but I am quite happy with the variation and that we don't just use the 'normal' racing cars (Gr4 / Gr3).
Feels like a good opportunity to do something a bit different.

Had a 1,5 hour session before work this morning, i like the fact that is so completely different then te previous one, we have no grip, no downforce, weird powertrain, absolutely no stability in the car
I'm still figuring out what gears to use, mostly were i'm going to 5th, because 3th is a real b*ch ,
I have to get used to the "slide entry" and still be quick, but this one is going to be trouble but fun!
managed 1.20.8 this session, so as a start it's ok, lot more time to gain..

my real devils are corner 5 and 11 :banghead:

Turn 11 is the banked hairpin right? I actually think that one isn't that bad, you can carry a lot of speed, even while sliding.

Turn 5, which I assume is the uphill right hander, is definitely a b****h.
True!, 11 is indeed the hairpin, still doesn't feel natural, i brake on the 100m board ( maby possible to brake a little later? ) but just can't figure out the right turning point  .
And yes...5........ is just...... nothing flows right on that corner  it begins with the placement of the car, you can't be all left because braking under steering = drifting , then keeping it in 4th?, but the revs go down so bad so i have to find another line or more speed while on the apex, intgeresting corner, but still a b*ch ;)
But i like it, have to work for it :D

hi guys... we never talk about feelings, just about lap times, gears .. and so on...

so let me share how I feel...

I HATE this Nissan car Z performane ... funny name.. a last letter... Z.. it is definitely not A performance :D it is a boat, a refrigerator, everything else but a car :D

I did 5 or 6 laps last night - I dont know this track very well at all - most I can recall doing with it is one of the daily races used a short version. I must have done it in the cafe at some point...

Anyway, between the 100m and 50m boards there's something that sticks up, possibly a light board. I've been using that to work out my braking point, if you've carried good speed through the previous series of corners I think the braking point is just before that light board, it feels very wrong but the car will slow by the time you get to the corner.

I have a lot to learn on this one though.

Let's Go!

Regarding this newer time trial at Maggiore with the new Z, I think this'll also be a silver for me. It seems that the car is very unstable under braking, especially if you try turning while braking, and it also just seems to oversteer in general. Or maybe it simply takes some getting used to?

I bested my time from yesterday by a good half second to 2:20.131. However, my optimal time today was a 2:19.744. Sub 2:20 is so close. I'm hoping my time currently is good enough to keep gold if I never do put that one great lap together, but you never feel safe when right on the edge with the aliens. I THINK anyone under 2:20 will be okay...:scared:

The replay of the top time at the time I watched it showed them using the oversteer and instability under braking to drift around corners. They were using one gear longer than you'd use otherwise, which gives a more controlled drift. I don't think it's possible to match the speed around many of the corners that can be achieved by drifting if you try to keep the car stable. I took quite a few tenths off my time when I started trying to copy their drift style.

Wow the Z sucks to drive around Maggiore. I barely managed to get the gold time after an hour and a half of suffering. I don't know what it is with this car but there's something seriously wrong with the handling. It's terrible under brakes and tries to kill you with the overrun in 3rd gear, an issue made worse by some crappy suspension tuning. For a sports car it's absolutely shocking. Whoever signed off on this car should be shot because it is truly a disgrace.

After several laps on my second session I'm beginning to understand thr car a bit, I think the gold time itself is not extremely hard but to tie a good lap together...man.... 🤣, I already had an invalid 2.19.8 (just cutted a tiny bit to much) and had several gold laps were I even hit the wall quite hard 🤣
So definitely 2.19 is possible on DS4, this lap is also quite hideous, completely mist my devils corner apex by a mile and ****ed up the last corner, now quicker without CSA btw 😉

Nice work to those Golding this latest one. I’m finding it very tricky myself. Played for several hours after work yesterday, took a small break, came back, and ran a 2:20.176 on my 4th lap. It’s an ugly lap but hopeful it keeps me in the gold bracket 🙏

Just hopped on and I've slipped out of the top 500 and gold has been lowered since yesterday a touch - impressive!

Edit - now 411th. 2:19.452. Optimal was an 18.6 which would have got me top 200! Not sure I could actually achieve that though. Convinced I can go into the 18s though.

Edit 2 - now 315th, 2:19.282

Today I tried new combination and I'm so slow.
Sticking with 4th like I saw in one video here, but in the end, time is terrific.
The best I did so far is 24.7, more than second and half from silver...
Until now I have 2 golds and 4 silvers, this may be first bronze.

I know the track very well, I even like it.
It's the car.

In my opinion this car provides a great opportunity to learn to apply the basic theory of driving fast. The soft suspension means weight transfer is more pronounced, so all inputs (acceleration, braking and steering) have to be smooth to maximise grip and in turn go fast.

It is hard as hell though! And here is a statistic to support that statement: The table below shows the gap between 1st place and 100th place in %. This is so far the event with the biggest gap (1.66%). Only Fuji in the SuperFormula comes close at 1.36%. The average gap for the first 6 events was 0.93%.

I've managed a 2:19.77 so far, which feels (and is) a million miles away from 2:16.355 at the front, but at least not ridiculously far way from #100. Lots of time to try and get a bit lower into the 2:19s.

I accept this is not entirely comparing like with like, because we are only a few days into this one (although already almost 50k participants) and the stats for the completed TTs are at their end positions.

Well that one took some getting used to as I am not one to drive the road cars much. But after some spins and bins I was able to get a 20.107 and 20.013 on account 1 & 2 respectfully. Hopefully those are good enough as I am not much interested in trying this one again!

I still think the physics model is off base. I am no race car driver, but I've seen my fare share of the inside of road course walls on numerous occasions.... in a street car.... on street tires. It's more nerve racking driving these road cars in the game than it was in real life! And I was driving MY own car with real life consequences backed only by MY bank account!

The game just always wants to kill you and the whole downshifting to get rotation then when the car starts to understeer I'll just up-shift and fix it is beyond dumb. Same with coming out of turn A in 3rd at 25% throttle and the car spins, vs coming out of turn A in 4th at 100% throttle and it's settled down. That's not how it works, especially if you're driving a car with a real manual transmission as the car gods intended. Short shifting definitely has its place, but not as this game is conveying it IMO.
