What's the latest on Mount Panorama?

Controller or wheel?
Traction control, ASM, CSA?

TC1, ASM, No CSA, Manual gears on the wheel give me an easy 2:17.014. Puts me just at 4370th in the world for context - normally gold at this position.

For 30 minutes work I'm happy with that, but I don't think I have 2.5-3 seconds more in me for a safe gold.

The frustrating thing about these low-downforce & low grip TT's is that it benefits people with a lot of time on their hands, as you can throw the cars recklessly into corners, and if you string enough lucky attempts together you get a good time.

This is not the style of TT that makes you a better driver, as you would need a far more reliable approach in a race where you won't just restart if you hit a wall or spin out

Here are some statistics for TT37 at Blue Moon Bay Speedway - Infield A in the Dodge Viper GTS '13.

View attachment 1279160

Highlights:
  • Fewer than usual people got gold or silver rewards, but also fewer got no reward, so most people ended up in bronze.
  • Only 0.03% of drivers were within 1% of #1, against an average of 0.13%. A clear illustration of how difficult this car was and how unbelievably good the top handful of drivers are.
  • The gap between my best time and optimal time was ludicrously big given how short the lap is. Quite often I'd do what felt like a great first sector only to see 21.050 pop up, then a lap later I'd do what felt like exactly the same things and looked like the same things, and 20.700 would pop up. Same for the other two sectors. Kudos to those who strung good sectors together and got into the low 1:12s and better.
  • Thank you to @bianconiglio who suggested I add into the leader board columns to show how many of each reward type drivers have to date.
There are a lot of moving parts these days and I can't quality assure everything, so if you see something that looks off, feel free to let me know. Thanks.

Drivers with gold in all TTs
The number of drivers with gold in all TTs to date dropped from 121 to 119.

Amazing work as always @half_sourly !! Very impressed by your dedication to this. That spreadsheet must be looking rather almighty in its native state now!!

TC and ASM were def made me slower here,
(CA I have no idea, didn't try) so if you made an easy 17 I would def try to loose the aids and try again.
And recklessly throwing it around will certainly not give you a better chance at a solid gold time 😉
Don't give up 😁, just make some miles now and then, this TT just got started 😁

Next TT, starting the 17th, is on the site (RM tires):

Alright, finally got around to the Mount Panorama TT. The MC20 isn't quite as bad as I was expecting. It definitely took some laps getting used to the combo. I know all the corners around MP and enjoy the track in general, but I rarely ever run around it for whatever reason. The walls going up the mountain are always out to get you. It's a sickening feeling when you get slightly too hot into a corner just enough to the point where you know contact with the wall is inevitable no matter what action you take to avoid it. The car is...something. I do wonder how it would handle on a wider, less twisty track.

Anyway, I know I sound like a broken record every post, but the lap could have been better. I initially set my fastest time on lap 10 of 2:15.274. It took a full 15 laps to finally top that. Apparently I blitzed the tippy top of the hill on lap 10, just as you come out of the quick left before the heavy braking for the chicanes. I don't know what I did differently that lap, but I couldn't come close to matching that sector again. Unfortunately, I had a poor start to the lap, otherwise it would have been in the 14's. Lap 25 I finally beat it with a better first sector and run up the hill. As expected, I lost time cresting the hill and also had a poor exit leading to the long straight. So I end day 1 with a 2:15 flat.

My maximum with TC1 was 2:15.000. And I tried and tried... Then I turned it off, did about 20-ish laps to find the traction zones and learn how much throttle in which gear at which corner, and got it down to 2:13.950

Obviously you will be faster if you turn off assists and spend hours at it. For the average person, coming in and getting a silver within 30 minutes is much faster by using the combo of assists I mentioned.

It was supposed to be just a quick session before bed, but I finally gained confidence in the car while close to the barriers and pushed further, doing 2:14s consistently. This one I feel like really rewards longer sessions, it is almost 3 AM here now 😅. Just a little disappointed I was not able to match best sectors on one lap. Lost over 0.5s on sector 3 alone.

Ended up with 2:14.204 with 2:13.574 optimal 🥲

The name of the game is to get run a few laps continiously to get into the rhythm which in turns increases confidence. Even I'm still in the Bronze category, I've still got time to improve. Luckily, I love this track so will continue trying.

On the other hand, I'm happy with my Silver time set for RBR TT.

Had a time of 2:17:717 earlier. As per some expert players, I disabled ASM & Steering Feedback. The car did feel a bit more twitchy but boy oh boy, it's more controllable as well. I enjoyed the uphill & downhill section till the hairpin as the car now feels even more responsive.

I was able to better my time to a 2:16:483 to land in the Silver zone. Now I know how Albon must be feeling when he get his Williams' car into Q2.

I added several of your usernames just now, I sent friend requests so I can compare my time with yours and maybe watch your replays if you post it on the board.
YEAH welcome back Chris, glad you stay among us :)
Don't worry because except aliens, nobody can gold and win all the TT's. Once you accept it, you feel much better !

And to be honest, I'll probably not participate to Mt Panorama TT. Playing must be fun, not a punishment :D

I was early awake by the miaauwing sound of furry...05:45 AM....
So up in sadle again, refuel and throttle up.
After I went into the wall several times i took it down a noch because I was so frustrated, it just didn't work, even had that moment when you can't even make the first turn right a few times.
After T1 was ok again my problem shifted to the hill, whatever I did I did it wrong, penalty after penalty, I think there are no more readable banners on the hill now ...

So eased up, and did a far less agressive approach on the hill, after the hairpin even more easy on throttle in 3th and shortshift to 4th, and just less throttle all the way up, I personally found some time there, and there is much more time to find.
I had several laps in the low 14's now
If I look at my fastest lap it's kind of scruffy, with missing apexes, and lost exitspeeds because I had to lift far to long to prevent hitting the wall.

So lots more time to find, but glad i secured gold on the new console, did set the haptic to weak tho, suits me better for now/this combo and I just was to aggressively yesterday!

acrossed the line in 2:14.146

But it's mindblowing that a 14.1 only gets you 2.47% 🙈🙈

I'm starting to appreciate the combo a bit more.........maby....🤣

Yeah, I am ahead of you right now (I think it's the 1st time it's happening; you should return to the track, being behind me it's a crime against humanity :sly::lol:) and I am in 432th position  unreal

Also, because I found you in the table, I sent you a friend request :D Accept it at your own risk
I saw you pop up indeed 😁 great time there! 432 is a placement to be proud of! 😉
I think I was 441 at the time 😁🤣
Good to have another one on the list!

Thanks for the invite 😉

While everybody seem to spend nice holidays in Australia in the middle of nowhere with a hot italian girl, I have good time in Austria with Godzilla.
After an nice session with good sensations, I've improved my PB at 1:30.715 with an optimal at 1:30.500 !!

Sector 1: mostly around 22.7xx - This sector must be improved for the yellow reward
Sector 2: mostly around 40.0xx
Sector 3: regularly 22.7xx now

Still in silver but I love the smell of gold in the morning...

<RANT ALERT>

Just what are PD thinking, what is this ABOMINATION! Yes, I'm in a bad mood, yes people are pushing my buttons in the real world, yes nobody cares... But I'm gonna rant anyway. I love GT7, it's the only racing game I play at the moment. I have ACC, I play it from time to time, I love it's realism but more than that I LOVE road cars! GT7 gives us an incredible opportunity to try out a number of different road cars with physics that are reasonably close to real life so we at least get a taste of what it would be like to drive these incredible machines. When I saw Mount Panorama announced as the location for the next time trial my eyes lit up, I'm not sure I've done one here before but what a great track and the new Maserati supercar sounded like a great car to take round it.

I didn't know anything about the MC20 before buying it in the GT7 car dealership, I knew it would be a handful given the ridiculous decision to put it on 'sports hard' tyres which seem akin to a part worn budget brand I could pick up from my local back street garage for £10 a pop. So I threw on some Racing Medium tyres which thanks to the physics update seem to tame almost anything. I took it out for a spin round Dragon Trail... Yes, it's ok but god the brakes are incredibly poor even on racing tyres, dynamically it is all over the shop, a hyper-mobile nose that tucks in and evokes a spin with even the slightest of rotation. Piss poor. Then I threw on the sports hard tyres and took it for a drive round MP. What an absolute MESS. I know it's driveable and maybe some people will find it fun but my logical brain just isn't having any of it, this is pure arcade nonsense and so far removed from the reality. This was BEFORE I even looked into what the MC20 is like in real life. For it to be less dynamically composed than a 15 year old american muscle car with a chassis less developed than a Ford Model T is saying something. Then we add to that the most unforgiving track in GT7 and say off you go, enjoy! To add insult to injury, I hit a wall half way through the lap. Got the obligatory 3 second penalty and yet it did not register when I reached the penalty zone, so rendered almost 4 minutes of driving completely useless. Why.

And then to top it all off, I went and read some reviews on what the MC20 is really like. I was expecting to hear that it was a beautiful car that appeals to the soul not the head, best left in the car park of some five star hotel in Monaco and paraded around at 5mph, dynamically flawed but it doesn't matter. But no, it won Evo car of the year 2022. Evo magazine's tagline is literally 'the thrill of driving', it's all they care about. And they reckon this is the best thing since sliced bread, beating Ferrari's, Porsche's and Mclaren's, which just rubs more salt in the wound.

I know I know, I shouldn't think too deeply and just drive what's in front of me. But thinking deeply about things gives me the joy I get out of pursuits like this. When it's right it is so right, only last night I was driving a Porsche Carerra GT round the Nordschleife at maximum attack and thinking how wonderful it was. That's a car with a ferocious reputation and yet it was happy at 10/10ths on the most formidable track in the world. For all the painstaking hours PD spend on the smallest detail I'm just so disappointed they've missed the mark so spectacularly again, we now have two time trials that are anything but fun or realistic running side by side. It's not some deep dynamic flaw in the game, it's just incredibly poor decision making that turns one of the best parts of the game into a farce.

I'll keep going because I love the challenge but for me this is just a step beyond, for a company that calls itself 'the real driving simulator' and has just released a film exhibiting how it's realism can be translated into real world driving this is a piss poor effort.

Do better, PD.

Lots of Love, one of your biggest fans

Dan
This articulates my feelings nicely. If the Maserati really drove like this, it would be THE worst reviewed car of the last 10 years.
Today was a good day. I noticed that it's important to also breathe while dodging those walls at Mount Panorama and instantly improved my lap time by almost 4 tenths.

You are not normal. I am genuinely surprised that breathing is something you need to do.
Man I’m cracking up at the people who say this MC20 is crap and it’s on crap tires.. I think PD nailed it.. There so many factors going on and I think people are forgetting… first yes this is a hyper car/supercar but it’s not a track oriented car like a 911GT3RS. Second this is Bathurst we are talking about… one of the most challenging track in the world… I mean you have to be kinda crazy to go full out on this track especially in a league race or online competition. Third agin the MC20 is a great car especially for the streets but still it’s a handful to handle! I Run a league with close friends and family and I have serious OCD in trying to get every car to replicate it real life counterparts… The MC20 OEM tires are Bridgestone Potenza Sport tires and while they are great street tires… they are not track tires.. Sport hards imo fit the car perfect.

I have watched hours of videos on this car and all the people who review the car say the same thing… it’s a scary car… some were saying how the brakes were weird and how they initially don’t bite giving the driver less confidents… some were explaining how the suspension is also underwhelming and how the car has too much power… the chassis has no problem but it was the suspension giving drivers less confidence in pushing the car. These people also had the traction control on and other nannies helping the car stay stable and still they were explaining the cars a hand full, which reminded them of the 90’s supercar…. Fast and Dangerous.

If you factor in all that and add to the pot everyone driving the car is going 12/10 No electronics… on one of the toughest track in the world why are some shocked? This challenge is really testing the driver skill to tame this beast to get the best out of it. This car will not help you in no fashion to get a gold time nor the track, they both are against you and I love the challenge. I am only in the 2:16 with 10laps of driving… so I have a lot of work to do lol!
Bathurst is a great, tight track, but it is not undriveable. One of the things that is special about Bathurst is that it has several (many) weirdly cambered turns. For this particular TT it exposes GT’s major flaw which is the way it models weight transfer. I simply cannot accept that this car would feel like it has the centre of gravity of a bus in real life.

One important thing to note about Bathurst is that the road is crowned in the middle, which is probably why a lot of people are getting tripped up. Car placement is extremely important, particularly in the heavy braking zones where you need to keep the front end stable. Don't be too aggressive on the throttle either because the car will break loose without any hesitation. You really need to pay attention to what the car is doing to anticipate how it will behave and what abuse it can put up with. Bathurst is a real test of both car and driver so if it takes you a while to get comfortable, don't stress. Even the best drivers struggle around this geological oddity.
