I've had my runs with this thing. After Doodle coming back to kill me the last time and I lose gold by 0.023 at the end I'm content with Silver here. Currently under the Gold time, but now way I'm going to keep running laps to improve. 43.201 at the moment and definitely could have another 3 or 4 tenths on a perfect lap for me but am done fighting the Degner lottery gamble. I just can't get them right consistently.

But I do have to thank this time trial for really teaching me the line through the esses. I've always had a 'sort of' understanding of the driving line through there. Now I know it down for certain. I'm out on this one.

I don't want to know how many laps and aborted laps I've done of Suzuka. I was really enjoying this combo on Thursday, felt like a nice challenge getting into gold with a 1:43.4.

Then the cut-off came crashing down and getting back in has been frustrating as all hell. Not a fan of this combo or the car anymore, what with the double-shifting and the like. I've just about managed to finally find a rhythm and some extra tricks to get back into gold with a couple of tenths breathing room. :scared:

I really, really hope it doesn't get much lower. There's no way I'm going to make it into the 1:42s!

These TT's are definitely getting harder and harder, and this one is no exception, that's for sure. It took some time, around 7 or 8 hours in total, but I eventually got to the current gold time with my ds4 and A LOT of patience. 🌞 Best way to start the month :)

My time now stands at 1:42.7 -- Around half a second in the gold range, lets hope it stays like that! (I'd be surprised if someone beats Gallo but we never know...)

Double shifting is important, but finding the right racing line is what helped me the most. Definitely easier said than done, this requires some serious practice.

Well, have a great week folks🌞 Good luck to all!

Keep On Pushin' !

Struggling with this one; I am not getting along with this car. I just need to practice with it more.

The double shift thing is so dumb, but so PD at the same time. I can't get it to work consistently. I can be on a great lap, try the double shift and it doesn't work which basically ruins the lap. If only I could use my real stick shift it would be easy... but with the flappy paddles it's just hit the upshift a bunch of times quickly and hope it takes. Am I missing something?

It responds the same way on DS4. When I was learning it on the Radical I found that 2 quick shift button presses often get ignored, but to double shift it was either a quick 3 presses of the shift button, or a slightly stalled double click. It does take practice for sure, just some of us have been doing that for a lot longer due to other racing. And no need to lift throttle

Edit: @D_Dragline does it help if I have it on good authority there's at least another tenth in Gallo's sector 1?

Well, I did 3 more laps this morning and am at 43.0xx so the aliens can resume their hunt for that tenth.

Had a nice pickup tonight. I wasn't even planning on logging on to do my daily mileage, but I decided I had some time before midnight hit to make a run. I made my way down to 1:45.059 after 11 laps, roughly 2 1/2 tenths clear of silver...for now. I was only 3 tenths off my optimal time, and 2 of those tenths were the final chicane where I was too timid.

Despite that, I still need to shave off another 1.67 seconds to get the current gold mark. Ugh. That's not going to happen. :irked:

Any controller users here who were able to get below 1:42.5???
I‘m here🙋🏼‍♂️ I‘m on PS5 and using a regular Dualsense. It‘s quite difficult to pull off with a controller but I‘m currently at 1:41.559 after being stuck just below 1:42 in the beginning.
You really have to wrestle this car to make it go where you want to!
Made a video if someone‘s interested:

I remember in GT Sport that these older cars were 1-2 seconds faster when driven with Manual shifters(any brand, fanatec, logitech or thrustmaster). Like, by shifting, the car did not lose speed.
Can somone confirm if this still happen with the MCLAREN MP4/4 FORMULA 1 CAR or any older car?

Damn those shifts look extremely weird. But awesome lap time!
This combo really takes time to get used to it. Get along with understeer, find the right gears and get the right feeling for the handling.
Managed a 1.42,345 but Gallos lap is like he´s driving a different game. 😳

Shifting aggressive like that is the only way I managed to get below 1:42.
I don‘t enjoy driving like that but I guess you gotta do what you gotta do.

I just did a 30min session on my second account to see if my lap was a once-in-a-lifetime-thingy… I am now in the world‘s Top 100 twice😂

1:41.5???

How many hours to be able to do that?

Thanks for the lap, again a totally other way to get a fast time interesting!, great time!

Hey all, I have a question for you guys...

Just as I was wondering where was Gallo in these time trials, he shows up and destroys this week's challenge. No big surprise there.

Now I had a look at his profile, and it shows that he clearly has all 7 gold medals... How come I never saw him before that, along with all of the others on the world tour? The only one that seems to be constantly there is Romero.

My question is the following one: Do you think that PD restrains/restrained some of the top players to participate in these TT, in order to give us normal players a chance? - I find it weird not seeing Fraga, Beauvois, Kokobun, Miyazono (and the list goes on) anywhere in that leaderboard usually. Maybe they simply do not care about the time trials, but I highly doubt it. Maybe they aren't good enough to reach the top of the board, but I doubt it too  .

What are your thoughts on this? --- Thanks

A lot of aliens are just using them as a quick method to farm 2 million credits. Banging in a lap for gold and then not pushing too hard if they don't really enjoy the combo. Really annoying when you can find out they only spent an hour or 2 and you're sweating it for ages to get close to 3% or more behind them

I know the top times are always "unrealistic" driving styles like downshifting while the revs are extremely high (In real life, your engine would die after doing this for so many times during a single lap), overusing and riding kerbs and whatnot...

But this has got to be the most unrealistic of them all...
Changing gears 3-4x during a corner to get the rotation and then to avoid the turbo lag, plus the comical double shift technique. Haven't seen any other TT even come close to this, even the Escudo one wasn't anywhere near this "unrealistic".

The Hairpin and Degner 2 are my nemesis corners. I pretty much ACE the Esses and am fairly reasonable in the chicane and spoon, and also Degner 1, but those two corners are really incredibly hard to consistently nail. ... At least for me it's being. Slow speed corners are a pain for me... I only nail the chicane because of the amount of retries I do and it's the very first corner I take (even if not at the speed I take during the lap, I still get good references).

Tired of losing potential time on the straights, I decided to try "hybrid shifting" tonight. That is, I would go into and out of the turns before a long straight using automatic, pause the game, switch to manual and take advantage of the double shift before pausing and switching to automatic before I hit the turns again. Like I said before, I'm crazy sometimes! I did notice a huge difference, not only watching the blue arrow at the bottom of the screen, but also noticing myself hitting 130R at 200mph instead of the usual 195. That's pretty substantial. The tradeoff was the constant pausing and switching of transmission settings meant I could not keep any consistency whatsoever.

What I like about automatic transmission is that I can focus on the corners and hit them with precision, but I think there's more to gain with the speed advantage of double shifting and reduced wheelspin compared to the turns in this challenge. So I tried something I've never been a fan of - going full manual. With a couple laps practicing that, I could immediately see I would be faster given some time. The fact I was missing apexes and was still only half a second back from my best time was proof of that. A far from clean lap still led to a best time of 1:45.044. Yep, better than my time yesterday despite only running a few laps with manual compared to several days using auto. 1:44.6 was my optimal. I think I will continue lapping in manual to get used to it for the rest of the challenge. I foresee a decent pickup with practice.

Yeah, this one took quite some effort though. Was stuck at high 42’s for a while and then got it to .5 and eventually .253 which I’ll settle with. There’s more to gain with an optimal of 41.8 but I can’t be bothered to put in any more time in this combo. It has its’ charm but goddamn is it a frustrating one. Degner I was for me by far the trickiest corner to nail.

I usually do 30min session and I'd say I did 1 of those every day since this TT has released I think...
On the weekend I did a bit more. So I dunno maybe 3.5 to 4 hours in total til yesterday

Thanks for the lap, again a totally other way to get a fast time interesting!, great time!
No problem and thanks for the congratulations :dopey:
