Interesting thing 😁 I mean I am average driver on Dualsense motion steering so I am currently on 5,65% so I need to find 0,650 to reach silver..
But.. What I want to say.. I can start my lap so good that I actually lead Gallo and see him in rear mirror... Until the very first turn.
. And that's it haha 😁 then I can just see him in front of me, until I can't even that haha..
if someone is curious to test to lead Gallo on first straight, this is how I do it, I actually shift into fourth gear directly after start sequence 3,2,1 and start gently accelerating on very first right curve and then full gas on second left turn (the chicane before start) and double shift to 6th gear on start line, or just before...

Yeah, that's it for me. Had a free day today, pulled about 800km in a single session and made it to the top 100, top 70 even, and I feel that if I could nail some corners like I did in some other slower laps, a 1:41.5 or below would definitely be possible.

As it is, 1:41.740, good enough to beat the GOAT of qualifying himself, Ayrton Senna.

More time trials like these please. Only thing I disliked about this one was almost constantly screwing 1 of the 3 double shift zones... The rest, car/track combo was almost perfect.

Wowzers, what a difference manual makes! Note my best yesterday was a 1:45.044. Tonight I cobbled together a 1:44.410 lap that was far from perfect, with an ideal lap roughly 8 tenths better. That was my first run. As the sun set and it became difficult to see my lines, I decided to start anew and give it a couple more laps to see if I could improve with better visibility. 4 laps later I did this. I called it quits after I slid off in turn 2 to start the following lap. I can't believe I'm saying this, but gold might actually be in range after all! :dopey:

When this car was first added, I'd been waiting for PD to actually use it in one of their events. I loved the Lotus 98T/F1500T-A in GT6 and Sport, and prefer high downforce cars in general, so I knew I'd likely love this one as well. As soon as I saw this combo was the next time trial, I knew this would be a week of try-harding (in stark contrast to skipping the last time trial as I didn't like either the car or the track). Good thing the championships are over, and the Dailies are boring, so I can focus exclusively on this! 🤣 I set a gold time pretty early on, and I've been spending the rest of the time chipping away my lap time a tenth or so at a time. I turned off TCS yesterday and found a bit more pace that way as well (it was cutting in too much at the end of the esses as I tried to accelerate toward the Degners), and today I finally got under 1:42.0.

This was the effort of lots of try-harding that I normally wouldn't bother with in time trials (I usually just keep going until I set a relatively mistake-free gold lap, plus 1 additional improvement before calling it quits on a time trial). This video has 4 different perspectives on the same replay. Anyone looking for lap time references should start around 2:00 in the video, since that's the perspective that I drive from (bumper cam) and the only one in the video with the telemetry turned on. The other perspectives in the video are the "broadcast" view, "TV camera" onboard, and helmet camera.

Same with me, the only TTs so far that I've truly "tried hard" was the SF19 at Fuji and this one. I probably put about 200-300km in each of the other TTs, probably a bit more with the last with the Z at Maggiore but not much more. And much like you, also enough for a "clean" gold time.

I put almost 1.000kms on this one already. And I may even think about cracking that 1:41.5 for a top 50 or higher finish. The Suzuka Esses are just so pleasing when you nail them, among the best section of corners of any track IMO. The whole track is... pretty much every corner of it is unique in its own way.

So I finally got around to trying out this TT, and I can see this one being a very difficult one for me. I only put in about a dozen laps, but in the first 5 I couldn't get below 1:55! Constantly running a tyre off track, out-braking myself or just missing apexes. I bailed out and then tried again after a couple of laps in a row where I ran off the track in stupid places. Second batch of laps I managed to get down to a 1:47, but still absolutely miles off even a silver time! I can see this one soaking up a lot of time just to get to that level - single seaters aren't my happy place...

This current one is probably the hardest one I've ever had. I'm struggling to break into silver range for a change, but I'm getting better. One important thing I've noticed is that despite all that power going to the rear wheels, it's actually better to have the TCS off rather than set to 1 like I usually do for most higher-powered cars. I wonder if the downforce could be a consideration, too?

Well, after my initial attempt and being over 1.5 seconds off of the gold time I went back at it today. After like 100 miles on the rent-a-car I was able to put in a gold time of 43.197. A little too close for comfort. Then went onto the 2 account and beat it yet still with a 42.979.

Ayrton Senna, I am not.

Dear Gallo,

How about you leave well enough alone on this one, okay?

Thanks,

Non-Aliens

I took a rest from GT yesterday. Came back tonight and put down 9 laps. Lap 8 was a good one, lowering my time to 1:43.692. Every sector was my best of the session with the exception of the third, where I got burnt by a missed double shift on the long right hander after the hairpin. I swear I push the buttons exactly the same every time, but every once in a while, it simply doesn't go into 6th. My optimal time was down to 1:43.431. Close to gold, but still not quite there.

It is Formula 1 weekend at Suzuka this weekend and here is a helmet cam from Fernando Alosno setting best time in rain yesterday on Friday practice 1. Not that it will help some of us win gold, but still might be nice to see how a real pro do it.

No double shifting on straights ? What a noob 😌

this one is also quite relevant

Struggling with getting gold on PS4 with controller. Any pointers from other gamepad users?

Edit: Having mostly understeer issues mid corner. I feel I need to push the car more to its limits but sometimes the front doesn't feel planted at all, as either I need more downforce or softer spring or suspension rates at the front. This car doesn't feel as agile, as I would expect or set up for my usual driving style.

Edit 2: Golding the SF19 TT was a breeze compared to this. There I always felt, as if I could turn in more than I did and go even faster.

Pad on PS5 for me currently a 42.7. Try briefly dropping to a lower gear. I find if you leave it in the gear you want to exit the corner in, the car doesn't slow down as much as you expect off throttle, so it feels it pushes on a bit. Kinda weird. The top guys are rattling down and back up all the time. feels wrong but it works.

So I'm just learning about this "double-shifting" stuff now, and I get that I need to shift twice on the straights, but how does it work from a physics/gameplay perspective? Like how does it truly help?

From seeing a comparison to a ghost not doing it and me doing it... the momentum you lose from the double shift and the diminished acceleration from being in a higher gear and pulling from lower revs is gained back + more by not losing momentum with the shift to 6th. Ie you lose out initially but you reel them in when they have to change from 5th to 6th. On shorter straights it is of no benefit because you don't spend enough time accelerating to make back the loss from the double shift.

Anyway, if only I could put together a complete lap...

The double shifting gain is a result of a slow shifting system of an older car -- during the shift you aren't accelerating. So by having this shift delay once instead of twice you spend more time accelerating even though you might start in 6th slightly out of the best power band which is why you initially might lose a bit of ground on a car that didn't double shift.

For me at least, this ruined the feel of the combo... I got a time good enough for gold and put it away without a second thought.

I have seen a few people on youtube double shifting when they shouldn't. As far as I know there is no reason to double shift if you were never going to get to 6th in the first place before the braking zone... heading into the degnar 1 for example just shift from 4th to 5th and you will hit the corner before needing 6th. So I think 2 sections of the track where the gain is significant [start straight and after spoon curve] and one where it's more marginal gains [into spoon curve].

I suppose we'll see what the super-Aliens manage in the race tomorrow at Suzaka...... will they beat the GT7 Aliens????
Verstappen plugged a 1:29.304 for qualifying....... way ahead!
