If you touch the brakes when you have to go full speed after a corner exit, you lose a lot of speed

Some people manage to maintain full battery while going full throttle, no idea how... Some kind of cheating or game hacking??? It seems very much so

Battery in the Audi VGT Gr1 lasts 3 corners if going full speed. Unless I'm missing something, there's nothing you can do to stop discharging it, you either brake and go slowly, or you go full speed and the battery is gone in no time

With controller... I think you can forget about doing decent laptimes with understeery machines

Car choice may also help. My goal was a silver time with the '16 Toyota and with helpful advice (@GlockPants: thank you!) I could manage 1:07,298.

A short test with the '16 Audi was way slower. Not as I remember IRL at that time...

I invested the credits of the Tsukuba time trial (by the way, did I already mention my Gold Award?!? 😉) the Porsche 919. Within 10 laps I got almost half of a second faster (1:06,824). So, If you've got the car or the credits - give the META Porsche a try.

The Lambo VGT reminds me of the awful Bathurst time trial. Definitely not my cup of tea. For those about to lap I salute you!

Hello friends! It’s good to be back 😎 first thoughts on Gr1 at Road Atlanta; tough but rewarding. As always with these strange hybrid things it took a while to get used to but the 919 is pretty good; like everyone getting turn 3 right is a struggle as is a clean turn 5.. This car needs a lot of precision to be fast!! Enjoying it though. I tried the Lambo VGT trial once and I’m tempted to never ever try again…

Back at the ‘ring, god I love this trial! The Civic gets more and more fun for me as I learn its limits and I think a sub 7:42 time is possible with a magic lap and I’m gonna keep trying! Lots of slidey fun 😁

Only fitting that I set a decent time after having the best trip I’ve ever had to the actual ‘Ring! Most laps I’ve ever done and my car performed rather wonderfully given it’s (and my) advancing years 😁 I also rented from rent4ring and would happily recommend it to anyone, very good value , great people and great selection! I even made it onto an auto addiction video (being overtaken by a very fast, very pink Audi 😂)

Ill try and limit my non-GT7 waffle but here’s the first digital download picture from my trip 😎 (love you mods 😘)

How do people on the community leader board feel about the addition of DR and SR? I show an example below.

Would you mind voting by using the Like emojis below this post, as follows, then I'll implement the majority view from next week's results.
Doesn't matter to me if you want to include mine. I haven't run a single online race yet. Thus my B S rating.

As has already been said. Car choice plays a big role here. The Audi requires quite a lot of battery management while the Porsche will get you through a lap without having to worry too much.

As for how it’s done:
You make sure you start the lap with a full battery by dragging the break when accelerating out of the last chicane. - yes this will slow down your top speed. But you will notice that the top Audi ghosts are all surprisingly slow at the start of the lap for this reason.
Once you hit 250kph(i think?) battery will no longer drain because the hybrid isn’t being used and you just can go full throttle.

First corner: don’t lift just tap the break a bit. Also helps with battery charge.

The twisty downhill section shouldn’t drain much battery since you will be turning most of the time. (Depending on steering angle hybrid will not be active).

The short straight will use a lot of battery which is why you drag the break. Not at the start, but at the end as you close in to the braking zone.

If you’ve done everything right this will give you most of the battery charge for the long straight which will make or break your lap.

Again drag the breaks a bit before the final chicane to get as much power for the final straight as possible.

Someone who is better at this than me can probably give more tips/or correct something I might’ve gotten wrong.

Or …. You can just not worry about any of that and use the Porsche.

Both the Audi and the Porsche pretty much need to be on the first lap after restart to get a perfect time.

The Toyota might be even better when it comes to battery.

TLDR: only use the Audi if you’re really good at battery management.

Also: long time lurker first time poster. Hi everyone. 👋

My second fastest time (and first gold I managed) at Road Atlanta was a flying lap. I use the meta. I found running a bunch of laps was key to figuring it out. No restarts for maybe ten or fifteen at least. Helped me a bunch in sorting the handling and braking. Once I was close to feeling like I did all I could without boost I started the restart thing and while I'm not one of the fastest it came pretty easily. I think I've got a couple tenths still in me if I can find them.

Beautiful machine! (What a good envy...)

Made it to the top 10 at Sainte-Croix. :) The Lambo tends to understeer a lot but I think it's still manageable, and even pleasant at moments with those 4wd power slides.

Oh My God! You managed to get the Certificate! Congrats!

Jokes aside, congrats on the lap!

Let's go, :gtplanet:!!!

Can't say I'm a fan of the Lambo. Well, whatever this...thing is, at least. The only slight satisfaction I get is through the esses. Otherwise, ugh. I went flying right into the barriers on turn 1 of my first lap. I felt like I was driving on marbles. And I don't mean the rubber buildup outside the groove. Like 4 giant marbles where my tires should have been. It took quite a few laps to get a handle on the car, then I slowly started dropping my time. My first day in the books is 2:00.914. I could have gone faster, but I really didn't feel like it. With that said, I think a sub 2:00 is obtainable with fewer mistakes. I'll watch the guides for tips and tricks.

Thanks for the long explaination... So instead of the typical "lift and coast", you do the "brake and gas" method??
Feels really weird for a kinda "old school" driver, indeed.
Anyway, I already did gold with the Porsche, which is arguably the faster car. Although, it's always helpful to learn little tricks here and there about the damn hybrids and the battery deployment "secrets".
Cheers man!

The Lambo is 4WD and like all 4WD in this game you have to drive them in a special way: Get early to the apex, as narrowly as possible, then exit as quickly as possible. All 4WD in this game are driven quick the same way.
Use downshift to brake better and rotate the car better. It's tricky but you eventually realise how it's done.
Also you have to be very smooth, don't let the car slide through corners.

The car drives weird doesn't it? It understeers on entery in most corners, but some corners the car will just oversteer. And on exit it understeers massively if you increase the throttle too gently. You basically have to stomp at the throttle during exit to rotate the car (and it only works in 3rd gear). I'm sure you can get into the 59s without too much of a problem...it didn't take me long to get there.

Exactly.
It does feel super counter intuitive if you’re not used to it.

Battery management in hybrids is certainly a unique skill set. And even knowing the “tricks” it adds quite a bit of mental load until you’ve gotten to the point where it is second nature.

But enough about hybrids. I have to get back on track and find .8s in the civic on the Nordschleife. 😵‍💫

Oh yeah, I've learned how to drive all types of cars in GT7 with these TT's. This car is still an enigma for the bolded reasons @Evilmuffin mentioned in the quote below.

Totally agree. I never know what I'm going to get in turn 1. I've pushed wide, but I've had plenty of instances of getting sideways. Meanwhile, the first left hander (turn 3?) is very tight. The more I brake to get the car turned, the less it wants to. It actually turns BETTER when I mash the gas.

I also agree 3rd gear is the only way to exit the corners. A couple of turns I drop it into 2nd briefly for rotation (sometimes works). But 3rd gear out always.

I'm not keen on going back to the TT, but I really would like to get into the 59's before it's over.

Back again after another quick trip away, glad to get the money for the bronze on that terrible Tsubaka TT (although at the very bottom of the table again - nice to keep consistent! 🤣 )
Got enough miles for the gift today in the Lambo VGT - not very familiar with this layout of the course, but only 2 seconds away from bronze so should be OK here too. Wish I could say the same about the other 2!

Sometimes when you start playing a TT during a random day & you feel you'll better your time. It's just so intuitive!

I've been playing the Nurburgring TT daily as I know I can't even aim for Silver at either Atlanta TT or the St. Croix TT as of now. I rather enjoy the nurburgring TT while it's there.

I was able to better my best time of 7:51:718 today. After a few runs, I got a PB of 7:51:441 (A/T) but didn't ace all the sectors. I then switched to M/T and did a little better with 7:51:380. Again I didn't ace all the 12 sectors as my optimal time is 2 seconds faster. But will keep playing this TT till its last day as this is a TT which will be one of my favorites ever.

P.S. - The difference between my 10th lap & 13th lap is just a thousandth of a second across this legendary 20+km lap!!!

Wow...Lambo VGT... It's definitely one of those, hate from start love at the end.
At first I was thinking this is THE worst TT we ever had. Then I played two sessions, under 2 minute, checked replay of @Metalgear9493 and 1:59 flat
P110 currently 😊

I only feel hate for the combo for now......I'm sorry 🤣🤣🤣
You are fire again mate with a P110 🙏🍾
Great job!

Today I joined the Certificate Club at the Nürburgring TT (7:44.689) and posted a time (1:59.301) in the St. Croix TT.

I can't help but feel that PD is about to release a video where Kaz laughs uncontrollably for two minutes while trying to speak, then finally gets it out "Gotcha! We're just kidding. You didn't really think we'd let you do a TT in that steaming pile of #!&! did you? 819kg!? More like 8019!! We'll put the real combo up in the morning."

Congrats on the certificate mate, great achievement 😁👍👍 welcome to the club 😁

Yeah, I notice some are beginning to understand or appreciate the combo, but during the two stints I did it felt awefull, for me personally this has nothing to do with the thrill of nailing corners and be quick.

On the other hand, maby I hate it but another could be in love with it, glad we are all different...... but I'm 100% with you on this one 🤣🤣

What a tough Lambo/St. Croix combo. My goal was sub 2:00, but just ended up with a .151. Good for the 2.5% mark gold. I'm quite happy with that. Might try for the sub 2 but might go back to Road Atlanta for a while or try and squeak in some more Ring. I'm 3 seconds off that certificate!
