A question: I never did those time trials since I thought that PS Plus is required. Now I heard that it's not required. But since you have to register I wanted to ask first: Do you need to have a appropriate car or do you get one for those time trials?

You can always borrow a car and don't have to own any car in those time trials, like the GR4 timetrial you can choose your own if you want, but the Michelin is a fixed 918 wich you can't change

I can't even access RA Michelin TT because its "not available in my region", come on...
Drives me mad. I was on a gold streak (Every TT gold) up until the Olympic TT which was also geographically restricted (The Olympics lol). To some it means nothing, but I like to chase such things..so it was a big kick in the balls when I missed out on having the chance to push myself and keeping my perfect record. At the least they could let us take part just for the 2 million credits.

Think I'm gonna make a discrimination placard and march down to PD's office 🤣

You're not the only one

But I'm almost considering doing the Michelin RA and Alsace TT ahead of the Honda Nordschleife TT. I'm pretty sure I'll be able to Gold those two faster. I can't decide ...
I can help you decide, you go for Alsace first, you will gold it in short time. However, there is a danger with this one, it is big fun and times can be pushed more and more and it is easily you get addicted to this one and it is "just one more lap, it goes fast and easy, it is only 50 seconds, few turns lap" :) have I helped you haha :)

Thank you!

I think I will do this, Friday is a day to typically do not have a lot of time for GT7. Hopefully 30 minutes will be enough to set a Gold lap time.

Well, after some shenanigans because of work I found myself going round and round and round again last night. But not at Alsace, back at RA in the 918. I had one go earlier in the day, scoffed at the ridiculous power understeer before I’d even started a lap and gave up; it feels a lot like the Lambo V12 trial, slightly ridiculous handling but once you understand it; a lot more fun than the Gr1 trial at RA as the 918 has a lot more adjustability and there’s more than one line that can be fast!

Happy with my time for now and as at time of setting my PB two certain alien and/or Finnish pilots hadn’t tried it yet I WAS TOP OF THE FRIENDLIES BOARD!!

A quick couple of questions to the lovely people here:

1. Do you keep your ghost on to provide inspiration to beat your best time OR keep it switched off to avoid getting distracted?

2. To those using the DS4, how many of you are using the motion sensor option for turning instead of the L1?

I hate this game sometimes.

This one is pure pain..... i would be mad...very mad
But you are almost there, keep pushing!

At the very least, you have 9 days of fun to try and improve (I mean technically you could improve and still not beat the target time )
Dude..... :lol::lol:

I set it 0.5 or 0.6 ahead so i'll have something to drive to, but like on Road Atlanta when i'm before the S'es and i gained a lot i'll hit L3 to toggle it off and when i'm on the stright i just toggle it back on
So i does distract me, but only when i'm gaining or it is to close, once you get faster and load faster ghost you always loose, so problem solved :lol:

As far as i know the only one with motion is our own alien @Barareklam , if you have any questions about motionsteering he's the man you have to talk to.

I use the WR ghost and have it reset each sector. When I improve and get to within a tenth or two of the ghost it can get very distracting, especially when I am IN the ghost and then just get behind it and it pops up JUST before a braking point etc! I find it very useful for timing braking and turning points (I think these would be easier in VR with the 3D effect you get.. I hope.... I want to try it!). I don't use my own ghost because when I do I just end up making the same mistakes each time and don't improve as quickly

1. No ghost. Each to his own, but I don't understand the need for them and when I watch a YouTuber do trials or qualifying sessions with the ghost right in their face, I just don't get how that does not distract them.
  • Learning lines argument - I watch videos from the youtubers and those posted on here, or work lines out for myself.
  • Inspiration/ progress argument - delta shows me progress, but in general I do one lap stints and/or put cardboard over both lap-time and delta, because I find they distract me. That adrenaline rush when you see a good delta at the last split has cost me many good laps, so once I know where I'm going and have a decent time, cardboard goes on so that I can focus on looking at braking points and apexes (which make for good laps) rather than splits and deltas (which generally for me don't).

2. Wheel user.

I typically start with the WR ghost (+0.6 s, reset each sector) to learn their lines. I wish I could say I had @Dan_Tes 's problem of getting so close to it that it becomes distracting, but well ... 😂

Then when I feel like I have the line figured out, I switch to my own personal best ghost (same settings) simply because I like the feeling of progress that I don't get from the WR ghost constantly pulling away from me.

Typically, my first stint I only have my ghost. I like to see what I do naturally before I let the fast times influence me. I feel like I learn a lot from comparing what I think is fast vs what is actually fast. I can then apply that knowledge.

I use a fast ghost either from one the people on my friend's list that is closest time to Gold cut off or the WR. I don't bother adding time to it, for me I may take a different line that is still efficient. Just because it's fast doesn't necessarily mean it's the fastest. I like to work my own way through, too.

For the Sainte-Croix TT I used @Dan_Tes ghost that was one of his slower shared laps. Still faster than me, so I usually don't have to worry about adding time

1. Use the slowest ghost to start with .3 ahead, as my pace ups I choose faster ghosts. I don't reset at each sector and always make sure I adjust the ghost to never be catchable offset wise. I just like the company by the end of the week :)

Dan is right on the deltas, just seeing them influences my behaviour/mistakes :)

2. Wheel user I'm afraid.

1. I usually start challenge without ghost or watching any replay or tutorial, just to learn my own way and then I turn WR ghost on, on -0.2 sec in general, but if I need to get more knowledge I can test to lower to -0.1 or even 0. I remapped ghost button to circle button so I can toggle it off/on if it disturb me while driving. I can also keep " reset ghost" or not reset it, depending on TT and how close to ghost I am. What I learned is that you can try advices you got from people here on forum and see how it goes. Also, after some improvements you can try all advices again, since some things might work nicely for you in current TT or your current skill level, and some work better after some time.
2. Yeah I was on motion sensor steering on ds4 too, but I got PS5 so yes again on motion sensor steering on DualSense too. I read someone else here on forum is steering like me, and yes me wifey too. Looks like we are not so many. I think I can give similar advice as for point 1. That means if you now test it on Michelin Porsche 918 Road Atlanta TT and if you try it on slower car on Alsace, you might like it differently on these two TTs.

First few laps I usually use no ghost and try to get used to the car-track-combo and see where I’ll get.

After that I’m mostly using the WR ghost offset at +0.2 with reset at every sector. Might adjust that depending on the situation, like, if I feel like I am getting too close.

1. I just don't get how that does not distract them.
delta shows me progress

Personally, I find looking at the delta way more distracting than the ghost. I sometimes wish I could turn that off.

But as you said, to each their own. Ultimately it all comes down to personal preference.

Life is busy! Just jumped on for 45 minutes, golded Alsace, the Michelin thing and I'd slipped on the Lambo so improved there as well. Not gonna have much time to invest over the next month at least so no super competitive times from me.

Gonna have a tight schedule on one of the TT as well as I'm in Japan for work from for the last 2 weeks of November. Gonna have one evening to try and get a gold that lasts in the TT on 16th of November

Not sure how good you are, but if you have, let's say.... room for improvement, like me, this is my strategy:
Go in the showcase and pin couple of ghosts of different time, then, go to the actual Tt and chase selecting one of the pinned one which is within reach .
This allows me to have a ghost to chase for the whole lap.
A much quicker ghost fade away too quickly

Tried the Michelin TT today, and boy, that Porsche is tricky. Took about 10 laps before I could get a clean one because I was completely overdriving the car at first. Once I found the rhythm, I started getting low 1:15s, and after some grinding managed to get a 1:14.766

Then moved on to Alsace to see if I could improve my yesterday's 47.300. After about 100 mid 47s I finally got down to 0:47.224 with a slow last corner. Not complaining but if I had nailed the last corner the lap would have easily been a 47.1xx.

I don't think I'm done with either one yet.

I almost always use the current WR ghost with a 0.2 or 0.3 sec offset and have it reset at every sector.
