Bb or A# (second fret) actually :P Wet Sand by the Chilis uses Bb minor nicely at the end of the sequence too. This photo is from one of his solo tours though and off hand i can't name any of his tracks that use Bb m.

Suz: Yeah i spotted that too. I think the dark area above the knuckle needs to be removed as it's created a ring that makes his finger look stuck on.

edit wrong pic.. just a sec

.. update.

didnt realize u photoshopped it first -- or am i misreading? I thought that was the original - i was gonna say i want the rest of that series. Speaking of which - the guy should be able to afford someone who can take a decent photo of a car! :dopey:

PS: updated original post for my progress.. it apparently takes me a lot longer than it takes you :dunce:
I will also be dong the lenses by hand [coloring with the brush tool in flash]like i did with the Nismo R34 [see signature]

That's funny as hell actually that you thought it was the origional, makes me feel I did my job effectively.

It's looking sweet Suz, good job and good luck on the rest. I'll keep an eye on the updates.

My first somewhat cool vector art in Illustrator CS2. work in progress. 👍

suzq, i didnt even know it was possible to draw like that in Flash, i am taking a Web Design course and flash is my next subject, on Fireworks right now. Anyways, Subaru is looking awesome, love the detail 👍

nice gallardo :D here's an update to the STi havent done much cause im still fuggin sick... it sucks :(

i'll post screenshots occasionally until i'm done; large pic is most recent. So look for a lot of updates to this post. This is being done in Flash Professional 8. The reason for flash, is its relatively faster in flash than in Illustrator - I have experience in both programs, its just a simple preference. Thanks for viewing & as always - comments appreciated :)

Update again after 29 hrs TOTAL.. im almost there [April 6, 2007]

1 Hour in to my first ever vector/attempt.

I'm trying to do it without tutorials, just by looking at other pictures.

This is what I have so far. The real one is much bigger.

It should have a background when it's done, hence the car not being so big.

donbenni, the exact words that came out of my mouth when i saw ur poster were, "that's fn* badass!" lol very nice work.👍 👍

update on my gallardo, please any suggestions are more than welcome. I really want to learn all the design tricks and whatnot. I work at something like Kinko's down here, and i really enjoy everything that has to do with design.

far from being done...

Heres an update on my first vector, tips would be helpful.👍

Also, what's easier to do, make little shapes and color them in, or use gradients?

Making little shapes, but gradients give a more realistic effect. But using gradients are easy once you get the hang of them, just don't overdo the gradients with high contrasts since it'll look horrible.

Thanks for the tip.👍 +rep

Gosh this stuff takes forever. I'm in 6 hours and I barely have anything done it seems. I don't know where to start on the shading parts.

EDIT: It seems like the car has too much reflections and details to use gradients.

You could use a gradient for the base colour and block shade everything else in. You could even make little shapes and fill them in with gradients that fade away into a transparent 'colour' so you can realistically make reflections. ;)

On vectors, is the point to keep things simple, or to not use a lot of different colors. For example, I have a rumble strip I am vectoring, and each red one has shadows and highlights of a different color than the other red ones. Can I use more colors, but keep them simple, or should I find 3 or so colors and use them for all of them?

EDIT: This should kind of show what I mean, but I don't want to post up the full size pic yet. I haven't really seen much vectored landscapes, so I don't have anything to compare to, but I feel like I used too many variations of color of the piece of grass on the right side of my pic and now it just looks weird.

Is this not vectoring, or would this just be part of my "style"?

EDIT #2: I haven't finished to road yet, so don't mention the lack of texture.

fideles: Looking good man. The colouring is general is pretty darn good. The only thing i'd say is about the rim. It looks a bit thin at the mo, like it's made out of paper. Dunno if you've finished the rim yet, but if it's still as it is it needs some more shading down the side of each spoke to give it its 3D look.

Perfect Balance: r.e. the grass: Grass is green. So leave the shapes as they are but recolour the (CTRL+U) to green. Maybe make the difference in contrast between the light shade and the dark shade a bit less too. Should look a bit better after that.

The colouring of the car is quite easy. Start by colouring the whole car in in one colour (your base shade) - pick a shade/colour that is used the most on the car. Now compare your coloured area with the photo and if you spot a section that is darker (like around the front bumper intakes) then draw a shape with the pen tool and choose a darker colour. The idea is that you go through the colouring process several times, each time you use a darker shade. So on the first time through you colour EVERYTHING that is darker than your base shade with your first dark shade. Then you go through again with a darker shade and colour the bits that are darker than your first dark shade. Repeat this until all the dark areas are done.

Then you do exactly the opposite with the lighter shades.

Then you do all the areas of black, like the holes of the intakes and the windows. If you want the windows shiny you add in a grey/white layer on top here.

Then you add the details like the lights etc.

At the end you should have a layer structure similar to this:

- details (can be on separate layers or in separate folders if you wish)
- grey
- black
- lighter3
- lighter2
- lighter1
- darker3
- darker2
- darker1
- base shade

Perfect Balance: r.e. the grass: Grass is green. So leave the shapes as they are but recolour the (CTRL+U) to green.
Well, it's actually dirt, except for a few patches.

Thanks for the coloring tips.

EDIT: Update!
I'm sort of doing the coloring as I go. Maybe it's not as "vector" ish, but I think it looks cool.

Perfect balance that looks amazing, wish I knew how to do that but I have tried to do it before but I am just rubbish at them.

Thanks, I'm also real pleased at how it's coming out. I thought it was going to be much harder, especially since it's my first time doing this.

Here's how it is of now, after about 15 hours of work.
I still haven't finished the bumper on the car, so I know it looks wierd.

I know it's not very "smooth" with the color transitions, but I'm doing it exactly like the base image, which has a lot of reflections on the car from the road and sides of the track. If I put all of them in, and make all the transitions smoother, it would be way too much.

man, that is way better then my first vector! u have done similar work havent u?
I have experience with photoshop, but I had never used the pen tool before, and I've never vectored before. The only thing I've done is photoshop pictures of cars.

Here's another update, the car is basically done, although I think I'll be doing an interior. I still have the backround to do though.
