Current WIP... this is my first time doing this, so forgive me :dopey:

Also, any pointers would be handy... I did take a look at Donbenni's tut, but any other tips would be handy ;)

About 30 minutes into it, while chit chatting on Trillian...

Damn! That's great :D
Keep it up! :D

Btw, what car is it?

1987 Corolla FX-16 GT-S

I'll resize the picture of it I am working off of when I get home. It is my friends car for autocross, so I figured why not. Next will probably be my MR2.

EDIT: The picture...

I'm strongly considering trying a better picture for my first one.. and then coming back to this, as the gradual shift in value caused by the flash (it was late when I took the picture) is a pain to make shapes around... or I'm just lazy :/

Progress on mine... the values and stuff are just... bothering me

Should I just get a differetn picture for now? Or keep messing with this?

A question: How the **** do you make the gradient non black and white in AI?

You'll see "tabs" on the rail that signify the constraints of the gradient... those "tabs" are also indicators of what colors you are currently using. click on the tab and then go to the color pallet and it should change colors. You can also select a color first and then drag the tab to the gradient scale. I have a feeling I'm gonna need visual aids to show you. Hope that works.

Open the gradient tab, and you should see the gradient slider down there, one box filled with white and the other one black in colour. Click and press alt at the same time on either of the boxes, and then go to the toolbar and look for those two boxes, now, select the one with the solid colour one (I think donbenni told you about this a few pages back), select your prefereed colour and you're done! :) Hope this helps.

Edit : Damnit, vipfreak beat me to it!

Some sort of image editing program. Many (including myself) use Photoshop, however it can be done with any image editing program with a good list of features. That is my second attempt, though I have been working with PS in other pursuits for about two years.

If you are using PS, here is a good place to start off with some basic stuff:

donbenni has written two very good tutorials on the subject.

Uh, I'm really glad you wanted to help me, but I still don't get it. Sorry. :dunce:

Let's try this again. :D

1) Okay, so you have something that you want to insert some gradient fills.
2) Click on the object that you want to insert the gradient.
3) Next, click on the gradient option (I don't know what it's called) thingy :

4) Press F9 to bring up the gradient tab.
5) Next, alt+click on one of the gradient sliders (it doesn't matter which one).

(Sidenote : You can add more gradient sliders by pressing alt+click and moving the slider around. And to remove a slider, just drag it off.)

6) Now, click on the fill option :

...and select a colour that you want!

7) Ta-da! I chose a pimpin' purple shade! :sly:

8) You can adjust the angle of the gradient by pressing G and selecting the gradient tool, or you could just insert the angle using the gradient tab (F9). You can also chose a linear or radial gradient there.

Done!

EDIT : Last but not least, do read the help files. They're there for a reason ya know xD

"Holy Maloney! Thank you Batman!" :D
Edit: And howdo I make it not go to full white? It get so fcuking bright and ugly this way. =/

In photo shop, it would be the slider that is currently white, on the left (I'm gonna re use C18's image)

From what I remember (I don't have AI), clicking that white tab should let you adujst the point of change, and its value...

Hope that makes any sense...

here's an update:
 My god!

Edit: My Enzo is ruined! every time I open the file it says
"Can't open the illustration. The illustration contains an incomplete or garbled object description." 👎 👎 👎 :indiff:

i've been debating on it, because it looks kinda odd without it, but you be the judge.. i'm done with it :D

Looking good, Suzypuzy. Very good.

I do sort of miss the lines, mabye it would look good with only slight darker lines instead of black ones?

Lovely 350Z there Suz 👍! The headlights look pretty.. I suffered trying to get them looking right

New piece. Still unhappy with it in some bits, but i'm showing it anyways. :dopey:

EDIT :

Umm... extremely off-topic, but I didn't know where to post, so :

Inspired by The Mars Volta's The Widow. :dopey:!
I'm redoing thw whole thing now though xD
