Thanks again for hosting that challenge shotamagee and I'm sorry I wasn't able to get my final race time in. :(

Anyway, I have a Comparo of my own ready to roll if there's still interest, and I'll be running it as the producer and not competing.
Let me know if you want it to run! đź‘Ť

Round 1. Car selection and comparison to our test mule.

Our production team has received numerous complaints that people have been having far too much fun with big V8 engines, stableloads of horsepowers, sticky tyres and downforce. It's just not representative of what the common man can afford to drive and it's not exactly eco-friendly.
There has been too much speed and not enough "stupid" recently so we've devised a series of tests to indulge the usual silliness of Top Gear.

To this end you are required to acquire by whatever means necessary: buy, beg, borrow or steal with no budget limitation, an MR or RR car with a length of no more than 3500mm in stock, unmolested form. (No mods, no oil change.)
To assist you in this task, our researchers have prepared the following list:

diahatsu.gif
Daihatsu Midget '63 - tricd04
honda.gif
Honda Beat '91
honda.gif
Honda Beat Version F '92 - one inch man
honda.gif
Honda Beat Version Z '93 - BH-21
mazda.gif
Mazda Autozam AZ-1 '92 - Car-less
fiat.gif
Fiat 500F '65
fiat.gif
Fiat 500L '69

Fiat 500R '72 - shotamagee
mazda.gif
Mazda Carol 360 Deluxe '62 - AndersonG22

Subaru 360 '58

(N.B. The 1890s chariots are ineligible for this contest because they're not able to be entered in the appropriate challenges which will become clear later on.)

Post your car choice here within 72 hours of this post in order to be considered as a combatant.
It'd be nice if we had a spread of cars, not 3 types of Honda Beat & an Autozam, so choose appropriately.
Speed is not necessarily of the essence here, and some appropriate "levelling" will be done in later rounds.
You are required to keep at least 2 wheels on tarmac at all times. Please save your replays and keep them for at least 1 week after the event deadlines in case of a query. Anyone not able to supply a replay in the event of a dispute will be automatically DQ'd from that round. Replay verification should not, however, be necessary as most people are able to abide by the honour code.
There will be 6 rounds total including this one, and your cars will be rated on 11 criteria before the final total scores are calculated.

*Deadlines will be set for each challenge, and I'll be deducting 10 points per hour for anyone that misses a deadline. Consider this the virtual equivalent to points being deducted for breakdowns.*

Deadline for entry is: 11:24AM Pacific Time Tuesday Sept 13th.

Hehe, I know which car I will not be entering. I'm already driving it in a series. :)

Car: Honda Beat Version Z '93
Price: 5,074
Color: Everglade Green Metalic

HP: 63
Weight: 760 kg
Drive Train: MR

If I still had my old game save, I would of taken something completely different.

And thus fails the entry criteria on the basis that it's FF.
Not MR or RR as the entry criteria suggests. Pick again my friend. ;)
The Top Gear researcher's list in my post is everything you've got a shot at. They did that much legwork for you, bless 'em.
It's slim pickin's I know but them's yer choices.

I lit the city turbo on fire on the ocean ice so I can go ice fishing when it melts through, Im going steal the Mazda Autozam AZ-1 '92 at knife point when I find one. Some cars are rare in antarctica.

Good luck with that, especially given that the Yakuza are particularly protective of their rare cars, and that maybe 1, if that ever made it to Antartcica!

Many lower-powered cars left, and don't be discouraged... this line should have reassured all but the most resolute of doubting Thomas*'sessesesessesss. Everything on the list is in with a fair shot of winning this given the right driver and stupidity level. :D
Smallhorses

*delete where gramatically correct...

I would of prefered a Fiat or a Mazda Carol, but since you can't buy them straight up, I don't have any at the moment.

I'll take the Daihatsu Midget '63, and update with the vehicular statistics tomorrow when I'm near my PS2.

EDIT: Anyone know how/where to unlock the Midget? You can win it from the Midget II event race with the Daihatsu Midget II, but I can't seem to find either of these vehicles... If no one else can find them, I may have to have a quick car change to the Honda Beat...

RE-EDIT:
Daihatsu Midget '63
Power - 12 HP
Torque - 17.29 ft.lb
Weight - 415kg
Driver - Tricd04

The Daihatsu Midget II is available 40 times in the Used Car Lot II throughout the 700 day cycle.

Ah, I love the Daihatsu Midget II. I would rather have that then the Honda Beat. Is it ok to have two Midgets in this?

The Midget II is FR so is not eligible. You'd have to buy one and use it to win the older Midget.

I'd have chosen the Mitsubishi i if it wasn't 15mm too long, so I'll just have to use the Mazda Autozam instead. I know I have one somewhere...

Mwuhahahaha!

The parameters were chosen to just exclude that and the GSX/R, otherwise we'd have had 2 runaway winners.

am i still allowed in? i'm the one with the
honda bear version f ('92)

You are 'cos you're within the 72hr deadline.
You'll have to find your "Shift" key and use it occasionally though! Preferably at the beginning of sentences, when you use "I" to refer to yourself and for names such as Honda Bear. Wait a minute, Bear?

:P

There's about 3 hours left until the deadline and a couple of Fiats and a Subaru 360 still to be spoken for if anyone else wants in.
(I may run the Subie myself as a reference point if no-one else goes for it, but it won't appear in the official scoring list.)
Round 1 scores and Round 2 challenge will be posted when I get in from work tonight. đź‘Ť

Round 1. Scoring.

With the following motley assortment of drivers and carriages assembled we'll now reveal our first challenge.

diahatsu.gif
Midget '63 - tricd04
honda.gif
Beat Version F '92 - one inch man
honda.gif
Beat Version Z '93 - BH-21
mazda.gif
Autozam AZ-1 '92 - Car-less
fiat.gif
500R '72 - shotamagee
mazda.gif
Carol 360 Deluxe '62 - AndersonG22
subaru.gif
360 '58 - Smallhorses (Reference Only.)

Your cars will now be compared to our test car, a
citroen.gif
2CV Type A '54 which was a forerunner of the microcar in that it utilised a tiny 425cc, 2cyl engine.
It was quite big though.
Thus you'll score 1 point for every mm under it's total length of 3780mm that your car is.
You'll also be awarded 1 point for every cc your engine is under 425cc, or lose 1 point for every cc your engine is over 425cc.
Lastly, since the 2CV is a 2 cyl engine, you'll gain 10 points for every cylinder less than 2 that you have, and lose 10 points for every extra cylinder you
have above 2.

Code:
Car Stats	Length cc	cyls	Total
Daihatsu Midget '63 (2970mm, 305cc, 1cyl) 810	120	10	940
Mazda Carol 360 Deluxe '62 (2990mm, 358cc, 4cyl) 790	67	-20	837
Fiat 500R '72 (3070mm, 594cc, 2cyl) 710	-169	0	541
Honda Beat Version F '92 (3295mm, 656cc, 3cyl) 485	-231	-10	244
Honda Beat Version Z '93 (3295mm, 656cc, 3cyl) 485	-231	-10	244
Mazda Autozam AZ-1 '92 (3295mm, 657cc, 3cyl) 485	-232	-10	243

[COLOR="SandyBrown"]Subaru 360 '58		   (2990mm, 356cc, 2cyl) 790	69	0	859[/COLOR]

Thus, after round 1 scores are compiled, we have a leaderboard that looks like this:

1st
diahatsu.gif
Midget '63 - tricd04 - 940
2nd
mazda.gif
Carol 360 Deluxe '62 - AndersonG22 - 837
3rd
fiat.gif
500R '72 - shotamagee - 541
=4th
honda.gif
Beat Version F '92 - one inch man - 244
=4th
honda.gif
Beat Version Z '93 - BH-21 - 244
6th
mazda.gif
Autozam AZ-1 '92 - Car-less - 243

subaru.gif
360 '58 - Smallhorses - 859

And with those scores locked in, it's time to move on to...

Round 2.

tgc15banner5.jpg

You are required to compare your laptime to our test car, a
citroen.gif
2CV Type A '54 which also features a tiny 425cc engine with ~15HP, in this case though it's Citroen's signature "Traction Avant" or FF in GT4 parlance.
Since Sports tyres really didn't exist in 1954, you are required to fit the GT4 equivalent of the skinny, little "bicycle" tyres that the 2CV would have been supplied with: N1s.
(No other mods, or oil changes yet. It's a run as you brung challenge!)
We sent our Japanese "Stiggy-san" out at Tsukuba, left him with a battery powered shortwave radio tuned to a station playing perpetually looped whale noises as he seems to like that sort of thing whilst whiling away the minutes, to give us a benchmark laptime for comparison.
Hopefully since your cars are MR or RR like many sports cars, you should be able to better this.
(Driving aids should all be set to 0/0/0 and will stay this way for the remainder of the challenges.)
(Use GT mode, Real Circuits: Tsukuba, Practice. Please keep at least 2 wheels on tarmac at all times and submit your best laptime in this thread within 48 hours of this post.)

Deadline for laptimes is: 9:29PM Pacific Time Thursday Sept 15th.

Fiat 500R '72 10km special on N1 tyres @ Tsukuba

Best Time: 1:41.672

Notes: You only need to shift up (to 4th) and then back down (to 3rd) once a lap, and there are only three braking points, rest of the time its pedal to the medal.

Don't think I can blame the 10 second difference between me and Shot on horsepower... I guess I'm going to be racing more tonight!

I went to "World Circuits", Tsukuba and then "Race Meeting" which I hope is the PAL equivalent.

Coming out of the pits I knew in the first corner that things were going to be interesting as I found myself in a slow motion drift. In fact the rear end started sliding out very slowly two or three times per lap. By the end of lap 6 the traffic had caught up with me and it was time to call it a day. Reviewing the replay I discovered that the second lap had been my fastest at 1:25.742.

Hehehe! The joys of N1 tyres on MR & RR cars! :mischievous:

I wasn't aware there were menu naming differences in PAL, so sorry for the confusion.
In NTSC, GT Mode, entering a track in World Circuits gives you 4 options.
From left to right they are:

Practice
Track Meet
Photo Drive
Family Cup

Can you let me know what they are called in PAL-land so I can avoid further confusion? Thanks.
Practice in NTSC allows you to run unlimited laps with no traffic, so use whatever the PAL equivalent is. (Like Time Trial in Arcade Mode)
In this case if you don't have anymore time, I'll accept the laptime you've posted as it was free of interference from traffic and clean, but if you'd like to run more and post later there's still a little under 12 hours remaining until deadline.

You do, of course, have 1 less tyre & 1 less cylinder! You could blame it on that!
Interestingly enough, as you'll discover in a later challenge where tyre-wear is on, the '63 Midget is still displayed with 4 tyres on the wear-meter! :boggled:
