I'll try and get a replay, but I didn't save it. I'll rerun the time and post the replay of it.

If you do not have the replay of that run, you can make a screenshot of your lap time which you will find on the leaderboard with your ten fastest lap times. Furthermore, as long as you manage roughly the same or a better time, all should be okay.

Did you alter any settings on the car? Or did you buy other tyres? Are you using driving aids?

Round 3: Challange2: Race1

Its time to see if you can be quick but also gentle on your front tyres, which is an important skill in FWD touring car racing. Go to quick Arcade mode, and use the following options;

Race Length – 6 laps,
Tyre Wear – Strong,
Driving Assists – (optional)
Penalty – None,
Time Limit – None.
Then choose the circuit Midfield (normal direction) and grab your car. When you select it then use the following options;
Transmission (Either),
Driving Aids (Optional),
Tyres – Sports Soft,
AI cars + 5.
The quick-tune options should be left as is (no adjusting weight or power). PM me your race time and your finish position within 48 hours of this post. Feel free to use line-up juggling, to get a good field, as I want your finish position as well.

Round Two results / Grid for Race1

1. Ford Focus ST170 '03 - Magic Racer - 1:30.504
2. Renault Clio Renault Sport 2.0 16V '02 - AndersonG22 - 1:31.171
3. Mazda 323F '93 - Smallhorses - 1:32.090
4. Alfa Romeo 156 2.5 V6 24V '98 - korza493 - 1:32.342*
5. Opel Vectra 3.2 V6 '03 - BH-21 - 1:33.119
6. Honda Accord Euro-R '00 - SVX - 1:33.550
7. Peugeot 406 3.0 V6 Coupe '98 - tricd04 - 1:35.747

*Late submission

For reference - Nissan Primera 20V '01 - Shotamagee - 1:34.592

EDIT: I should have added that within Arcade Mode you should use the Single race option, that way you get tyre wear and AI opponents. It's also been bought to my attention that I should add that as the race finishes you need to be ready to note your finish time, as you only see it once, so be ready.

The magical Alfa Romeo 156 managed a 1'30.021.

I'm somewhat interested in why you felt the adjective 'magical' was necessary in submitting that time, the best I managed with that car was 1:32.560. I repeat the car should be in stock condition, no changes (not even an oil change) were allowed for the qualifying round. The Alfa should have 174HP and weigh 1320KG. If you did that time with that car in that specification, then well done nice lap.

First of all, thank you for hosting this round of the 'Top Gear Comparison'. 👍

As you can see in one of my previous posts, I managed a lap time which is only one tenth of a second faster than yours. That given, I assume that the driver in question has probably altered car settings or simply switched to a better (here: softer) tyre compound (by mistake). But let's see the replay first... ;)

~ EDIT ~ Private message regarding the 3rd Round of this challenge sent to shotamagee. 👍

Edited post 875 to hopefully make the requirements for this round more clear. Apologies if it was unclear (You'll all just have to bear with me while I get used to this hosting gig)

After the race finishes, you can save the replay and look up the total race time again. ;)

After looking over the car I used to set the 1'30.021 time, it was a car that I had brought a while ago which I think I had tuned a little bit. I am going to resit the time with a car brought from the used car lot.

New qualifying time:1'32.342

Just what I thought. Thank you for clearing this up. 👍

Round 3 results (sorry this post is so long and appears so complicated)

Submitted race times

1. Ford Focus ST170 '03 - Magic Racer – 9:15.410
2. Renault Clio Renault Sport 2.0 16V '02 - AndersonG22 – 9:17.814
3. Alfa Romeo 156 2.5 V6 24V '98 - korza493 – 9:17.821

6. Opel Vectra 3.2 V6 '03 - BH-21 – 9:36.732
7. Honda Accord Euro-R '00 - SVX - DNF

For reference - Nissan Primera 20V '01 - Shotamagee – 9:37.704

Qualifying adjustment.
As a result of starting on pole your race time should be quicker, this is the formula I used to simulate this, start position;
1st + 0.0 (seconds)
2nd + 0.2
3rd + 0.4
4th + 0.6
5th + 0.8
etc.

Race position adjustment
Also I asked for your race finish position, which I adjusted as follows;
1st + 0.0 (seconds)
2nd + 1.0
3rd + 2.0
etc.

So these are your adjusted Race1 finish times.
Magic Racer – 9:15.410 (+0.0)
AndersonG22 – 9:18.014 (+0.2)
Korza493 – 9:19.021 (+1.2) *
Smallhorses – 9:30.875 (+0.4)
tricd04 – 9:36.658 (+1.0)
BH-21 – 9:38.332 (+0.6) (+1.0)
SVX – DNF (+0.8)

* Grid penalty due to late submission of corrected qualifying time, so started from rear of grid.

Current BTCC points system
position 1st 2nd 3rd 4th 5th 6th 7th 8th 9th 10th Pole FL LAL
points, 15, 12, 10, 8, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2, 1, 1, 1, 1.

* For this competition the Pole, Fastest Lap & Lead A Lap bonus points will not be used.

So the current points heading into the 2nd Race are as follows.

Current Standings
Magic Racer – 15 points
AndersonG22 – 12 points
Korza493 – 10 points
Smallhorses – 8 points
tricd04 – 6 points
BH-21 – 5 points
SVX – 4 points

Round 4: Challenge3: Race2

Its time to start turning your cars into something that’s Worthy of the BTC title.
You’ve been given a budget of $70000 to spend on any parts that affect your power or weight, and an additional $40000 to spend on non PWR affecting parts. (brakes, suspension, gearbox etc)

Note1: The maximum (garage value) HP you can tune your car up to is 275HP.

Note2: The minimum (garage value) weight you can tune your car down to is 1050KG (The Renault Clio will need to ballasted up to the minimum weight (15,0)) (If a weight reduction puts you under the minimum weight, then tough luck you can't use it, I need to keep your ballast free, as per Note4.)

Note3: The BTCC cars of this era where normally aspirated, and as such the use of Turbo, Intercooler, Supercharger & NOS upgrades are not allowed. Also note that the tyres must be left as is (S2's), and the fitting of a wing is also not allowed for this round.

Note4: Success Ballast; The BTCC uses success ballast to try to handicap the quickest cars, this is calculated as follows;

1st position: +45 Kg
2nd: +36 Kg
3rd: +27 Kg
4th: +18 Kg
5th: +9 Kg
6th or lower: 0 Kg

So after fitting your parts, the top 5 Race 1 finishing cars all need to add ballast for Race 2. (all ballast must be carried at (x,0) (no shifting weight back or forwards).

Magic Racer + 45kg
AndersonG22 + 51kg (36 success + 15 to meet minimum weight)
Korza493 + 27kg
Smallhorses + 18kg
tricd04 + 9kg
BH-21 + 0kg
SVX + 0kg

You can adjust any newly fitted parts however you wish, and then re run Challenge 1, (Original Circuits / Midfield / Free Run). Standard OLR rules apply.
Post your total parts expenses and new power and weight values in this thread, then PM me your best time, you have 48 hours from this post to do so. Standard OLR rules apply.

If any of that was confusing query away I’ll try to answer as quickly as possible.

Round 5: Challenge4: Race3

Its time to turn your cars into something pretty damn close to a BTC, and for the reverse grid Race3.
You have been supplied with a new pair of R2 (Race Hard) tyres and a wing for your pit crew to fit before the final race.
Your settings (no other new parts, use the car parts from Round 4) can be adjusted if need be, before you head back to the track.
You will now use the Midfield (Normal Direction) Family Cup event with AI @ + 4, PM me your best time for the full race (2laps) within 48 hours of this post.

Note1: You can try this as many times as you like and you are encouraged to use the “BTCC style” of racing, this includes attempting overoptimistic late braking manoeuvres and excessively aggressive AI rubbing, just don’t complain if they push back. (This does not include excessive blocking or using the AI as your brakes) The OLR rules should still be followed.

Note2: Success Ballast; The BTCC uses success ballast to try to handicap the quickest cars, this is calculated as follows;

1st position: +45 Kg
2nd: +36 Kg
3rd: +27 Kg
4th: +18 Kg
5th: +9 Kg
6th or lower: 0 Kg

So the top 5 Race 2 finishing cars all need to add additional ballast for Race 3. (all ballast must be carried at (x,0) (no shifting weight backwards or forwards).

Magic Racer + 90kg (45+45)
AndersonG22 + 87kg (15+36+36)
Smallhorses + 45kg (18+27)
Korza493 + 45kg (27+18)
tricd04 + 18kg (9+9)
BH-21 + 0kg (0+0)

If any of that was confusing query away, I’ll try to clarify as quickly as possible.

For clarification, we are running Midfield reverse, and not normal?

For clarification, we are running Midfield reverse, and not normal?

No run it in the normal direction. (its a reverse grid, not reverse direction race)

When you've submitted your times, the Start position adjustment will be reversed.
eg. as Magic Racer finished race2 in 1st he will effectivly start race3 in last, so the reverse grid bit will only affect your start position adjustment, which I will sort out.

Clear as mud?

I'll still Edit post 892 to make it more clear.

Sorry folks. Expected to be home to run this tonight. Not going to happen. 300 miles roundtrip for the opportunity to run GT4 or hotel for a good night's sleep. Latter wins I'm afraid. ZZZZZZ.

So the points are as follows.

Race Weekend Final Standings
1st - Magic Racer – 15,15,15 = 45 points
2nd - AndersonG22 – 12,12,8 = 32 points
3rd - tricd04 – 6,6,12 = 24 points

5th - korza493 – 10,8,0 = 18 points
5th - Smallhorses – 8,10,0 = 18 points

So congratulations must go to Magic Racer and the Ford Focus ST170 '03 for claiming the top step of the podium in rather dominant fashion. Also congratulations to everyone else who took part, thank you for participating, I hope you enjoyed the challenges.

That’s me done with admining for the moment, over to whoever feels like hosting the next event.

Thank you! It was difficult to get used to the car, but it is nice to see that I managed to win this round (in such a dominant way). :D

This was one of the best comparisons so far in my opinion, so thank you once again for hosting it. ;)

I have replays of all my runs saved, so anyone who is interested in them can ask me to post them.
