I will finalize my car decision later on today once I have had a chance to check on the game.

Smallhorses - TVR Griffith 500 - 29,365Cr – 1060kg
Tricd04 - Lotus Elise Sport 190 - 42,425Cr – 670kg
Flynn77 - Audi RS 4 – 41,380cr – 1620kg
Shotamagee - Peugeot 406 3.0 V6 Coupe – 22,500cr – 1560kg
Car-less - Lancia Delta HF Integrale Evoluzione - 23,694cr – 1350kg
Korza493 - BMW 330i – 48,040cr – 1525kg

Round 1: Price - score 1 point for every 2500cr under budget you spent.

Round 2: Weight - the 205 16 Turbo is a pretty sexy car, and is mid-range as far as weight is concerned. It weights 1145kg. Score 1 point for every 50kg under, and deduct 1 point for every 50kg over.

The Scores So Far

Flynn77		Audi RS 4		+3	-9	 [B]-6[/B]
Korza493	BMW 330i		+0	-7	 [B]-7[/B]

Driving aids off?
Also, I don't think I've ever done a 0-400m run except in the licence tests. Where does one find that within GT4? (Not in front of game at the moment...) :dunce:
4WD traction is looking good for Flynn77 & Car-Less here, it's a shame GT4 doesn't have skidmarks, I'd wager my TVR would leave the biggest 11 on the track! (Not much use for a fast launch though!!!! :grumpy:)

Driving aids is at your own discretion. 0-400m can be found in the upper right-hand corner of your screen under "Power" or something similar...

I apologize if the results aren't displayed correctly. My work PC displays things a bit differently. I'll fix when I get home if there's a problem. :)

The power and something like Flynn said then go to the test course option instead of Vegas it has more options. The Vegas one only has the 400m.

Cheers! :cheers: I found it. Would you believe that in 6 years of owning this game, and 2 x 100%, all-gold, all A-spec passes through GT4, I've never noticed that bit, and never been on the Vegas strip! :guilty: Oh well, probably just as well, I loathe Vegas anyway!
PM'd my time already. I assume we were allowed multiple runs at this to send our best time, not just 1 run? The TVR takes a little practice to launch well with all the driving aids (none of which it has in real life anyway) turned off.

I have no issues with it. For someone like myself, though, who uses automatic on a DS2, multiple attempts at a dash aren't gonna make much difference. ;)

...and for me, driving an automatic with a DS2 and with 4WD it makes no difference at all. I ran the car exactly as I got it, then did a second run after I remembered to turn the driving aids off. The two times were identical.

In some comparasons like the 500hp racecars, multiple runs can make a big difference to your times, but not necessarilly your standings. A D1GP car will never accelerate as well as a Group B Rally Car, and neither of them will be as fast as a LM racer at La Sarthe.

Unfortunately, I am too late to join in. Nevertheless, I may pick up a car and try out the different rounds and see how I compare to the other participants. 👍

My Peugeot was actually not to bad, a lot better than I expected for a 1.5 tonne FWD.
The balance was really nice, I lost the rear end under brakes for Hatzenbach on my first lap, which was actually a pleasant surprise (I assumed It would just understeer under brakes), so doing that meant I was able to (a bit more carefully) use the brakes to get the nose into the corners. The engine was ok overall, though it did lose speed coming up the hill into the Mutkurve.

Also even though the front tyres were a very dark orange by the end of the second lap (this was only really a noticeable issue from the Karussel onwards), my second lap was faster than my first. (They were just starting to turn yellow starting the second lap)

Round 4: Ring

Smallhorses - TVR Griffith 500 – 15'30.286 – 30 pts
Flynn77 - Audi RS 4 – 16'51.931 – 25 pts
Korza493 - BMW 330i – 16'52.430 – 20 pts

Car-less - Lancia Delta HF Integrale Evoluzione – 17'45.018 – 10 pts

Round 5: Redux - Take what's remaining from your budget and go upgrade. Then go run the Family Cup again at the 'Ring with a difficulty of 0 and post your results publicly here in this thread along with your upgrades and their cost. You have 48 hours. Points will be awarded based on improvement at the rate of 1 point per every three seconds quicker than your first 'Ring time.

My Original Budget: 50,000Cr
Minus 42,425Cr for Car 7,575Cr Available for upgrades
Wing - 1,200Cr 6,375Cr
Oil Change - 50Cr 6,325Cr
Sports Flywheel - 450Cr 5,875Cr
Weight Reduction Stage 1 - 1,200Cr 4,675Cr
Semi-Racing Exhaust Kit - 2,900Cr 1,775Cr
Racing Chip - 1,500Cr 275Cr

New Power: 205 HP
New Weight: 649kg

Looks pretty beastly with a new wing on it... Now to make it do something!
Tuned for a 15/20 F/R downforce with the fancy-pants new wing, which will hopefully get rid of the horrible oversteer that I had experienced the first time around the 'Ring.
First Lap wasn't that bad, about 8'12.xxx, but the second lap saw immense improvement -
a lap time of 7'55.xxx!! My overall time was 16'08.139, a 50.273 second improvement.

I had 8620cr available for upgrades.

50cr - oil change (385hp -> 404hp)
1200cr - stage 1 weight reduction (1620kg -> 1425kg)
3200cr - sports suspension
2700cr - twin-plate clutch
600cr - semi-racing flywheel

After upgrades, I had 870cr remaining.

Ring time: 16'51.930
Redux time: 16'23.038

28.893 seconds improvement for a total of 9 points

Here goes...
TVR cost me 29365Cr, leaving me with 20635Cr to play with.
First stop was GT Auto for the 50Cr oil change, and then I went to browse the wings. However, I decided that I'd eschew the ugliness of an installed wing so as not to ruin the gorgeous lines of the TVR, so I toddled off to the TVR dealership.
I bought some RH tyres for improved grip & durability, installed Racing Brakes to help me take advantage of the improved grip and stop me quicker, not much was really desired in the way of power as I couldn't afford to fiddle with the gearbox, so only a Racing Chip was installed, boosting power to 355HP, and I then installed a Sports Clutch and Racing Flywheel to take advantage of the extra power and improve my driveline. I was left with 335Cr.

20635Cr Starting Budget.
-50Cr Oil Change
-10750Cr Racing Hard Tyres
-4800Cr Racing Brakes
-1800Cr Racing Chip
-1800Cr Sports Clutch
-1100Cr Racing Flywheel
= 335Cr Remaining.

Off to Nurburgring again. This time I'm pitted against a BMW M5, the Nissan GT-R Tokyo Concept, a TVR Tamora, a TVR Tuscan Speed Six and an Aston Martin DB9. Passed them all cleanly by Flugplatz and romped off into the distance, to complete lap 1 in 7'16.774 and lap 2 in 7'10.080 for a total time of 14'26.854. :drool:

15'30.286 time before modifications.
14'26.854 time after modifications.
=1'03.432 (63.432s) improvement.

New Time: 16:32.393
Improvement = 94.19 seconds

Lap times:
Lap1 - 8:12.399
Lap2 - 8:19.994

Notes: When I Re-ran the race with all the new parts, I was entered against a RX7, 300ZX, NSX, RX8 & TC ZZ-S. (Which was pretty tough for just 10 A-spec points, I won by about 15-20 seconds) With the new parts the car was very unstable under brakes until the rear tyres warmed up (which took pretty much 1 lap), unfortunately by then the fronts were starting to go off (yellow after 1 lap, (which was worse than when I used the S2's in round 4, so I knew that end of the race would be done on very red tyres)). This meant I had to change my driving style from the 1st to 2nd laps. On the 2nd lap the fronts were completely gone by about Pflanzgarten III, (R1's prob would have been a better choice) so the last few corners were pretty slow. But still, a pretty good improvement over my stock time, though prob 10-15 worth is just due to being more familiar with the car/track combo.

I was unable to start my car due to an electical fault after the first run at the Nurburgring so had to wait for a recovery truck to tow me to the tune shop. Unfortunately by the time I arrived they had already closed for the weekend!

When they re-opened the following week I had them fit these parts before rushing back to the track.

Code:
    50 Oil Change                 192hp -> 212hp
13,000 Stage 2 Turbo              212hp -> 264hp
 2,850 Semi Race Exhaust          264hp -> 285hp
 8,100 Racing Super Hard Tyres
 1,100 Stage 1 Weight Reduction  1350kg -> 1228kg
 1,200 Wing
======
26,300

23,694 Car purchase
======
49,994

Due to the delays I only had time for one run, but the racing slicks and a 63% improvement in power to weight ratio meant I was able to post a much more competitive time of 15:50.701. Still not as fast as the Stock TVR, but a whopping 1:54.317 improvement on my previous time of 17:45.018.

I then treated myself to a Nurburgring sticker from my remaining 6cr.

The BMW also had a mechanical fault (Somehow the gearbox fell out while I was driving over a speed bump) so I was unable to get to the tune shop and all of my money was spent on getting the gearbox reinstalled.

Round 6: Speed

Smallhorses - TVR Griffith 500 – 189.68mph - 30pts
Flynn77 - Audi RS 4 – 182.97mph - 25pts
Tricd04 - Lotus Elise Sport 190 – 166.72mph - 20pts
Car-less - Lancia Delta HF Integrale Evoluzione – 160.65mph -15pts
Shotamagee - Peugeot 406 3.0 V6 Coupe – 141mph - 10pts
Korza493 - BMW 330i – lost in limbo

Congrats to Smallhorses for dominating. There was a three-way tie for 2nd. :cheers:

It would appear I'm free to offer up the next challenge.

This is the Top Gear comparison Thread, & Top Gear is a British TV Show, & the premier national British Motor Racing Series is the BTCC; so with those flimsy leaps of logic in place, I present;

#14 The Top Gear GT4 BTCC Comp

Btcc_logo.PNG

The Heyday of the BTCC (IMO) was the late 90’s during the Super Touring era, so I’ve decided to run this with cars as close as possible to the ones that featured during this period (which are available in GT4).

I’ve looked up the BTCC wikipedia page and decided that the cars eligible for this challenge are as follows;

Alfa Romeo 156 2.5 V6 24V '98
Ford Focus ST170 '03
Honda Accord Euro-R '00
Nissan Primera 20V '01
Mazda 323F ‘93
Peogeot 406 3.0 V6 Coupe '98
Renault Clio Renault Sport 2.0 16V '02
Vauxhall Vectra 3.2 V6 '03 / Opel Vectra 3.2 V6 '03 (if NTSC)

The first challenge is for you to purchase your selected car and report the purchase and specifications in this thread (no altering the car in any way), you have 48 Hours from the time of this post to report back. (One car per person until all are selected)

Note1: You should make sure you have approx 150000CR available to spend and the ability to compete a challenge every 48 hours before signing up.

Well, I would join in, but the Alfa Romeo is going to win being the only true touring car set up already in GT4 on that list. The other reason is, what is a Vauxhall Vectra 3.2 V6 '03 and where does one find that?

Now if you are going to allow the cars other then the Alfa Romeo to bring them up to racing spec then you might have something.

I'm not in this because I have not time but I have to say that both the Vauxhall and the Opel are in both games. Opel and the Vauxhall are basically the same. The share most of the cars. The only one the isn't in both brands is the VXR8 but that is another subject. The Vauxhall is in the UK dealer and the Opel is in the Germany dealer. But I must be saying what you all know.

The 156 is a road car, the 155 is the DTM racer (all cars in that list are (should be) road cars). I choose the Vauxhall over the Opel, because well Vauxhall is British, and its the Vauxhall Vectra that was in the BTCC not the Opel Vectra?, but if NTSC only has the Opel then that's fine, I'll edit the opening post. EDIT: Checked game, I have access to both cars so list stays as is unless I hear otherwise, (even though both cars have the same price and stats). EDIT2: Did edit open post as NTSC systems don't have Vauxhall.

I'll get in on this, I can report I'll take the Mazda 323F.
I won't, however, be home again until Thursday night as I'm away on business.
Hopefully, since Thursday morning (for me) should be the 48hrs for everyone to announce participation, the first event that'll involve me actually being in front of the PS2 will be announced on Thursday too, and I'll be able to do something about it.
