I can verify that although PAL game has both Opel & Vauxhall, the NTSC version only has Opel under German manufacturers and nothing at all offered from Vauxhall which doesn't exist in NTSC GT4.

Re Edited the first post to address the above issue.

I'm trying to concoct something interesting for a future round of Top Gear Comparo, as it's given me tonnes to think about while I'm currently making a 150 mile round-trip at least 3 days a week for work. Sadly there's a lot of limitations within GT4, compared to Top Gear, such as the inability to have an obstacle appear in the 1000m dash, or to deign a winner in crash-worthiness when impacting a barrier at 30mph! :ouch:
I'm coming up with a cunning plan though...

Looking forward to the BTCC rounds though. Used to watch a lot of it as a youngster when I lived in England, and saw many races live at Oulton Park, used to see greats like Frank Sytner, Tim Harvey and John Cleland race there. Even saw David Coultard racing in Formula Fords way back when, and sadly witnessed first-hand the accident at Knickerbrook that killed Paul Warwick, brother of Derek Warwick the F1 driver in the '80s & '90s. :( (A part of his right front suspension failed as he braked for the 150mph fast right-hander, leaving him no steering and minimal braking, the car split practically in two, throwing him out onto the grass bank behind the armco before the back half burst into flames) Very, very sad day.

Crap!!! :ouch:

Just got called out on a trip that leaves tomorrow and does not come back till Monday night. It's better that I forfeit now so that someone else can jump in on it.

Been following this thread from the side, waiting to jump in. Dern work keeps getting in the way!

Sorry Guys.

Mazda 323F '93 - Smallhorses

Round 2: Challenge1: Qualifying

The first competitive event in a BTCC weekend is qualifying. You will take your (still stock) car to Midfield (Original Circuits / Midfield / Free Run) where you will post your best time in this thread. The only settings you can change are the driving Aid’s which you can change to whatever you like. Standard OLR rules apply.
You can post early and slowly (edit) improve your time, or you can keep your cards close to your chest and make a late charge at pole. But don’t be late as you’ve got 48 hours from this post to have a time posted or you’ll start race 1 from the back of the grid.

Looks like I got lucky here. Just got back home and booted up GT4.
In my garage is a stock Mazda 323F '93 in Sparkle Green Metallic with just 11 miles on the clock. Must've been purchased as a used 6.2mile special and in conjunction with my first GT4 game self-imposed rules, was used for just 1 race and then parked.
It's showing 176HP on the garage screen from its 1998cc V6.
Gave it a 20 lap shakedown at Midfield and it performed adequately.
I'll edit my time in here later though. ;)

*Edit* Just checked stats on the cars available, this should be awesome. Magic Racer & I who're within 1/10ths of each other in most places are in essentially the "same" car, give or take a few kg, cylinders & HP here & there. (Oh, and a few years, obviously) Scariest by far is that AndersonG22 has grabbed the Clio, which is lightest by far. :nervous:
The Accord too is scary, and maybe a PM to Car-Less to see if he'd take up the Nissan drive might prove fruitful. 💡
I also spent some of last night, albeit from a hotel room miles from GT4 concocting my devilish challenges for next Top Gear Comparo round if people are still interested. I want to bring an essence of the true stupidity of Top Gear Challenges to these forums and I have some wicked ideas... :dopey:

*Edit* Nowhere near as fast as Magic Racer's Focus, but my 323F was maxed out at 1'32.090

I can report that I have tested my car and am pleased with the lap time I got. I have also tested the Accord, the Vectra, the Alfa Romeo and the Peugeot. I was lucky enough to buy all of them within 3 minutes in the Used Car Lots.

I have not found the 323F yet, nor did I test the Clio because I totally forgot about it, but I can already say that I was very surprised when I managed a 1'31.1XX in the Vectra (although I lost 0.200 seconds in the middle sector!), which is actually slower than my own time.

The Accord was even better; but this is what I expected from the beginning on. It has the best turn-in of all the cars I tested (so far), but the torque curve seemed to fall down rapidly as soon as I shifted up into 4th gear, which means that the driver has to use the maximum RPM of 7500 to get the maximum out of it.

It is a shame I could not get the Mazda, but I will test the Clio, as well. ;)

~ EDIT ~ I just tested the Clio and let me just say that it is fast.

~ EDIT 2 ~ Smallhorses - I was able to pick up a 323F (no 10.0 km special; changed the oil and came to 176 hp, which is the exact same power output you get from your 10.0 km special) and tested it. Unfortunately, I was not able to come close enough to my own fastest lap time with the Focus (I only ran 2 laps), but the speed differences are quite minimal. I am eager to see what you are able to get out of that little car. ;)

~ EDIT 3 ~ And here are my results:

'Top Gear Comparison' #14 [BTCC - Round 2]:

Car: Ford FOCUS ST170 '03
Output power: 173 hp (Stock; No oil change)
Tyres: S2 (Stock)
Track: Midfield Raceway (Normal)
Driver: Magic Racer
Best lap time: 1'30.504

;)

Funny thing is I didnt even check the cars out before choosing, I chose it because I thought it was mid engine rear wheel drive...

I thought the same.

Silly me forgot that I'm in Pep Band and have to play for the football game tonight, so my time isn't the best.
Car: Peogeot 406 3.0 V6 Coupe '98
Stock
Time: 1'35.747

With about 6 Hours left until qualifying is over, the grid (currently) looks like this.

1. Ford Focus ST170 '03 - Magic Racer - 1:30.504
2. Mazda 323F '93 - Smallhorses - 1:32.090
3. Opel Vectra 3.2 V6 '03 - BH-21 - 1:33.119
4. Honda Accord Euro-R '00 - SVX - 1:33.550
5. Peogeot 406 3.0 V6 Coupe '98 - tricd04 - 1:35.747
6. Alfa Romeo 156 2.5 V6 24V '98 - korza493 - no time
7. Renault Clio Renault Sport 2.0 16V '02 - AndersonG22 - no time

Remember you all have until the the clock stops in 6 hours to try to improve your positions (if you wish).

I've got the fastest car out of the comparo, yet I'm one of the slowest.

*Edit* Nowhere near as fast as Magic Racer's Focus, but my 323F was maxed out at 1'32.090

I got a 1'31.972 out of it. ;)

SVX
Time: 1'33.550
Car: Honda Accord Euro R '00
Track: Midfield Raceway
Direction: Normal
Upgrade level: Stock, unoiled
Driver: SVX

198 BHP, 202 NM, 1330 KG.

Your car is definitely fast. I got a 1'30.735 without much effort. 👍

Car: Peogeot 406 3.0 V6 Coupe '98

Time: 1'35.747

I have tested the 406 Coupe, as well, and I have to say that I got a 1'32.510, but an improvement of 0.200 seconds is definitely possible.

Ran a 1'31.171

Last but not least, I got a 1'30.007 (!) in the Clio on my very first lap, thus times in the 1'29-range should be possible.

The Clio has the best power-to-weight ratio, which is 6.002. Then follows the Accord with 6.702. The 323F snatches third with a PWR of 7.058, closely followed by the Vectra with 7.153 and my Focus with 7.167. The 156 is better off with a PWR of 7.578 compared to the 406 Coupe with 8.364.

That is all from me. I have saved the replays of my own lap time with the Focus and my run with the Accord. Furthermore, I have all times saved.
