As a fan of Top Gear, I look forward to driving it. The reason behind PD including could just be to do with publicity and creating a wider fan base. Attracting those who aren't really interested in games, but love topgear might just fancy it.

I think the first competition GT Planet should do is the Suzuki Liana and the top gear track. it will be cheap to get the Liana and all you do is add the body reinforcement or roll cage option and tires and lets go,
Hopefully they have the top gear Liana setup exactly like it is on the show, so we don't have to guess, or tune it etc. I cant wait for this , its going be the slowest car, but it will be fun just to see how close to the times you can get.

Then the Chevrolet Lacetti will also have to be used in another GTP comp as that's the car all the F1 guys use. and now they have a KIA so we have 3 to race

The F1 drivers used the Suzuki. The SIARPC use the Chevy. Although now, who knows what the F1 drivers will take around the track. Probably either stay with the Suzuki or the new Kia.

;)

All real Tope Gear times are done from a standing start, I guess to compare GT5 TGTT time with real life the TT laps will have to run from a standing start.?
I never thought of that. You could do a standing start manually

And they will...
Will they? Standing starts in time trials don't make sense unless it is a 1 lap time trial. Otherwise you would finish lap 1 having started from standing start and then the 2nd lap would be with a rolling start. Unless of course you restart after every lap.

Considering PD has said there will be some wild events hosted on this track I expect we'll have the option to do official standing start laps.

I could mention many well known racetracks to friends and they wouldn't have heard of them but they all know of the top gear test track, it could be a selling point for people who don't really follow any form of motorsport.

Will there be any tie in to the show?

If you dont have somewhat of an interest in motorsport, or just cars, GT can be overwhelming, I imagine.

I think TGTT is in because Kaz himself is a fan, and he knows alot of us are too.

And its like a mutual publicity, because whenever Top Gear will be mentioned, trailing behind will be the mention of GT, and the other way around, so it's opening all kinds of doors for GT as an enterprise.

Who knows maybe one day we'll see a reality show starring KY!

Keeping up with the Kazdashians.

Yeah, the TG test track definitely presents a "bridge" to more casual racing fans. That said, PD could definitely go much farther than simply including the track in the game and nothing else. There could be a free roam mode, which would let you drive around the Dunsfold Aerodrome aimlessly (as JC would in a car review, for instance).

Obviously including the lap time board would be a welcome addition, but so much can be done with the Top Gear franchise that I can't wait to see how PD handles it. I can't even wait to see how the track itself is integrated into GT Life/Simulation mode.

I think Kaz was asked a while ago if we'd be able to compete with the Stig's time's on the Top Gear Track, and he said it was a possibility. Which I would suggest that it's true. I wouldn't be surprised to say, hope in a Tesla Roadster or a Spyker Spyder and head to the TG Test Track for a hot lap and up would pop an option to load the Stig's lap or something.

Speaking of Top Gear, someone should email Clarkson or someone and ask how they're going to celebrate the release of GT5 on the show.

That mode has already been officially announced on gran-turismo.com although it's referring to one of its online mode:

And of course racing isn’t the only thing players can do in these custom race lobbies. People can drive freely on the track and have fun, just like a day at the track. Players can try to shave their lap times down, teach each other how to drive, drift, or master advanced techniques, or just enjoy drifting together. The possibilities for these private lobbies are endless.

I meant free roaming around the entire airport; not just the test track itself, but all of the available space on the runway. Like when Clarkson tries to take a car to its top speed on the show. It'd be like one giant, open space to do whatever you want.

*Imagines crashing into stationary car at 200 mph off of drag strip*

You'll recognize me online all right...
:mischievous:

Oh. Still, the fact that past videos have shown the the runway itself is open for other use- drag racing/speed test:

And that PD has modelled what seems to be the entire Dunsfold Aerodrome do seem to suggest that they mean it when it says "People can drive freely on the track and have fun".

Since GT5 supposedly allow players to set up rules, I'm sure that will reflect in the TT ranking as well. As with any database it's possible as long as you can set the filters reflected in the rules. For example type of tires- you can limit the TT ranking to only N3 tires and see the top times from players that only use N3 tires. And the same would apply to standing/rolling start rules and I agree that for standing start it has to be one lap only which is how Top Gear Best lap time (either for SIARPC or tested car) is set. If it's 2 or more laps, the fastest lap would take precedent and that's usually not from the first lap (unless of course you crash on the second lap).

I think using that Telemetry gadget that PD unveiled a while back, It is possible that we may be able to race against real ghost laps of the Stig, right after a Time has been added to the real life leader board.

Man I can't wait to burn round the test track..

I reckon just before GT comes out they will have a show where they test it.. heres hoping anyhow.. I remember the show where Clarkson drove round laguna seca and compared his times to gran turismo it was great to see him try to match the game...

Heres hoping for a full program comparing the game to real life it would be epic

And then it'll be a race to beat The Stigs time in whatever car...

And you can bet your arse I'll be trying to beat his time in the Caterham - That lap is my all time The Stig favorite!...

I hope they won't give us a rolling start on Top Gear track. The Stig always starts from a stand-still.

i hope so too, i think even if it was just that track we should have the option... why else would they put the track in the game if you couldn't emmulate exactly what you would see on top gear. Personally to me if they put the top gear track on there and didn't let you choose between the two different starts I'd be dissapointed.

I mean I love the fact its there, but if you can't do a standing start... it's just not the same

You could always just do a lap and stop just short of the line and start the next lap from a standstill. It's not ideal but it will still work.

true true, BUT... its just not the same.. although. personally if i had to do it.. i would....

Just for the the authentic feel of doing a standing start and beating the stig..(heres hoping anyhow) :)

Yeah but it would be annoying because the top times would be acchieved with rolling start.

I hope they do have some fun challenges, as stated on the US PS3 site. Although I like watching TopGear, the test track is rather dull and not very exciting.

Just some random lines and tyres and cones to mark the racetrack and about 300 miles of run-off area may be a good idea for a TV show's purpose, but it will be terribly hard for a video game to bring any sense of speed. I'm doing 300 km/h regularly on a train, and when there's no scenery rushing by it's just like sitting in the living-room. Which you will do when playing GT5.

So, yes, nice to have, but not for racing. Unless you are American and are looking forward to crashes of course ;-)
