Any idea what Andrew Jordan is doing next year? Isn't he in an Avensis?

The same as this year. Pritek Vauxhall with a possible 'team mate' in Jeff Smith, money permitting.

Huh? I thought that BTC spec cars like the Vauxhall were outlawed from next year?

Firstly, the Vectra is an S2000 car and secondly, they're allowed one more year. I think we can expect to see the Integra once more too.

BTC regulations were ditched a while ago now, its been S2000 for the last few years.

Oh, I was getting confused, of course we move to NGTC regs now.

WTCC Chevrolet has recently revealed their 2011 livery:

Looks very good honestly!

DTM could have 6 manufacturers in by 2012? I was watching a DTM from a couple years ago and the announcer said that BMW is confirmed and that Lexus, Opel, and Nissan were all looking at entering. Lexus would obviously enter their IS F as they've already built a concept car of it. Opel would be the Astra. But...would Nissan enter the GT-R? I would assume so.

The ISF was just a concept, but the DTM's proposed partnership with Super GT could prove interesting...

It was, but it was also essentially the Opel Vectra DTM car and Lexus has expressed interest in DTM. It will be interesting to see what the Super GT/DTM partnership will produce. If you got America and Australia to join, it would be even more interesting.

But, Nissan is looking to enter the GT-R. So, the six cars would be:

1. Audi A4/R8 (If Audi can talk DTM into letting them enter the R8, they will)
2. Mercedes CL 65 AMG
3. BMW M3
4. Nissan GT-R
5. Lexus IS-F (if they enter a car, it'll probably be this...or the SC430)
6. Opel Vectra/Astra

SC430 is an unknown model nearly outside of Japan, so it wouldn't make marketing sense...

Toyota are developing an 300bhp NGTC engine for the BTCC privateer Avensis.
Apparently it will be a lightweight engine, could be an advantage for this new season coming up, so look out for it.
http://www.btcc.net/html/generalnews_detail.php?id=2240
2 or 3 BMW entries will be entered using the old super 2000 engines 2.0 normally aspirated, they are hopeful of taking positions due to there excellent reliability while the new engines may have new season niggles.

Toyota appear to be getting back into racing more now. Also, Colin Turkington has joined James Thompson in the STCC.

Actually the BMW teams are wanting to have more power because BMW germany said if they use the NGTC engines they wont help subsidize their costs as they are working on the 1.6T's for WTCC

So, I've taken an interest in the BTCC. I've watched a few races on Youtube. Does anyone know of any way to watch the BTCC in the US?

Try the ITV website, i know they show the highlights on the ITV player but don't know if they show a live stream

-> Since this is the best thread I can post it at, what is this specific Seat Ibiza?

^ Thanks! :)

Yes, it is a brand new Seat SC Trophy that will be used in the championship starting next year...

Some information can be found here.

  • 1.4 TSI engine
  • 180 hp
  • DSG gearbox with seven reports
  • Wheelbase lengthened by 13 mm to that of the classic Ibiza Cupra
  • Total weight of just 1063 kg

Just looked at Wiki on DTM. Said that Super GT's GT500 class is gonna become level with NASCAR's GT class cars (which would open the door for those cars in Super GT) and that there's gonna be an American DTM (which would be called ATM, wouldn't it?) in 2013. There wasn't word on any knew entries into DTM other than BMW...but they've got the big three German automakers now with VW/Audi, Mercedes and BMW.

Can we stop referring to DTM as Touring Cars yet? The fact that they are linking it with SuperGT and Grand-Am really should say something about the real category of racing its now in.
Pretty far gone compared to BTCC, WTCC, STCC, etc.

It was, it is no longer. I think there is a clear difference between sports cars/GT and touring cars, generally speaking, when you start sticking huge wings, big diffusers, splitters and all sorts of aerodynamic appendages on the cars, they are no longer "Touring Cars", they become "Grand Tourers".

Touring Cars do have a little bit of aero work on them, but for the most part they keep the same body shell they are meant to be based upon.

I'd also say that touring cars are meant to be cheap, relatively low horsepower and race on smaller, national circuits.

There are some gray areas like old DTM, V8 Supercars, etc. But I think its pretty clear now that calling the current DTMs or SuperGT "Touring Cars" is really a joke. They almost look nothing like the cars they are supposedly based on and they produce similar if not more downforce to GT3 cars (or even GT2 and GT1?). Compare this to the old Honda Integra thats still driven in the BTCC its laughable really to put them in the same category of racing.

See what I mean?

DTM and Super GT = Silhoeutte racers

So, I've just realised that BTCC at Knockhill clashes with DTM at Brands.. not too sure which one to visit. I really enjoyed Knockhill last year (500 mile trip :D), but I've never seen DTM in the flesh.. hmmm..

So now we can add Skoda to the list of BTCC manufacturers. :D

Welch Automotive are meant to be debuting their Proton car at Snetterton next weekend.
Thorney Motorsport are also expected to debut a Vauxhall Insignia before the end of the season too.

With Rob Austin's Audi getting faster and faster, as well as the Toyotas, the future of the BTCC doesn't look half bad. 👍

Indeed. It's getting round to being the TOCA era again, but with enough privateers to make it a bit more sustainable hopefully.

Just seen a couple of pictures of the Gen-2 Persona NGTC out for practice run at Snetterton. I'm impressed with Welch Motorsport!
