Chinese...Longbridge.....Touring car champion.....16% down over Christmas....all the eights plus one...=NGT factory cars.

Cryptic message from Chris Hodgetts (former BTCC champion) pretty much confirmes Triple Eight have Plato and works MG's for 2012.

Another one is that ES's cars are going to be S2000 cars, so Vectra's I guess.

Maybe they're counting rerun figures and web hits cumulatively.

I highly doubt that the BTCC gets the world's population + 4 billion in viewership..even if you did count views of re-runs and web views of BTCC website articles and youtube videos...

Oh, I forgot to add this to my post: [/Sarcasm]

Anybody know of any potential works teams returning in the next few years? Losing Chevrolet just leaves Honda from the looks of it.

Maybe they're adding the viewing figures for each race together.

Even then I'm not sure its possible to get to 10 billion...consider that the BTCC didn't even have regular TV coverage until the late 80s/90s and I doubt they ever had millions of viewers for each race. Before the 80s it wasn't a widely-followed sport and track-side attendance was low.

I'm pretty sure its a number pulled out of thin air.

Well, they're getting that 10.9 billion figure from somewhere - even if they are pulling it out of their backsides.

Well nothing would happen to them?

Ray mallock is one of the biggest names out there for race car building and development so I'm sure they would be fine as they are building a 2.0litre turbo ;)

I hope to NGTC spec. The S2000 cars with the NGTC engine installed like the Civic and the Leon's of STR for me ran better and most consistently than the pure NGTC cars like the Audi A4 (Rob Austin), Proton (Daniel Welch) and the Avensis' (Hughes & Wrathall).

I think if JP was to leave it would most likely be due to the fact he hasn't got the money to run with the team than the fact RML haven't committed to getting an NGTC engine builder on board and developing an NGTC specially for the Cruze because I think the way RML seem to be a driven competitive team, I really do think that JP losing funding for me would have to happen first before RML ever loose interest in wanting to win.

Most likely a typo, 10.9 million seems more realistic!

That would be my guess. "B" is pretty close to "M" on a keyboard...

10.9 million is possible. BTCC is a big series, it gets hundreds of thousands of spectators going to the races alone each year, chuck in TV viewing and any overseas territories that get it and you should be into the millions.

No doubt Chevrolet supply some funding towards RML's BTCC effort. If they're no longer willing to fund both RML's WTCC and BTCC programs, i can see how the BTCC one is the most likely of the two to see the axe.

RML would undoubtedly use Swindon's NGTC engine that many of the NGTC entries used last season. Swindon already provide the Cruzes engines for the WTCC and last seasons BTCC. I believe every Vauxhall/Opel/Chevy Touring Car in recent history has had GM-based engines designed and built by Swindon. In the same way that all Hondas have had Neil Brown engines.

Rml have been building a 2.0l turbo engine since last year
In 2011 RML Engines debuted the new RML Chevrolet FIA Appendix engine, a 1.6 litre Direct Injection turbo engine, the first designed from the ground up by the department. Used in the 2011 RML Chevrolet Cruze, the engine secured 1st, 2nd and 3rd in Qualifying on its first run in public before taking a clean sweep of the podium in the first race of the World Championship.* This car / engine combination continues to lead the Drivers' and Constructors' World Championships in WTCC.

The turbo engine concept and castings are designed for capacities between 1.6 and 2 litres, and the first iteration went from sign-off for the project to being on the dyno in less than 8 months.* This timeframe included extensive mathematical design optimisation.* Although tuned to run on petrol it has been designed to run on any current type of non-diesel fuel in both direct injection and port injection formats.

Plato has plenty of money he's sponsored by silverline and tesco which is rml's biggest btcc sponsors and Alex's dad bought him the drive (£350,000 - £400,000 a season )

Three Airwaves Ford Focuses for 2012.

This is the final question put to Olly Collins on the Motorbase website

MP: Can you confirm any of your plans for 2012 as yet, in regards to the cars and drivers?

OC: "We plan to be on the grid with three Focuses, that's about all I can say at this time. All will come out soon enough....watch this space!"

Truly underwhelming.

Had to be the Vectras. Not much else available that is as competitive perhaps?

The FIA has published the list of cars starting weight for 2012 WTCC season.

The domination wielded by the Chevrolet Cruze 1.6T during the previous season resulted in its minimum weight being increased by 30 kilos, from 1150 to 1180.

The BMW 320 TC cars was given a weight of 1160 kg, 10 less compared to last year’s 1170.

Any other model which took part in the 2011 championship will start on 1150 kg. This includes the 2.0L normally aspirated BMW 320si (-5 kg compared to 2011), Chevrolet Cruze LT and Chevrolet Lacetti, the 2.0L turbo diesel SEAT León TDi and the 1.6L turbo SUNRED León 1.6T and Volvo C30 that had been accepted by national homologations.

New models such as Ford Focus and SEAT León 1.6 TSi will be added later.

All the cars will start the season on the maximum compensation weight: 40 kilos added to their minimum weights.

I have to say that ES/Chris James are being wildly optimistic of challenging for podiums or wins, but they may get lucky in the first few races of the season while the bigger teams are getting used to and getting the most out of their new NGTC cars.
But even so, Dynojet, Welch, RAR and any other team that runs an S2000 car is also in a better or similar position.

I'm also not sure they will really benefit from the same kind of "equality" regulations this year. The regulations are still in place that the S2000 cars be balanced once again against NGTC, but when you're basing the balance on small and less experienced teams, its only natural that the amount of advantage given is going to be smaller.
While last year its quite believable that Plato was held back by the advantage of the turbos. Its less believable that all of the time loss for drivers like Chris James is due to the difference in spec. No offense to Chris or the less experienced drivers but thats just how it is.
