Guy seriously, who keeps associating it with the Supra? Toyota haven't said it was related to the Supra in ANY way. We don't even know what the engine is so how can we assume it's gonna be the new Supra? Toyota may be trying to re-invent themselves with making more exciting cars since the 86 came around, but they just say the new Supra's a W.I.P. for now.

Seriousness aside, I'd love to see a new generation MR2 as well!

People on the floor I'm told, are hinting at that. Word of mouth is how I heard about it, myself. Given it's size and rumored engine, it's obvious that is the aim.

What is the issue with this again, though?

Obviously it was heavily rumored before the Detroit show that Toyota might show a successor to the Supra, then BAM look what we get. Can't really expect people to think it's anything else.

There's also this...

Okay then ignore that last post, I stand corrected. Damn I now have to choose between that or the 86...it's gonna be a worthy successor already.

...Seriously Toyota, get cracking on a new MR2 now!

That would be nice too, we can see Toyota back in the WRC with a new GT-Four! Hell the U.S. might get lucky this time and actually get the GT-Fours =P

I don't think we ever got the ST205, either, which is the first one anyone thinks of when they hear "Celica GT-Four."

If this will be the Supra successor then I pray to God they change the design before entering production.

Especially that nose. THAT NOSE. :yuck:

I like certain elements of the concept, but i'm still not decided on whether i like it as a whole package. I think the nose gives a nod to the 'Rod Millen' Ultimate Celica, from a good few years ago.

We got GT-Fours. They were called "All-Trac" instead, but it was the same car. We just didn't get very many of them.

The ST185 Celica All-Trac was the last four-wheel-drive turbo Celica we got. If I remember correctly, the ST205 was sold only in Europe, Australia/New Zealand, and Japan. As an ST204 owner, yes, I'd like to have that GT-Four model badly.

How about a new Celica? :sly:

As long as that exists, Toyota won't be doing a new Celica. I actually quite like the 2013+ tC. Its almost as though they took the formula of the ST204 and reimagined it for 20 years later. Bigger, more room, better ride/handling balance... But a big hit to overall performance. The fact I fit nicely in the back seat and actually have headroom makes it a very interesting car. A shame, of course, that Scion won't cut you a deal to better price them. Adding the FR-S hasn't exactly helped sales.

The side profile looks absolutely stunning. It reminds me of the TVR Sagaris; Completely wild and outrageous. I like it!

Well, apparently this will hit production status as a 1.5l hybrid powered lamesauce first.

Why is Toyota FT-1 still in the title? Its not even close to being confirmed as the new Supra, its just a concept from Calty design and its only a tribute to past Toyota sports cars.

No, the 1.5L hybrid is for the entry level sports car below the the 86/FR-S. And price at $16,000 AutoGuide

As for the Supra, it will come in two different engines. …“The entry-level variant is expected to incorporate a turbocharged 2.0-litre petrol-four from the upcoming Lexus NX, while the flagship will employ a 2.5-litre turbo V6 hybrid powertrain generating more than 300kW.” 7Tune

@RACECAR It's kind of rumored to be the next Supra,

I'm glad they aren't making it into some sort of hypercar wet dream. I find myself increasingly less interested with the increasingly ludicrous prices supercars are now commanding. Nevermind supercars, actually, even just sports cars. A Porsche 911 can be optioned up well over $100,000 in base model form.

It's a Toyota, so chances are it's gonna be affordable. Even the Supra was relatively affordable back then, and with all that insane power you could get the 2JZ to belch out, it musta been worth every penny to tuners.

My only fear on the FT-1 going into production is my ultimate decision 5 years from now at a dealer choosing between it or an 86(FR-S) as the first car I buy new XD

If it ends up like this I would loooove it. After seeing this car in person (at the SoCal Toyota Museum) I've come to really appreciate the outrageous work they put into it.

As if we needed any confirmation!

I read in a Motortrend article a quote from the design leader stating that they want this car to be accessible to people, hopefully meaning low price and such. I'm hoping it's a competitor to the 370/Next Z-Car as the Supra seemed more like a rival to the Z and RX-7 then the Skyline.

So a guy who knows a guy told some AU magazine. Is that really an official confirmation?
After a mandate from Toyota CEO Akio Toyoda calling for “cars that touch the heart”, a source close to Toyota has confirmed the company is busy developing not only the FT-1 as the next Supra, but a smaller sports car too.

I'll believe it when Toyota says it will be the next Supra. (No matter how badly I want the FT-1 to be the starting point for a new Supra.)

I 've always considered this as Supra's next generation.

I wonder why they didn't named it right.
