Race Report - Round 3 High Speed Ring 500

Last Thursday, September 18 saw the 56th High Speed Ring 500 held as round 3 of the Track Stars Touring Car Championship. An improved field of 8 cars attempted to tackle this gruelling race, however issues ruled 2 of these competitors out of the running early in the night. With time constraints looming, the decision was made to split the night into 3x lap races, but only 2 of these races were run and the combined points from these 2 races decided the High Speed Ring 500 final results

Part 1

As the cars rolled around the final turn on their pace lap, it was pole sitter fullgas62 choosing the outside of the front row and leading the field around for the start of the race. MTLA1984 started alongside in 2nd, with ItzRacing and nasanu 3rd and 4th respectively. The BMW pairing of nosoks and ADDZ_074 rounded out the field after the formation lap disconnection of NW48 and the scratching of VENDALISM.

At the start of the race it was polesitter fullgas62 who took the early lead with Opel Sport Itz Racing team mate ItzRacing following in 2nd place. nasanu and MTLA1984 fought it out for 3rd place while nosoks was in 5th and ADDZ_074 was at the rear of the field.

Next time around at turn 2, it was ItzRacing who excuted a sprintcar style slidejob to take the lead from team mate fullgas62

Fullgas62 reclaimed the lead from ItzRacing and nasanu also made most of the opportunity, slipping past ItzRacing into 2nd place. fullgas62's lag issues then caused nasanu to be punted from behind by ItzRacing, spectacularly sending him into the grass. nasanu was however able to return to the track in 2nd place, before dropping to 5th behing MTLA1984, ItzRacing and nosoks

nasanu then made his way back into 2nd place, as MTLA1984 became the first of many cars caught out by the treacherous turn 6 spinning and dropping to 5th place. Turn 6 claimed its 2nd victim only a few laps later with nasanu also spinning out of contention.

ADDZ_074 was caught by the leaders and chose to pull off to the side and allow his competitors a clear path past before rejoining the race.

The battle for 2nd place heated up again, with ItzRacing's tyres underneath the Opel wearing faster than those on the BMW of nosoks. Both drivers swapped positions for a few laps with ItzRacing's low downforce setup keeping him in the fight with a good use of the draft.

Meanwhile, the first drivers were making their pitstops. nasanu was first in the pits, closely followed by MTLA1984. ItzRacing pitted a lap later and nosoks and fullgas pitted after ItzRacing.

A clever undercut and a clean, glitch free pit stop saw ItzRacing claim the lead as the front drivers all completed their stops.

ADDZ_074 was the last car to complete a pit stop. nasanu's race came to a premature finish with the Mercedes driver collecting the wall and disconnecting in the process.

At the front of the field, ItzRacing continued to lead the race, but Opel team mate fullgas62 was quickly looming in the mirrors .

ItzRacing had no answer to the pace of fullgas62 with fullgas62 moving into the lead of the race and building a handy gap in the closing laps.

At the end of the race it was Opel Team Itz Racing pairing of fullgas62 and ItzRacing claiming a 1-2 finish. fullgas62 even attempted slowing for a formation finish but was too far in from to properly execute the form finish. In 3rd place was nosoks with MTLA1984 4th and ADDZ_074 rounding out the field in 5th place.

Part 2

Part 2 saw only 5 cars line up for the restart, with GT6 glitches ensuring the starting order was jumbled. It was MTLA1984 who jumped to an early lead, with fullgas62, nasanu, ItzRacing and nosoks all closely following behind.

MTLA1984 was able to lead a lap earning the Alfa driver a bonus point, shortly before fullgas62 claimed the lead. Just behind fullgas62, ItzRacing was charging up the order moving up to 2nd and beginning to look like replicating the Opel 1-2 from part 1.

ItzRacing took the lead for a lap before settling in behind Opel team mate fullgas62. ItzRacing then became the 2nd victim of fullgas62's connection issues, running into the back of fullgas62 and crashing at turn 2, with MTLA1984 narrowly avoiding the crashed Opel.

The field was now spread out with the battle for 3rd between nasanu and nosoks the closest action on the track. That was until nosoks became the latest victim at Turn 6, handing 4th place to ItzRacing.

At the halfway point all drivers cycled through their pit stops, with nasanu the first to pit. The Alfa Romeo pit crew for MTLA1984 seemed to be servicing another unsighted car following MTLA1984's stop, we are still unsure why double stacking would occur for green flag stops!

With pit stops complete, it was nasanu who made the undercut work to his advantage on this occasion, jumping into the race lead, from fullgas62, MTLA1984, ItzRacing and nosoks.

The now infamous turn 6 was now a repeat offender, with MTLA1984 losing control and spinning out and handing 3rd position to ItzRacing, having a huge affect on the championship standings.

Now on the final lap, nasanu continued to lead. However, fullgas62 gave his best effort to bridge the gap (no pun intended through use of photos) to no avail, with nasanu claiming the 2nd part of the High Speed Ring 500, with fullgas62 a close 2nd, ItzRacing 3rd, MTLA1984 4th and nosoks in 5th place.

It was fullgas62 who took the honours in the High Speed Ring 500, once the points from both races were tallied up. ItzRacing took 2nd place, from nasanu in 3rd, nosoks in 4th and MTLA1984 rounding out the top 5. ADDZ_074 was 6th, NW48 in 7th place and VENDALISM in 8th place.

In the championship standings, it was ItzRacing who reclaimed the series lead on 311 points with MTLA1984 27 points behind in 2nd on 284. Nosoks is in 3rd place with 236. nasanu is 4th on 194 and NW48 rounds out the top 5 on 150 points.

Great race report. I might not be able to complete the rest of this series, I think my ps3 is dying. I had two triple beep shutdowns racing with you guys then again in the last round of the f1 series my race was cut short.

Its a shame because I really enjoy this series, the car is a pleasure to race. I'll test a bit tomorrow but if I don't show next round don't wait for me.

That's a

It would be a big loss to not have you there nas as you are a great racer to have in our series. Bit I do understand you're situation. All the best and hopefully you can get everything sorted out :)

Now I have a big dilemma where i am 99% certain I wont be available tomorrow night. So I wish to put forward 3 options.

Option 1: Continue on and race tommorow night without me there and @Mtla1984 will run the show
Option 2: We run Sunday Night at 7:30pm ACST
Option 3: Run a double header next Thursday.

Heres how it will work. I want everyone to respond with their choice of options. If one person objects to option 2 it wont go ahead. However, if we get a majority for option 3, then we will run with option 3 and if the majority elect to go with option 1, then that is what we will choose.

Am really keen on waiting for you for championship parity, if everyone else can wait till Sunday, I def can, otherwise I have no prob running the event the same way Itz always does.

Option2 here,........ of course if the same situation has MTLA missing I'd vote to run without him so the rest of us can catch up hahahaha... j/k buddy

There's 1 problem with that, I'm the one leading the series at the moment. Lol

I'll message ADDZ personally and we just need to wait on @bencrow_ and maybe @nasanu with their decision before I let everyone know what will happen.

Drivers Briefing - Round 4 Laguna Seca

Laguna_Seca_Map.png

Track: Laguna Seca
Laps: 3x9 Lap races
Circuit Time: N/A
Weather: N/A

There really isn't much to explain other than the basics which have been outlined in previous weeks and everyone has played by the rules so I dont need to remind anyone about anything.

@bencrow_ as a new driver I hope you have read the rules and regulations in the opening post, as that is where all the information you need about tomorrow night will be

I will be out of action tomorrow night unfortunately, so I am making the decision now to hand the hosting duties over to @Mtla1984. I am confident he will be able to run the show well tomorrow night, but I ask everyone to do their best to help make it a smooth night.

Track Limits

The only areas of question is the turn 1 kink, the final part of the corkscrew and the exit of final corner.

The turn 1 kink I suggest that 2 wheels remain on the bitumen and the car stays completely on the right side of the cone. With that in mind i dont think there is much to be gained anyway!

The corkscrew really isnt an issue as there is no time to be gained from cutting it. If you do gain a spot by doing an Alex Zanardi and cutting the corkscrew and dont hand the spot back. Then a penalty will be applied. Finally, on the exit of the final corner, im happy for everyone to use as much track as they want.

Thats all I have to say, good luck to everyone taking part tomorrow night, I hope everything runs smoothly for all of you :)

sorted mate!, bare with me everyone, will be my first running of an event but with a little luck i'm sure it will run like itz was there. add me on psn network if you haven't (MTLA1984) though i think all have and msg any questions at any point, i have the day off so will be online figuring this thing out most of the day.... ha ha ha.
Itz' original schedule will remain as is (room opening/prac - qual - races) i will also try get out to grab a mic and headset so i can relay things a little quicker than the chat bar, if anyone has sound issues let me know and i will type the msgs also.
any race incidents wished to be looked at can also be relayed to me, i will discuss with itz how he would like to proceed regarding any necessary penalties, though again, its a top series with respectful racers so i cant see there being any issues as with the first 3 rounds.
good luck all! and a welcome to our new driver @bencrow of the Alfa Romeo team

room will be open at 7.45pm est for a little extra prac if anyone wants it. add MTLA1984 on the psn as it will be a private room to keep extra pressure off the servers. lets have a blast!

Might miss this one, got too much I have to do with the (GTOR) Renault Megane Trophy Challenge and setup stuff for practice tonight after this race.

See you guys tonight

My 4 wife's are giving me a lift back home from town now & my team M8 nas is having technical issues with his PS3 so we might only have one driver representing STR tonight.

ha ha ha nice one vend, yeah def hope nas' ps can hold together for another race! glad you can make it though.
would also be great to have NW there but can understand running your own series would take a lot of attention!
see you all shortly!

It's not that it takes alot of time. It's just with the final practice tonight, the first race tomorrow and the GTOR and Spinning Arrows Club partnership, I've got alot to organise and deal with too make sure it runs smoothly. If I'm not there by 8:10pm AEST, I won't be there at all.

It turns out that I might be able to make it as my plans are still up in the air for tonight. If i can i'll jump in with MTLA still running the show and that way if needed I can jump out the room without any issues.
