This tutorial should be sticky! đź‘Ť

And boy am I glad I did! Thanks to pixeljunkynz's excellent guide I was indeed able to polish my turds to perfetion! :D Permit me to demonstrate on my entry for week 23.

Before & After

Not too shabby for a first go! I'm not completely happy with the exhaust and there's a few other little things that bother me, but that was done pretty much straight from the step by step instructions in the tut. So to anyone reading this who's thinking "I'll download the pdf later", do it now!

Not too shabby at all mate. Photoshop is pretty scary until you figure out what everything does. I haven't played GT4 in months (new job). Might fire it up again soon and get some more photos up.

Keep it up, for a first time, it's great. The exhausts do look too crisp, and they stand out heaps. It's probably the games fault, and I can't think of much you could do to tone them down. Take more photos, and keep experimenting.

Since you helped me a lot to make my pics more unique, I'll show some gratitude and post some before/after pics:P

To my eyes, they came out magical.

I only came across this today and have to say its the first time that someone has made Photoshop make sense for me, I've only been playing around for a short while and the following is my first attempt.

Many thanks

OMG such a good tutorial, really, I already had pretty cool results with photoshop, but I learned so much more now......much simpler too. Especially the softening, just adding layer, and deleting the stuff with details:D

SOOOO much thanks:)

Heres another, very slight changes, but it makes a huge difference.

I was inspired to hunt down this thread and force myself to learn more about all those spooky options I'd previoulsy left well alone :)

Glad someone brought this thread back up. Crackhoor started a thread/tut to which I've been contributing and from what i can tell most are indeed only using very basic tools in Photoshop.
Franz has a couple of links to photoshop tuts. (cant find his post anymore, it's buried in 17 pages of posts).
Either a stickied thread, "Post your PS questions here" or something similar may be useful to us all.

I've done official training in PS yrs ago and mostly use it to remove dust etc from my >100.000 (scanned) slides but now becoming a (parttime) active member in the photocomps is "forcing" :) me to use other tools to achieve better results.

Who do we petition to get a stickie. A kind and helpful moderator or Jordan?

@ Div, if you dont mind me saying, this one's a tad over the top. PS it in such a way that it doesn't look obvious and then you're on to a winner!!.

seems like u used a little of that "plastic wrap" filter.. contrast is a tad too high, but its a great shot :D

Here is an update, the changes are minimal, very subtile, but it looks less over the top.

Non non non monsieur !!!, "ze bottom wan iz too blue". đź‘Ž
If I had to choose now I'd go with the top one but the same still applies It's overcooked. Bring it back to original and apply whatever you did in gradual steps.
(and im still assuming you want comments on this pic)
Rear wing has a lightblue haze, and same applies on right front side as well.
Smoke is blue, actually whole picture has a blue haze. even the road is blue.

Lol, but hey Div, I already know you can photoshop like hell lolz....
But maybe.....posting them up here is a bit overdone:scared: Just....it's a tutorial not a gallery.

Well.....thats a tiny tiny problem.....but I can forget it without thinking too much. BTW I >DO< like your NSX:tup::D

I'm with AMG SLK on this one - although it's a great shot I think some of your shots have the overcooked style as of late, and although obviously it's what you are going for I'm sure not sure it's entirely helping the picture.

One of the hardest things in photoshop is knowing when to stop; which comes with experience. Trick is usually to move onto the next photo, or you end up with the same work-in-progress in ps for hours on end.

When it comes to colour tinting, your image is fine.

In the end, if you're happy with an image, don't worry too much about what other people think, but if you're sharing images, expect to have to defend your work. Make sure you have reasons of why you did what you did.

Note: Cause it looks good is often not a good reason.

'It makes it more dynamic'
'It enhances the sense of speed'
'It makes the grill the focus of the image'
'It sharpens it up, the original area was blurred'
'It softens it up, the original area was too sharp, looked artificial'

etc.

Anyway... was just messing round with some photos.

On a different note,
Have you all seen how ugly the 2006 Subaru Impreza WRX is?

Thanks for the compliments, I've since made a number of attempts and have learnt a lot through experience. One thing I've found is to resist the temptation to over-do effects, the more subtle each layer is the better the end effect usually turns out. Here's one of my recent attempts for the latest Advanced Photomode Comp.

Original image and Photoshop result:

I made seperate layers for the car, the sky, the road & background, then made a few layers of each for various filters & saturation changes. I smoothed out the wheel arch and fender reflections with the smudge tool and added some burn to the corners. It's not perfect and I can see plenty of room for improvement, but with any luck my next attempt will be better :)

Is uploading a file as an attachment the way to get pics to display properly here? Used to have one of these, and it was REAL fun to drive!

Hi all,

Everytime I see the composition tutorial I made in my web statistics I keep meaning to pop back and post... so here I am.

By the way, 329 Downloads of the tutorial in February 2006. I'm glad it's so popular and hope everyone is still experimenting as GT4 gets older and older.

So I was taking a M5 for a spin the other day, took some photos...

Not sure about the wheels, but they kinda suit.

Oh well, going to go rent Race Driver 3 (V8 Supercars 3), see if xbox has finally created something that can compete with GT4... no photomode :yuck:

I really like that first shot there m8!đź‘Ť

But the other 2 is just a bit of blur nothing else:scared:

Edit: You know, I learned how to clean up, but to keep detail, it's sometimes really nice if you smoothen out almost everything to keep the pixels away, and then sharpen it a bit. It seems WAY more realistic:)
