Tutorial | Composition & Cleanup

Edit: You know, I learned how to clean up, but to keep detail, it's sometimes really nice if you smoothen out almost everything to keep the pixels away, and then sharpen it a bit. It seems WAY more realistic:)

It really comes down to time, if you make a fantastic photo and you want to make it look realistic, you can invest the time. But most of my methods revolve around the fact I want to spend less than 2min on a photo.

I kinda like the soft focus look anyway, and each to their own.

:)

fwiw - it might be worth meantioning that once you get the over b/c right with levels, you can use curves to further perfect your pic. its a shame though that not all programs give you that nice graph for editing levels. photofiltre being one of them. but, pf gives you gamma tools and gimp 2 doesnt seem have that.

Before and After:

It's a crying shame that I have such a powerful tool (PS 7.0) and don't know how to use it. But thanks to this tutorial......there might just be hope for me yet!:D

Thank you pixeljunkynz!

I read somewhere, designer profesional use many +10 saturation instead of single +50 saturation. (Photoshop -> image -> adjustments -> hue/saturation -> saturation +10). So the image can chagne from
to

My preference for Div is back picture is like this, adjusting levels, saturation, and darkening only the bright part.

To make black and white, if desaturate tool look bad, I duplicate one of the color channel to new file, the above is from red. other way is by using channel mixer and select monochrome, then playing with RGB proportion.

sorry, I have to use your picture pixeljunkynz and Div is back, I don't have any great picture myself.

Personally, I think it's over-saturated. But as I've said, it comes down to your personal preference. Don't follow too many rules, photoshop a pic until it looks good to you, a lot of photos are average, but they represent a moment, or a car that means something to that person. So that person loves them.

Anyway... Photo-dump

I like the odd "off" photo...

Portrait composition tests...

Crop tests, it's hard to crop a car comfortably...

pixeljunkynz is there any plans to bring a new improved guide with new tips and tricks.

Very good tutorial. I am currently working on some wheelie pics to show it is possible to do staright out wheelies, I WOULD use your tips to help me edit the pics so they look more real and profresional.

Man, I was having a sh%t load of trouble figuring it out until now. You're my savior. I've just started working with your tutorial, but here are some pics.

Like I said, I'm quite new at this, but your tutorial is fantastic and I'm really enjoying my new hobby. I'm sure I'll get better as I go. Thank you.
