I think if both teams score evenly, Napoli go through due to more away goals. If Chelsea score one or more goals more than Napoli then they go through.

Never heard of that double goals in ET rule before .

Never really considered it before. It would make sense if the away goals rule didn't apply, given that the first leg cannot possibly go to extra time - it is therefore a disadvantage to the host of the second leg if away goals applied in ET...

ITV, on the other hand, seem to think that away goals do still apply in ET...

Now that is a crucial goal from Ivanovic, 4-1 to Chelsea, 5-4 on aggregate. And yes, according to Townsend, a Napoli goal would put Chelsea out, seems away goals count double in extra time still.

So thankful it fell to a defender and not Torres.

I'm fairly certain Extra Time is no different to the first 90 minutes in terms of away goals. By which I mean that the team with the most goals wins unless it's the same. In that case then the team with the most away goals scored at any time go through.

Is that what you meant by 'Double Goals' ?

Drogba diving. 👎

Well ITV think that's the case at least, no chance of penalties anymore either. Chelsea have to hang on.

 Ouch.

If Chelsea win, my boss is going to be insufferable tomorrow. Not least because another lecturer in our group is from Naples and has been winding him up about the first leg for the last couple of weeks..

Goals from Drogba, Terry and Lampard and a great win for Chelsea... must feel like old times. I bet AVB is choking on his cornflakes this evening.

Absolutely cracking game, love these Champions League midweek matches.

Hopefully they get Marseilles or Benfica in the last 8.

Or Apoel Nicosia, any of those 3 gives them a chance. Avoiding Barca, Madrid and Munich is a must for progression.

All credit to Chelsea, but Napoli were poor... Napoli should have made better use of substitutions. As it was, their most useful substitution was Sturridge -> Torres.

I completely agree about the mid week CL games.. So epic!!

Visca el Barca!! :D

Up next: APOEL gets Chelsea, Chelsea win the home leg 2-1, but APOEL win at their home game 1-0 and go through! :dopey:

...One Man U fan hopes. :P

Really wanted Napoli to win that. I'm a big fan of Edinson Cavani.

I'm in absolute shock Chelsea pulled off what they did. I would have bet that they would be knocked out. Amazing... and seeing 'the old guard' step up and play their hearts out (probably because they realized this is their last chance together) and seeing Terry give orders on the bench should be proof enough that young AVB never had a chance at actually coaching this squad.

Chelsea will not make the final. Once they face Barca, Real Madrid or even Bayern Munich, they will get walked over.

I'm a Porto fan, not gonna hate, but I hope that Benfica gets drawn Apoel or even Marseilles and make the next round.

I keep thinking Madrid will win the Champions League this time. We'll just have to wait and see.

I would LOVE this btw. I think the biggest competition for Real Madrid will be facing Barcelona. But Milan and Bayren Munich could be trouble as well, just not as trouble as Barcelona.

HALA MADRID!!!!
HALA MOURINHO!!!

QUARTER FINAL DRAW

Apoel v Real Madrid
Marseille v Bayern Munich
Benfica v Chelsea
AC Milan v Barcelona

SEMI FINAL DRAW

Apoel or Real Madrid v Marseille or Bayern Munich
Benfica or Chelsea v AC Milan or Barcelona

Possible El Clasico final... although my prediction is Barca v Bayern!

I think we can reasonable assume a Madrid-Bayern semifinal, as neither APOEL or Marseille are the greatest teams. Barcelona will probable beat Milan, that's the best tie of the round, and Chelsea I suspect will beat Benfica. Could have been worse for Chelsea, but path to final is not an easy one.

Don't sleep on Benfica!! Just because Chelsea finally started showing a glimmer of hope in the past few games, Benfica can in fact knock them out.

I support their rival (and significantly superior :P) club but I give credit where it is due.

It's fairly even, we are both just saying the team in our league will win. Chelsea have won every game at Stamford Bridge in the CL this season, pretty strong at home at least. Away is slightly more dubious.

I think what is important is that for both the quarter and semi finals they play at home first. When you get injury time and legs are tiring, best thing you can have is the fans around you who won't stop until the match is over (and even then....) pushing you on to the finish line.

My predictions:

QUARTER FINAL DRAW

Apoel v Real Madrid CF
Marseille v Bayern Munich
SL Benfica v Chelsea FC
AC Milan v FC Barcelona

SEMI FINAL DRAW

Real Madrid CF v Bayern Munich
Chelsea FC v FC Barcelona

FINAL

Real Madrid CF v FC Barcelona

Last time Barca and Madrid played, I heard Madrid came close to winning. But I'm not sure if that's going to repeat.

BTW, I would love to see Benfica play against Barcelona, mainly because Benfica has two ex-River Plate players, Pablo Aimar and Javier "I love da money" Saviola.

Lucas, Aimar is a top player at Benfica so is Saviola but at times he's way off his game). Lately though Aimar's age is starting to show a bit. They got tons of talent and youth and I'm not afraid of admitting that. All it will take is Chelsea to go back to their slumping ways and Benfica can easily knock them out. If Chelsea straighten up (still I think it's such a shame the older players have that much control over coaching, and AVB had now chance whatsoever to do what he was hired to do) then Benfica are in trouble but Benfica are STRONG at home at the Stadium of Light... well... except when they face my Porto of course :P

Yes, it's a shame that Di Matteo probably hasn't done anything different than AVB since taking over but look at that performance on Wednesday compared to their performances under AVB. It shows they can do it, but chose not to bother which is quite sad.

OK I'm a Chelsea so this is obviously biased but I think Chelsea on their day can beat anyone, even Barcelona. Yes it's unlikely but not as impossible as everyone is making it out to be. I've never seen Barcelona completely outclass Chelsea and Chelsea have been unlucky not to have won more games against them. The name Overbro is still fresh in the memory ...
