Only 4 3 years on from UEFA Euro "2020", the finals of Euro 2024 are almost upon us. Yes, I know.

Host nation Germany is probably among the favourites to win (again) and become the first to take four titles - as are former (and back-to-back) winners Spain. Defending champion Italy is looking to join those two on three titles apiece, while England is aiming to go one better than last time out and take a first title at the 11th time of asking.

At the other end of the scale, Georgia is attending its first ever tournament, 30 years on from its first competitive match in UEFA, while Albania and Slovenia are both in their second finals. The only former champion nation not represented is Greece, with the shock 2004 winners failing to qualify.

I have great memories of watching Italy in Rome and Hungary in Budapest during Euro 2020.... and then i wake up and remember :(

Doesn't appear to be any obvious "group of death" this time around.

I'd say group B is pretty close, Croatia, Spain and Italy, plus Albania. Group D is no slouch either.

France are tipped as well, tough group or not.

England and France have been bookies favourites in the UK for the longest time, closely followed by Germany.

Don't sleep on Portugal either, they have got a great squad.

«Googles the highest ever winning margin for an opening match in a European Championship»

(it was Italy's 3-0 win over Turkey in Euro 2020, FYI)

My four year old, unprompted - “oh, Scotland, why are they so rubbish. When’s the next Eurovision?”

Not impressed.

Well that was absolutely dire.

It was my best friend's 50th birthday last night and he had a giant '5' '0' in the corner of the room and I thought it was likely an omen of the scoreline.

Oh Poor Scotland, Tartan Army haven't got a chance against the Die Mannschafft!
Germany have high chance to made a good EURO. let's see with a more tough opponent what they do.

The small sliver of hope for Scotland is that goal difference isn't the first tiebreaker so a game they expected to lose doesn't necessarily harm their chances of sneaking through.

Two records broken yesterday, Spain's Lamine Yamal become the youngest ever player at the Euros at the age of 16 years and 338 days, the previous record holder was Poland's Kacper Kowalski at the last Euros at the age of 17 years and 246 days, to put Yamal's age in perspective Luka Modric is 38 and was 21 when Yamal was born and had already won 14 caps for Croatia.

The second record was for fastest goal, Albania's Nedim Bajrami scoring after just 23 seconds in their 2-1 defeat to Italy.

The other games yesterday were Switzerland beating Hungary 3-1 and Spain beating Croatia 3-0.

Today's action is about to start with Poland v Netherlands.

First big shock of the tournament today with Slovakia beating Belgium 1-0, before the match Belgium were ranked 2 in the world with Slovakia 48th. Belgium had so many chances and had two goals ruled out for offside and handball with the handball being very debatable, Lukaku had a bad day and it just wasn't Belgium's day really.

France just got the win over Austria thanks to a Wober own goal in an even game and Romania perhaps surprisingly beat Ukraine 3-0, Lunin in the Ukraine goal had a stinker with two mistakes for the goals.

Turkey 3-1 Georgia was a cracking game. Really back and forth with Georgia a real threat on the counter-attack. A brave performance with the goalkeeper coming up for a free kick and two corners in the dying seconds, but ended with Turkey breaking away to score in an open goal.

Turkey were the better side and scored two of the best goals of the tournament so far, and as much as the game felt like a score draw was the right result, 3-1 was a deserved final score too.

Slovakia deserved to beat Belgium. Superb passing and defensive precision. VAR was spot on, TS Belgium. Romulus Profligate on fine form.
