On that, I do think it was quite lame to put the Dacia in the episode. It was great when James finally had one, but the Dacia at the carpark was obviously a set up by the Top Gear crew. Needless to say the Dacia on the highway was most probably the exact same guy in the exact same Dacia seeing the license plates looked awfully similar to each other. It would've been oh-so awesome if that actually was a random Romanian in a random Dacia...

It was a better episode and was a not bad start, certainly better than some of the episodes from Series 13. The best road feature was fine although a bit rushed and could have had a longer ending with the road section to make it better. Also the Dacia incident was a bit of an unnecessary filler in my opinion and really that could have been used as an outtake maybe in the news section in another episode. The car's review section with James was fair.

Although having a look at next week's episode 2 synopsis looks like it might not as be as good as the first episode so we will see.

Anyway quote post below from the BBC Top Gear website.

Sunday 22nd November: 9:00PM BBC TWO - Series 14, Episode 2

Jeremy, Richard and James attempt to save the planet by building their own electric car, and then put their latest 'green' creation through the rigours of the new car testing process.

Meanwhile on the track, the battle of the continents, as Europe takes on the USA and Jeremy pits the Corvette ZR1's muscle against the finesse of Audi's R8 V10.

The Star in a Reasonably Priced Car is Hollywood's hottest new property, Frost/Nixon and Damned United star Michael Sheen.

The battle of the continents sounds good. Not too convinced about the electric car challenge.

Finally got round to watching last weeks episode, good start to the series as somone has already mentioned the episode felt very scripted, the news section doesn't cover much anymore. I liked the trip to Romania but couldn't help but feel its nothing new. Watching the Ferrari's nose perk up as Hammond put his foot down on the little drag race with the Aston on the highway makes it worthwhile as well as Jeremy's joke about gypsies shrinking hammond in the Borat voice.

I just hope there will be some cool walling next week!

I don't want to give too much away but the electric car challenge is really funny. This weeks episode is on par with last week. The producer mentioned that the shows will get better towards the end. I also read in JC's column in The Times that they were filming in Bolivia so I'm hoping for some great future episodes.

Not quite. The R8 V10 model is extremely close, track time-wise, to the ZR1, usually within a second, or in 1 instance, faster by 2.

I am expecting both of them to beat some of the hyper cars at the top though

I certainly think that the Vette will beat the Enzo

BRUAHAHAHAHA *pant, cough, wheeze* MOUHAHAHAHAHA

*cough* excuse me. I just can't see that happening.

Sometimes you just have to take a step back and enjoy the jokes for what they are rather than picking them apart.
I mean, there is a lot of TV that is scripted, the point is to take it as it comes.

I guess they could put some more effort into making it seem more spontaneous though.

I couldn't help but laugh at this email my Dad was sent from a Lancia forum

Dear Forum Members

On Sunday 29th November we understand that BBC2's Top Gear will include Lancia as a featured marque. The programme will include footage of Stratos, Integrale, 037, Flaminia, Aurelia and other historic Lancia models. We believe that the programme will present Lancia in a positive light. However, we also understand that a Beta Coupe and an HPE will appear in the programme and will suffer an unfortunate demise.

We are sure that the Top Gear team will have created a highly entertaining programme. Accordingly we urge all Beta owners to take the programme in the spirit that it is intended - a light hearted view of the world of motoring.

Very importantly, could we politely ask all Beta Forum members to refrain from posting speculative comments about the programme until the show has been broadcast. If the coverage of the Beta does turn out to be negative, we know from the experience of the Morris Marina Club (whose cars have suffered on previous TG programmes) that posting atagonistic comments on public websites can easily lead to continued ridicule of the car over a prolonged period.

Thank you for your understanding and tolerance.

Kind regards
The Beta Consortium Team

I don't think so, seeing how sad of a state it was in at the end.

Sorry, i misquoted myself, what i meant to say was as shown, not the same one

Also would like to say how wrong I was with the time for the Vette but it was damp and damp is usually two seconds worth so it would have been faster than the Enzo and the same timre as a Zonda!

I thought that was an excellent episode with many LOL moments, the "succesful" car tests were excellent, particularly the backwards one, brilliant! Loved the Zr1, much better than the R8 and the lap time was a suprise and a pleasure. Good episode.

I didn't think this episode was all that great. The electric car bit was boring and went pretty much exactly how I thought it would. And the ZR-1 v. R8 wasn't all that interesting either.

Weirdly I enjoyed the Star in a Reasonably Priced car. I found it funny how much Michael Sheen looked like Tony Blair.

Bawww

Now I'm sad for Clarkson. Also, totally dig the ZR-1's engine note. I'd buy it for that alone, and I largely can't stand Corvettes.

I think the ending with Aston Martin V12 Vantage was actually kinda sad were he said "Bye bye".

You're a season behind, mate. :P

I loved the electric car bit. One of the funniest episodes for me, honestly. :)

So did anyone get on shot with a GTP shirt? Or is that next week?

Unfortunately, no. When the ZR1 vs R8 section ends it goes back to Hammond and Clarkson standing next to the the cars. I'm dead centre in that shot but the lighting is only on the sides. My girlfriend was is disappointed aswell. :(

However my head can be seen when JC is talking about the G Whizz at the start. I'll get a screen grab later.

I am sorry to say and probably going against most people but I thought that episode 2 was a little disappointing in my opinion and is a bit of de javu like series 13. You had a good first episode and a below par second episode.

The electric car was funny and had some good sequences but it was too predictable + most parts were a little badly scripted and the sequence dragged too long covering over half of the show when it could have been done really using a quarter or a third of a show length. It was too much emphasis on joking and not enough ambitious content which makes the Reliant Robin Rocket challenge and the car boat across the English Channel much better sequences where they got the funny challenges right.

The news section is becoming just talking about jokes and stuff to banter when they should be talking more about cars and new things that come out or balance between the two.

The R8 Vs ZR1 was actually the best part along with the star in the reasonable price car. The Audi Vs Corvette sequence was interesting to watch and see the difference between them although I would like to see the cars on British roads or taken around places rather than just solely on the Top Gear track. I knew the Corvette would be faster as the Top Gear race track is mostly a power circuit and if it was not damp conditions I think it could have gone quicker.

The Martin Sheen the star in the reasonable price car was actually not bad, I think it was a not bad interview but not too much filler. Also that section made it up it in doing a good lap and his driving I admit was not too bad, I think a few less mistakes and he could have challenged Simon Cowell and Jay K.

Overall it was a disappointing episode and Top Gear could have done better, I am glad I watched it on I-Player rather than live.

I hope next week's episode does some justice. They have just released the synopsis for next week's Episode 3 so have quoted it from the Top Gear website and will add something below the quote.

Sunday 29th November, 9:00PM BBC TWO - NEXT EPISODE

On the next episode of Top Gear, Jeremy and Richard have an enormous argument, James May tries to put an end to Bank Holiday traffic jams, and heir to the throne of Wogan and 24-carat petrolhead, Chris Evans makes a return to the Top Gear track.

Jeremy and Richard try to settle a long standing debate, namely, which company has, above all others, made the greatest number of truly brilliant cars. Of course, by 'debate' we actually mean a massive shouting match with much name-calling - splendid.

Jeremy hits the track in a remarkable replica of a legendary rally car.

Meanwhile, James continues Top Gear's turbulent relationship with caravanning. This time he's trying to find a way for you to transport your beige wonder to the campsite without bringing complete misery to everyone else on the road. If you've been reading the papers over the past couple of months, you might know that James' solution doesn't go entirely to plan. But as we know, that's when the Top Gear magic really happens.

Companies have greatest number of cars debate

Ok as said in episode 2 Jeremy Clarkson is asking the nation to find the greatest car company to have produced the most decent/best cars throughout their history not the greatest car manufacture in the world is. Ok he said you can write to their website but did not supply much details so after some searching I have found an email address to contact them through the generic Top Gear.com website.

Send an email address with your thoughts to
topgearweb@bbc.co.uk

Naming the subject as: The Greatest Car Manufacture is.....

But feel free to discuss the subject here....I will have think and email them probably later on.

The producer mentioned that the majority of the Top Gear budget has been spent filming overseas episodes which will air later on in the year once they have been edited.

I think the first two have been medicore but I'm expecting some truly great stuff, comparable with the artic challenge and the episode in Vietnam.
