Chris Evans seems like a dick.

I find everything he's ever done very annoying, from back in the days of 'the Big Breakfast', especially TFI Friday, and even his radio programme... I don't find him funny at all... he's just... annoying.

To be fair though, I think he's probably quite good at what he does, and he is a car guy, so if I were the BBC, I'd let him do his thing.

edit: come to think of it, he's already been tediously tiring.. when they filmed the bit at the Race of Champions he was trying to make a big deal of it and kept saying "shhh, don't tell anyone we're here..." of course, he didn't need to address the crowd at all (most of who were freezing cold and in the process of leaving), so if they'd have wanted to keep things hush hush they could have.

How did he crash though, the hosts do the slow panning stuff, all the drifty exciting show-offy stuff is done by stuntmen.

...Dude, people crash all the time - I mean, just take a gander at a local shopping mall parking lot. Slow doesn't mean no crash.

As for Evans losing it, why do I get the feeling he was showing off his skills when the things got ugly?
I'm sure the guy can afford the repair bills, so no worries on that front.

Not while driving slow alone on a wide track they don't, unless you have no comprehension of driving.

...There was a segment with James May driving a Zonda at the TG track many years ago. I'm sure most of it was staged, but he did lose control of the car a few times when going relatively slow.

I wouldn't be too surprised if the crash was a deliberate thing as a part of a segment they were shooting.

I can just imagine the setup already.

Evans walks in, the first day. Looks at the camera and says, "Right then, first day, nervous but super duper excited. Let's get on it then, shall we?"
....Crashes doing a donut or something...
Evans: "Right, that looked easy on telly. Before I cock up even more, guess I'll hand it over to Sabine..." :dopey:

I've been thinking about wether they'll make him the funny terrible driver persona like James, can he pull it off though?

...If the casting rumor's are true, then yeah, he won't have much of a chance not being the new Captain Slow.

Sabine's nicknamed the Queen of the 'Ring. Those who follow him, know Chris can drive and talk. So that leaves Evans as the... unskilled one? The odd man out? Hmm.

What you have to remember is that the newspapers and websites WANT the show to be a failure. Why? Not because they have anything against TG or Evans, but because it gives them column inches. Humans like to read about things going wrong, failing, and the media will spin anything to try and make it seem bad. Success and things going well doesn't make a good story, so it's in their interests to make everything seem like it's a mess, failing etc. Espcially in situations like this with transitions of shows/events. They absolutely love new presenters on any show, great opportunity for column inches.

I'm not saying I know everything is actually rosy and Evans TG is going to be amazing, but you have to bear that in mind when reading reports like that.

Stig will return as well as he is owned and trademarked by the Beeb, and will also star in a car-themed gameshow starting on Saturday night..

That looks so bad. Whole principle behind The Stig is that he should never be beaten and now casual could be faster than him ? That sound wrong kinda.

Meanwhile, ITV have lined up Louis Walsh, Mariella Frostrup, Angus Deayton, Jonny Vegas, Professor Green, Colin Jackson, Vernon Kay and Jason Plato for a 5-part show called 'The Drive' which will go head-to-head with Top Gear when both debut later this year. Judging from that line-up, however, Top Gear shouldn't have too much to worry about, since I think I would rather be licking piss off nettles than watch that lot.

I dont know any of them beside Plato that I liked in Fifth gear. For someone like me both show will be on equal foot as I dont know the new TG crew either except for the drivers.

Who??? Is he from Cluedo or something?

Professor Green is a great bloke, he would have even been good as a presenter on Top Gear.

Anyone seen the Classic Car Show with Jodie Kidd and Quentin Wilson? It's not bad.

Jodie Kidd would be perfect for Top Gear.

God no. No way will I be watching that. I'm willing to give Top Gear a try before I write it off but no chance would I tune in to a program with that line up.

As well as not being able to talk and drive at the same time Evan's apparently gets car sick when doing the aggressive driving  I read it in the Metro today under the headline FLOP GEAR!

So it continues. Plenty of people get sick in the passenger seat when driven like that, it hardly makes him unfit for the job.

I believe it's the fact that he willingly took the job, knowing full well what it entailed. You can't say that he had no idea he would have to drive a car aggressively at some point.

I'm actually surprised by all this information coming to light, considering how much the media applauded Evans for being the "right guy", it seems they've done a full turn around and are out to get him and make the BBC look lile a bunch of amatuers for hiring him.

He wasn't driving, he was in the passenger seat. There is also no context for the "aggressive" driving Sabine was doing, remember when Jezza got sick doing circles in the Prodrive?

The original source is The Sun, they're hardly ones to let facts get in the way of a good story.

If he was being driven by Sabine in circles as much as Jeremy was, then I'd think it'd be understandable, but from the sounds of it, that wasn't the case.

I'm surprised no one has played the conspiracy card and noted that Jeremy writes for the The Sun and he could be influencing certain papers, like The Sun, to dig up all this information. Far fetched, I know, but given how much some people hate Jeremy (*cough*DailyMail*cough*), it's surprising they haven't gone to those lengths yet.
