Since when was a proper sportscar defined as being rwd, what if you have two sporty cars, one is rwd but handles like crap and the other fwd but handles great. Are you going to say the rwd one is more sporty than the better handling fwd car? I honeslty don't get why people place so much emphasis on the driven wheels, at least not on leser powered cars. That Mondeo ST will be a faster car than Jeremys Camaro, put it that way.

its just a bit of banter  dont take it too seriously.

Maybe the truck, the Camaro and the Caddillac definitely would not have been deemed road worthy over here.

My dad had a burgundy estate one of those when I joined this site

If I didn't like the 5.5 and 6.3 AMG engine so much, 2.5 Duratec would be my definate favourite engine

The boys at Aston Martin are doubly keen on it. ;)

Aston don't use the Duratec, the Duratec is a V6, Aston's are V8s or V12s. The Aston V12 shares some components with the Duratec engine, but it is not a Duratec engine. The Aston V12 engine was designed from scratch at Ford research in America and constructed by Cosworth technologies.

You can't weld two V6's together to make a V12, you can use certain components from a V6 in a V12, but you can't stick two V6's together to make a V12, it's not possible.

Oh, right. :dunce:

I blame Tony Blair. If he made schools teach us about Duratec engines, instead of giving out cash for honours, I would have been made to look such an eejit. :indiff:

Why?

The Camaro would have failed for a non-functioning headlight - and on all the available evidence, that alone.

Only British people have posted about this episode, when do the americans get to see this episode i want to see there reactions. lol

I'm an American and I live in Florida. :D I thought this episode was hilarious! By far the best episode ever. I'm moving to Alabama later this year by the way...

:D

Did anyone else notice the names of Clarkson, Hammond, May, and the rest of the crew in the credits?

I'm sure there was a Top Gear team who checked the cars over. There is no way they would have driven them for 800 miles without a once over. It's too dangerous for motorway driving otherwise.

All I remember is thinking the Caddilac is in the worst condition of the three. There was nothing I can recall that could say it defniely isn't going to pass an MoT, but I'd have put money on it not passing. Pity they didn't buy the car with gun shot holes in the windscreen.

I'd say that the 'knocking' sound from the front suspension and the 'clonks' when on full lock - would at least mean the front bushes were shot. That would also fail it. ;)

There was (I think)

Cletus Clarkson
Ellie May May (Not a typo)
...and I can't remember Hammond's one
The rest of the crew was called Billy Bob So 'n so (Regular second names)

daan
Is the ability of a car to carry a cow on its roof part of the MOT?

It falls into categorys:

1-499KG = A Turkey (This test isn't been conducted right now, they don't want bird flu infected cars)
500-999KG = A Sheep
1000-1499KG = A Cow
1500-1999KG = A Horse
2000KG+ = A Camel

That's if American MOT's have the same checks as British MOT's. Could also be a bearing or strut mounts.

Without inspecting it, we'll never know...

If my car moved like the Cadillac did, I'd want new shocks instantly.

I must admit though. I was very impressed at Jeremy's car. He got a working Camaro for less than £500. In the UK what decent working sports car could you buy for under £500?
Its also pretty amazing how little power you get from these huge American engines. What as it 190BHP from a 5 litre engine?

I wouldnt call none of the dashboard dials showing things as working :ill:  But I must say Clarkson did manage to find a cracker of a car..... eventhough he bought from the street were you apparently get shot and he found the last vicitms jacket in the boot!

How cool would it be to have one of those in the UK.... well maybe not when you look at the petrol bill but its nice to see an american car around once and again. :sly:

I dont even know how they were road worthy in america, do they have MOT over there (how strict is it) or can you seriously drive around in motors like that? Also how were they managing to drive around with no number plates on??

 Seriously I was laughing so hard when I saw Clarksons can comming out the the setting sun with this huge american cow on the roof..... and then I nearly fell off my chair when we swung the car round and it went thud on the ground! Brilliant moment but I sure that got some complaints..

Clarksons in car shower, ipod dock, cigarette lighter fan and about a hundred air freshers arrangement was also so funny ..... the whole film was, Im kind of glad that they scrapped usual stuff like star in the car for a wekk because it can get abit repetitive......

On another note I too thought at first that the alabama stuff was staged but when that woman started talking about you dont show that stuff in a hick town and she would get the boys I believed it! The deparation of hammond to get out of there was so funny. When the film went audio and then camera phone is was quite disturbing..... like with the rocks being thrown and the crew using coke to wash off the paint!
