Yeah, I doubt that. It usually takes sometime for the winner to come forward. That is a lot of info to come out within just hours of numbers being announced.

Well over here the policy is that they keep any winner's identity confidential, to do otherwise would be crazy.
Also, I find it strange that there is a comment from the lottery official, to have made a negative comment is very unprofessional, so from these 2 factors that must be fake, or the U.S. has serious issues.

The only time is when they hand out that over sized cheque.

I wonder how large a $640,000,000 cheque would be?

They do have to give you a large cheque when they present the winnings.

No. You can request a normal sized check. The novelty checks are just that, last I checked. All it has to be is a valid check that has the correct and relevant account information on it.

So far one ticket in Maryland said an official at the Maryland lottery. Could be more.

Can the winner remain anonymous or does he/she have to do the PR thing? Because its a lot of money!

I think no matter what the name will get out.
Once it is out just gotta move and hide for awhile.

Update: 2 more tickets have been claimed so 3 winners already.

Robin.

Not sure.

I do know the Florida Lottery publishes your name, for publicity purposes (and they probably sell that info to every "charity", real estate agent, travel agent, purveyor of wealthy goods, and investment firm); so I'd immediately set up a residence at a PO Box...so my guess is that most of that information is public record, since it's state-sponsored.

Reading other story on that site, does that the stories are not real.

Yeah the site looked weird to me anyway.

That's what my dad and I were talking about last night. Best thing to do is once everything is taken care of, get out of the country for a bit. We'd probably pack up and go to Australia for a month or so, just to let things calm down a bit at home.

Imagine loosing the paper, like it falling in a sewer. I would smack my head in the wall for several minutes!

People have actually killed themselves, so smacking your head is getting off lightly! :scared:

Australia & the U.S. are tied too closely. I wouldn't particularly feel like it, but I'd fly back to Japan. Only English spoken there are Engrish, and I'd blend in nicely. :P

So, an already wealthy person won the lottery?

What a shame.

No, the story posted above is from a satire website.

^Language warning as I have no clue what kind of content they have there.

We probably won't know who won until Monday at the earliest.

I just heard on the new that there were three winner in three states. They did say that in two of those states, you could remain anonymous(you'd be crazy to waive that courtesy), but in one of the states, you must make public appearance.

Did anyone hear about the person that won 2 in 1 day?

There is a little run down gas station here where the owners have miraculously won 3 lotteries from their own machine... They haven't been paid any of it yet as they are still under investigation.

Common scam to tell people they haven't won when they check the ticket in the machine and then claim it for yourself.
