VCRC:Historic Mini Cooper Mini Endurance - Congrats IMZIZ & TURBOGEIT!

Hi, thanks for the invitation. I've sent FR to VCRC. There's a chance I'll join this Mini-race, let you know soon.

Tomorrow I'm in a race with this car but it's fully upgraded(180 hp and 652 kg), it's a fun drive.

Hi cobrius, if you need an untuned one, I can send tomorrow?

RDAardvark
You should find a nice almond green Mini waiting for you when you get home. One careful owner and only 11 miles on the clock.

I will promptly turn it over to Bob for 200 miles of abuse!

Big welcome to everyone! :D

Excited to see some new car snoots on the grid.
And lots of the old gang back together again for some badger dodging.

This Mini Cooper, I must say, looks good in any colour.

Of course, not sure I'd want to take it on this Avanti Angolo toscana tarmac track all maxed out.
Good luck with Madrid Mini Madness Cobrius... I'll be rooting for you. :)
I had thought of signing up, but my MIL is coming over tomorrow.

I think it's pretty mad putting these cars on a toscana tarmac track.
Would've been more madness, had we decided to have the race on RMC Toscana Track: ()

I don't care what bhp you're at... that track could beat all crazy hands down. ;)
(And I'm not going to let it go either... I'm going to keep badgering people to race me on it. I like it!)

I just spent a pleasant lunch break running laps with RDAardvark in the VCRC lounge. Some crazy driver managed a 2:16.876 hot lap.

...did I mention I'm a bit crazy? ;)

RDAardvark did altogether well also. I won't say his time, but I will say given the small power difference in our cars (I had the advantage of 2HP) it may have been a dead heat.

It's always a pleasure to run laps with you, RDAardvark.

Oh, and my color is officially called 'Amaranth Pearl'.

My pleasure! I laughed when I got my phone out to record my laptimes: I'd posted two consecutive 2:17.7xx laps but then noticed that the 'Best lap' didn't match either. You then just kept that time tumbling. Really excellent driving.

I'm not sure that 2HP would make that much difference but hopefully Bob will have the car broken in before some practice later today/tomorrow.

Love the mini, I took it out for a spin on this very fun and "easy" track, and after the first 5 laps, I found that 2:17.2´s were doable on a fairly consistent basis, but, when I tried to push the car, the track suddenly showed a more dangerous face, and my first sub. 2:17's were always accompanied by crashing into something. It took a while before I could do a clean fast lap, and eventually reached a best lap of 2:16.494

I think I'll try to run a longer race on this track before next saturday, fuel/tire consumption is going to be a great factor, and worth examining, and I am not likely to push the car like this with heavy damage on the menu. Stupid badgers.

Hehe ID is a minute faster than everybody else.

Sorry watermelon: 2:16.141.
Sub 2:16 is definitely possible as I was over half a second down on my previous lap by the first split.

Up to 64HP - Seems those extra two horses do make a difference.

And I found myself a nice second-hand mini in the UCD. Only 3000 miles too!

I don't think sub 2:16 will be possible for me... :guilty:
I honestly don't see how I would get below 2:18 without seriously risking a hard-contact wall-smash.

We're going to have to do some practice races where I peek at the replay of what you guys are doing in that deceptively wide left hand turn where if I try to keep the speed up, the car sometimes winds up at least clipping the wall on the right side.
What's funny is that it seems if I'm following someone into that turn, and they hit the right side wall, I generally tend to follow them into it!! :boggled: Strangely, I watched 2 others do the same thing - follow me into that wall. :mischievous: So I'm going to be very wary of following someone closely in that area in the race!

My real problem area though is keeping momentum up enough to the peak of the hill & into that right-hander, consistently. When I get it wrong, a whole second or more is lost on my lap time.

I think the track is pretty easy... in the sense it's easy on the car... and not at all difficult to remember. I'm thinking of advertising this race as a good introduction to custom track racing. ;) It's a fun enough challenge, though in a lighter non-frustrating way. :D

Though, I'd still really like to race on RMC Toscana. Very long, and I'd never remember all of it well for sure... But I think in the right car, with damage on light... ;)
(yeah, I'm not going to let it go. heehee)

My car color is Chili Red. Ran a quick 5 laps to get a feel for the track and had my last two laps in the 2:18's with a best of 2:18.687

Mind you, my car only had 11 miles on it when I did this, so hopefully I'll be a little faster at full break in.

I just reconsidered the fact that Race Regulations includes: Damage: Heavy, which I am a strong opponent of. Please remove me from the list of drivers..sorry!

I'm sorry to see you go, of course. :(
I meant to say so earlier but I was busy with the Tournament.

I did a test on 24 laps. Went of a several times with damage (was not too concentrated in the beginning). During the second half, it went better: constant 2'16's and 2'15s.

Best lap: lap 24: 2'15"332 (and not yet perfect)

Better drivers than me should be able to run 2'14 or less.

Three observations:

1) A pitstop costs about 35 seconds.
2) I think it must be possible to run 24 laps without changing tyres
3) Impossible to continue with damage: you loose too much time in the fast corners.

We can consider 1 mandatory pit stop if anyone thinks that's a good idea. ??

I'm really bad at judging whether others will slow down on worn tires. I'm not too good with tires. And since the update - that's a big change - the tire wear.

I don't see myself getting to 2:15 ... unless I receive a treatment of monkey hormones.

I'm not really in favor of mandatory pitstop. It is rather unlikely that somebody would be able to avoid damage during the whole race. Nevertheless, if someone is able to do so while preserving his tyres, I think he/she deserves that advantage of about 35 seconds, which he probably will have lost while avoiding to take risks.

If there is no mandatory pitstop, the tactical aspect will be more important.

I'm rather undecided about mandatory pit stops, in general... I've gone back & forth with them.
I agree that the careful driver who avoids collecting damage taking risks ought to have the advantage of not having to pit.
Mostly I think of mandatory pits to have been about tire wear. And that seems to have been improved with the updates to the game... Where you can't really just drive on & on like used to be the case. And we're using Comfort Mediums for this race... quite a bit different than sports soft or slicks, I think.

So any new lap times to post?
Is someone going to beat turbogeit's 2:15.332 ?? :scared:

I'm going to be practicing over the next couple of days... so if anyone else is up for it, find me on PSN, likely already in the VCRC lounge!

In fact, someone will.. or better said: has. :)

I ran during my lunch again today, and pulled off several laps in the 2:15 range, but also ran 3 or 4 laps in the 2:14 range. The best was a 2:14.154, but I also ran a 2:14.408 and a 2:14.458 prior.

This was done in the VCRC lounge using the same settings listed on the main post.

Wow.
Those are fantastic laptimes. And I cannot see a way I can get anywhere near them. I think I should be able to get into the high 2.15s but as for 2.14? Two hopes, and one of them is Bob.

I guess so... But my hope has nothing to do with Bob Hope... and that's for everyone else in the race to crash themselves trying to get a 2:13... then I can pass them all while they're in the pits. LOL ;)

Because unless I'm possessed, I don't think I can do it. ;)

In order to join the race tomorrow, do I add VCRC as a PSN friend? :/ sorry, this is the first time I have joined an event (I have real ALL of the rules though) :)

Yes, send a Friend Request to PSN: VCRC
It will be accepted a bit later today. :D

You will find the Avanti Angolo track for this race as the shared track on the VCRC account.

You will join the VCRC lounge (click on the VCRC's coffee cup in "Community"), for the race. (As well as people practice in the lounge for various vintage events. And also just race vintage cars sometimes.)

And....

Look forward to seeing you on track! :)
