Villeneuve testing for Renault

 I might be overeacting (especially since he is only testing), but I find this the coolest thing to happen to F1. Villeneuve back in one of the top teams. Renault!

Finally we're going to have some racing for the top position in F1. No more fightin for 2nd and 3rd place!

FLAVIO BRIGATORI!
This test might lead to Jacques joining the team for the final three races of the season beginning next week at the Chinese Grand Prix.

 👍

Just wanted to mention it...

That wouldn't surprise me. Trulli has been rubbish these last few races. He doesn't seem to care and is just cruising round. He set the fastest Sector 1 time of anybody at Monza last Sunday on the last lap. What was he doing before then?

I wonder what colour his hair will be when he gets back :D?
It will be great to see him back, still can't get over how Williams dropped him after his championship victory. Although it wasn't exactly a surprise if you look at their history.

Me -> :D:D

Yay!! (Mhh.. I'll wait for the test results to get really excited about it though, but i think he won't have much trouble beating Montmagny...)

That would be great, but even with a good performance in the last three races, the only good seat remaining open for next year is with BAR, and I really don't see it happening... At worst, it could be a proper ending for his F1 career.

anyway, it would be nice to see him racing in a good car again!

I don't recall that. I remember Villeneuve choosing to leave Williams for BAR.

I should think he'd find it difficult to match the pace of Alonso with only limited testing in the car if he got the drive for the rest of the year.

Well, that's what some people thought with Damon Hill in 96...

Renault have treated him like leftovers post his last corner screw-up at Magny-Cors (which was stupid I agree), so why should he care, Renault obviously don't want him around. Of course Alonso never makes stupid mistakes (dumping it in the kitty litter or brake testing Coultard last season obviously isn't considered stupid by ole' Flavio).

Jarno is one of the top 5 drivers in F1. He just needs a team behind him.

Yeah, heard of it too, what's gonna happen with Trulli.Everyone is saying that Trulli is gonna drive for Toyota.......Villeneuve will take revenge!

Woo. I seem to be in the minority in not applauding Villeneuve's return, but the guy's got way to much of an attitude for my liking. The way he bad mouthed BAR then bailed on them completely was pretty tactless. I did enjoy seeing DRIVERONE racing in Formula 1 '97 when Villeneuve was the only driver not to agree to them using his name and likeness in the game, not sure if it happened in later versions.

Does anyone know how fast he actually went during the Silverstone test? I haven't seen any times yet.

I look forward to seeing what Fisichella can do with a Renault and where Trulli goes. Ralf's back and fast as ever so it all bodes well for F1 imo.

JV with Sauber. Big deal, it is all he deserves, if that.

I;m still yanked Renault is booting Truili for JV for the rest of the season.

Let's move onto something interesting now like who gets the open Renault seat next season. Hopefully Ant Davidson.

Nope. Fisi and Alonso are driving for Renault in 2005.

There's no times yet for Silverstone because they had issues with the gearbox while testing.

What the hell do you have against JV? He's a professional driver and one of the best in the sport. Most people can admit to that, even though they don't like him.

Timesheets from Silverstone:
01. Räikkönen McLaren 1:16.151 59 laps
02. de la Rosa McLaren 1:17.102 94 laps
03. Sato BAR 1:17.144 84 laps
04. Panis Toyota 1:17.283 104 laps
05. Button BAR 1:17.597 103 laps
06. Zonta Toyota 1:17.653 129 laps
07. Gene Williams 1:17.706 80 laps
08. Alonso Renault 1:17.706 117 laps
09. R Schumacher Williams 1:18.389 37 laps
10. Villeneuve Renault 1:18.776 70 laps <--

Snagged from planet-f1

Edit: Typo.

W00t,Raikkonen set the fastest lap ever on that track. That's 1.5 sec. faster then the previous record. That must have been a lap driven with very small amounts of fuel otherwise damn, why don't they do this during races.

I actually don't care eitherway for JV. His big mouth is entertaining but otherwise he is ho-hum. Sure he won a world championship in 1997, but he was driving a car that was the class of the field, and Schumi's stupid move only helped him out. I chalk that more up to luck and equipment than driver skill. Since that one one championship what has JV done? Nothing other than run the team created for him into the ground by being the polarizing person he is.

But he is going to Sauber. Yippie. Sure he is back in the car but in a mid pack at best team. Must be sweet coming in 10th or below all the time.

JV is not his father, who is a legend.

Sigh, I'm one of the people that is not happy with this news. Renault look like having a good team for '05 and hopefully Toyota can put their money to good use so Trulli can shove it in Flavio's face.

damn, jv is back. i dont like jv. grr. still, he will add some needed spice into the sauber team. ever since they lost theyre heidfeld/raikkonen partnership, they havent been as, flamboyant. maybe he will lift sauber from the midfield. but he aint world championship material, no matter what car he is in

I'm with you there. I hope Truili and Toyota stick it to flavio!

(Truili I think will be fine, it's the toyota I worry about)

This is a stupid idea, and probably impossible, but what if JV is going to drive a Renault for the next 3 races?

Hear me out here, would Trulli actually go back in a Renault now that he knows that JV tested for them and that his seat is gone (unless a contract obliges him to leave)? It's a very slim possiblility, but I don't see why Flavio would let JV test a Renault if he knew he was signing to Sauber...

1 second off Alonso's time in his first session with the car isn't that bad...

I doubt Truili will care. He is gone daddy gone. His perfromance the past few GP's speaks highly to this that he WANTED to be let go and mentally prepare for 05.

Like I said above JV is cheap, no one has any contract with him for 04 and he is race proven (though maybe not that fast).

Sauber is of no concern to Flavio or Renualt. They are a mid pack team, if that. I doubt JV will be involved with much testing or development after this initial test (which I assume is just to see his pace). It will be a "shut up and drive, don't ask questions" 3 races for JV.

lol, trulli has been my fav driver since the jordan days...maybe its cuz he's italian.

anyhow, i hope he does well next year.
