Not true at all. They are quite easy to get moderate amounts of power out of. You can also turbo your non-turbo motor just as easily (or easier) than changing out the entire motor. With the higher compression, you just run less boost, but since your normally aspirated power is higher, it makes the boost psi vs hp output more. In other words, 8 psi on a non-turbo motor is like 12-14 on a turbo motor. Plus you will get better gas mileage, have more power down low and have less "issues" because of less stress on all the parts. More boost equals more issues. 10psi on a stock normally aspirated 240 or 740 motor will be roughly 190-220hp depending on a few other smaller details.

ok, well maybe not very hard, but it is alot harder than most japanese cars (ie/ civics, crxs etc etc...) its one of the more dificult cars to tune due to limited parts and they are not the kind of car ricers run out to tune.

If by "tune" you mean to make look like the F&F ricer crap then yeah, there aren't many places that sell parts to fix the car up cosmetically or even the normal "bolt on" type mods.

If by "tune" you mean to make it faster, then this is not true at all. The difference is that you can not go down to your local ricer shop and buy parts for it. That is both good and bad, but mostly good. With a little research and help from the Volvo internet forums, there are people that can tell you what parts to source off of which Volvo to make your Volvo faster. It's usually a lot cheaper too. Benefits of this are it is usually a lot cheaper. Drawbacks are that you must do most of the work yourself, which some people just can't (or shouldn't) do.

Ask the ricers how much it costs them to turbo their cars. I know several people that will sell you everything to turbo your car for less than $1000, including a turbo. Ricer turbo kits are EASILY double if not triple that. Once you are turboed, the possibilities of easy hp grow very fast. A stock turbo Volvo with a safe and reliable 2 extra psi of boost will beat 90% of the ricers on the road.

aww everyone ignored me :(

we didn't ignore you, we just chose not to listen....lol, just joking. good stuff, welcome to the best club ever!

i'm not talking about how hard it is, as in the work it takes to actually do work on the car, more so on finding parts (civics have like a bazillion diffrent parts for them) and also finding stores that have those parts (this is from my experience anyway) so yeah, but I have come across some pretty nice volvos.

I'd like to get a 740 turbo at some point, but they don't run on unleaded as standard. Otherwise a 2.3 16v 740/940 will have to do. Or maybe a 940 Turbo (Run on unleaded?)

Would get a 850, but my bros already got one :grumpy:, unless I got a T-5R/R but there going up in price & most are automatics/estates 👎

In the US T-5R and R sedans are somewhat common on the used market, but they're nearly all automatic. I drove a T-5R a few months ago; the automatic transmission is superior to most, particularly considering its age.

Hi guys I have a problem with the viscous fan of my Volvo 740 gl. I don't know what kind of oil is used in it and how much? I have an oil leakage wich i eleminate.

I'd do a search at Brickboard.com, plenty of useful stuff there. (Awful site layout though.)

i'm having car troubles too, damn front brake discs on my 740 keep warping, maybe some aftermarket rotors would help? i'm getting pissed off big time, everytime I brake, the steering weel starts to vibrate...even shake!

I really want to join!!! My entire family was Volvo nuts for nearly 15 years. Started off with 2 240's, then a 740 turbo, then 850 turbo and 850 t5-r, then s70 turbo, then in my opinion the best of them all: a 99 s80 t-6(like the 2nd or 3rd sold in the southeast :) ) I'm currently in a sc400, but I have been looking at trading for an s80 t-6 very similar to my parents car.

I'm actually thinking of buying a volvo s80 t-6 as well, you can buy one for real cheap, i found a 99 for 17 grand canadian, and i know they retail for more than twice that new!

Yeah my parents back in 98 paid around 45k US for theirs. Super sexy, pretty fast, and when I would drive it, pure chick mobile :) :) ) The two biggest things I remember about it were; 1. At first glance everyone who would check it out would say it looks like a 5 series bmw, 2. The top speed I achieved in it: 138 mp/h which is pretty impressive for just 280 horsepower. The last few weeks we owned it, one of my close friends had just gotten a lancer evolution, and from a roll at 60(he jumped off the start pretty well, I mean come on evolution.) and well, I had no problems at all pulling on him, and at around 110, pulling away from him. :) :) 👍 👍 Oh yeah, am I in?

yeah, your in, you can put a link for it in your sig, (check out the first page)

yeah, I almost have about 15 grand saved up, which is pretty good (i'm 18) and once I buy one (the T-6 of course) I am going to get an IPD chip put in, which will boost the HP to 310 and the tourque to about 340!! 👍

I took this with my phone so it's not very good. My Volvo 440 XI. That's my house behind it as well. :)👍

Nice lookin vovlo man 👍

I actually just bought the volvo S80 I wanted to buy (kinda quick eh?) but they droped the price to under 17 grand, so now i'm the proud owner of a 1999 vovlo S80 t6!! :) :) now I just have to sell the 850 Turbo.... :guilty:

i'll post the pics later...

Whats up with the big yellow 1/4 panel sticker? Volvo trying to become some sort of faux-Ferrari?

The S40 and V50 on that page look like they would give a WRX a serious run for it's money, if they went into production, though.

I actually have a high repsect for Volvos since I have moved up to Connecticut. I have drive both the S60 and S80 AWD and must admit besides being a tad on the heavy side they are solid cars. I just recently took out a S40 T5 and man must I say what an experience. Although not a STI or Evo killer, a little work and a little weight shed it could hold up quite well to those monsters. I am now thinking I might lean into get a S40 T5 at one point versus the Evo or STI. : )

Looks like a ferrari logo with a moose or a deer instead of a stallion... the northern Ferrari! :P

It is.. It should be fun to see if Ferrari takes some legal action against Evolve.

Well, I'd like to join. I'm currently looking for a <86 240 for a daily driver, as my '71 Datsun 240Z isn't going to be finished soon. I missed a Turbo by one day in Auto Trader, and now I'm looking at an '82 DL coupe w/ Manual trans.

This site seems interesting: Tips on Improving your Volvo 240

Why would they take legal actions? That is just a concept car. You think it did some damage to ferrari?

Well, since Ferrari is the single most building and protective carcompany of their own brand I wouldn't be surprised to hear some complains about this.

Me, personally, I couldnt care less if it does some damage to Ferraris image. But of course it will affect the Ferrari brand, making a humorous pastiche of their logo. How it will affect it I leave to social psychologists to comment.

I'd stay away from the 2.1L '82 coupe if Volvos are reasonably easy to find in your area. They are slower than snot and not very fuel efficient with the older fuel injection. Unless you plan on doing a motor swap or adding a turbo. The 2 doors (242's) are cool and getting harder to find in good condition though.

An automatic non-turbo '85 and newer 240 will get around 24-26mpg. A manual trans of the same will get 27-32mpg. A 240 turbo will get 14-23mpg. All the previous obviously depends on condition of car, modifications and driving habits. Strangely enough, my old orange 242 got better and better gas mileage the more I modified it. Granted, it would suck it down really fast if I was driving fast, but normal freeway cruising, the gas mileage was up to 23mpg.

If you haven't already found it, try http://www.turbobricks.com also. It is generally a younger crowd there, but if you can read between the lines, there is occasionally some good info there.

There are a few pictures on my website also. Not much (any) in way of written information though.
