Wed 20:30-21:30 UK Time - CLOSED - Suspended until further noticePS4

I did some more testing today and found that pit stops cannot be set to mandatory unless the race is set to laps instead of time. The race will therefore be for 20 laps. The pit window will still run from 10 minutes till 20 minutes. Race time will be set to 12:00 with time progression of X 10 to simulate 5 hours. The race will be dry with a range of cloud options.

Subject to time I will post again before the race confirming cars and race numbers. If people haven't indicated a number preference by now, a number will be assigned.

Good Luck to all

PS be careful to maintain your starting position during the rolling start and the pit lane entrance is difficult to spot - I keep missing it despite practise!

There is some clarity for me regarding the rolling start, is overtaking before the start/finish line allowd ??
I didn't now that so I was confused at the start of the race and made a mistake on my cold tires, (my own fault of course).

Where can I find the rules that affect a rolling start ?

:gtpflag:

You need to maintain your position and keep the speed under 120km/h until the green flag.

It would have worked better with a formation lap since everyone is suddenly dumped on the tight last corner and gets bunched up. I was supposed to be in 10th but somehow Rich got held up and ended up behind me. I didn't seem to get a penalty but let him pass anyway.

It happened the same with me and @lancerevoo. He got behind me, I let him pass again before the start line. I had no penalties applied and he did get a +5 seconds penalty.

I don't know why I got 5s penalty at the start
Nice race. Well done podium.

Sorry @lancerevoo for contact, that was little too optimistic passing attempt from me, but I had to try it.

@richroo Did we made contact? I'm not sure when I watched my replay.

@John Wells Hmm - I couldn't void you as you were right on the driving line, anyway sorry for the bump.

@Friday_GTRP and I had an amazing battle for P1 for the entire race. I really enjoyed it. At the start it seemed I got the better of him and caught him off guard on the green light, but soon made a mistake and he passed me. I managed to stay close on his tail and took a gamble for a pit stop before him on lap 10. It payed off because he left the pits right behind me. All I had to do was maintain the position as it would be very hard for Friday to pass me if I kept it tidy. Alas, on lap 19 I locked up on a late braking and left him room to pass. Silly mistake, and of course Friday took the opportunity and won the race.
Congrats for an amazing race and victory.
Judging by the very close times in quali and the similar paces in the race, it's going to be an awesome championship.

I guess we should practice rolling starts together a bit more.

Here's my footage and a couple shots of the start:

Good race track is so much quicker than what it was in GT, start was better on Monday best too go when green flag comes.

I had pit-line penalty, every time I was leaving the pits when leaving pits so what was happening from Monday. Made pit stop then, got damage, then drive through penalty, so I decided retire too pits. Hope I didn't get in any ones way when driving round in damaged car.

No worries Jammy good too see you back.

You can get penalty if you driver over the pitstop entry whiteline before it's end and letting you to go to driving line - or you get at least warning if you cross the whiteline.

Hello guys,

I'm really sorry I basically disappeared in the few races.
Unfortunately it has been a very busy period, especially outside work, so I couldn't train and join. I always tried to tell you in advance but this week I forgot. I'm sorry @Sick Cylinder :-(

I hoped I could join again in this new GTE series, but now it came out I'm going to do a new training right on Wednesday evenings.
I think in June I should be able to join again, but in the meanwhile it's better to leave my spot to somebody who can join regularly.
In case I'm able to participate to single races I'll ask if any spot becomes available (and also take a look to Monday one...).

Thanks everybody, especially @Sick Cylinder for the amazing work you do to run this series!

I read too late about brake balance... shame.
You can adjust that on the fly. I've got it mapped to my wheel. I needed it on the BMW since the rears were prone to locking. Didn't stop me from hitting you though. :)

I came around the corner accelerating down the straight and your car popped into view. Now I really should have slowed but it was the straight and there seemed to be a gap on the right of the track, so I aimed for it. The trouble was that your car was heading for that gap too. Oops. Crunch. Sorry. I think you pitted next lap, I managed to go 7 laps with a wonky wheel and a bit of damage.
Never mind, there's always the next race. 👍

I always thought that modifying brake balance was not allowed as it would be considered tuning the car. I will definitely modify brake balance for the next race. It is impossible to trail brake with the standard balance on the Corvette.

I’m sorry about the accident, glad that didn’t cause you any major damage. I had vehicles passing on both sides but I was trying to get out of the racing line, the exterior or left side of the track. Everything happens in the blink of an eye and at that time it seemed the most sensible solution, getting out of the middle of the track.

It was an entertaining race in any case, loads of overtaking.

That battle up front was indeed very close!

If anyone is interested and is able to join in there's some further clean and good quality racing to be had with @Tavilha on his thread over HERE.

He's using a varied selection of cars - a different one for each meeting. I had a great race in a Formula C car at Brno yesterday for instance.

Go and take a look. There's some "faces" from Sick's races you'll recognise. It'd be great to get a few more on the grid. ;)

About changing settings like brake balance. Maybe we could discuss different settings here in this thread?
Sorry Andreas I've been meaning to answer this.. but forgot! I've swapped it over to the Wednesday thread since the car at the moment, the Lotus 40, hasn't got any settings that can be altered.

For our BMW GTE...
I moved the brake bias very slightly towards the front, 60/40 I think, to help prevent the rear wheels from locking. It may have improved during the race when the tyres had warmed up but I probably would have already spun by then! This is of course for the BMW, the other cars may differ.
I think that maybe the anti roll bar settings can also be altered on the fly but since I'd probably make things worse I leave these alone.
The GTE cars don't have ABS so this is not applicable.
They do have traction control and it can be very useful in helping those of us with er, less throttle control. I had planned to use this for the first lap only, safety on cold tyres, and then turn it off. But after my contact with DD my car's handling was affected, so I left it on. It helped. Not long after my pitstop I turned it off the TC. I only had it set to low, high bogged it down too much. (For Sonoma it will be much the same I expect. Although with the crests, drops and turns the TC might be more useful in preventing spins.)
That'll be it for the rest of the series I think.

Although they are non tuning races, which I think is great, I also think it's great that with certain cars (especially the more powerful newer ones) I can just tweak things slightly to help my driving style. I like Pcars. :)

Manual formation lap should/might work better.

We are going to try a formation lap on Monday and Wednesday with no overtaking until after you pass the start line - I hope this will tidy up the starts.

I always thought that modifying brake balance was not allowed as it would be considered tuning the car.

Personally I would prefer to have no adjustment of brake balance, but it has been pointed out to me that we can spot changes of tyres (the pit stops take longer), but we cannot spot adjustments, so I can't ban those - it would have to be just on trust. I won't be making any adjustments myself - I don't have any buttons mapped or a remote keyboard, but if we can't spot it or monitor it, it probably makes sense to allow the adjustments such as brake balance. (I remember that is how TCS crept into F1 - several teams were using it before it was allowed, but technology at the time was not sophisticated enough to detect when it was being used).

Great pictures @John Wells

that we can spot changes of tyres (the pit stops take longer)
Isn't that true with damage repair also though. I think I had a 30 second stop without tyres. Well I don't think they changed them.

A question: Without any damage, for our pitstop (without tyre wear) is it just a matter of driving in, stopping and driving out again? I wasn't sure if I needed to set anything else up. Telling it not to change etc. So many options!
Another question: I know there was a reason but I've forgotten. Why don't we have tyre wear and fuel usage enabled? It would make more sense with a pitstop involved. (Probably not that the series has now started though but for the future.)

Actually I don't know how to change tyres/types. I suppose it must be somewhere in the pit strategy menus.

Personally I would prefer to have no adjustment of brake balance
Without the brake balance tweak in the BMW I think I'd have been a danger to others. :) In the other cars I found that I didn't particularly need to adjust it! That's a multiple car type series - they're all different.*

The TCS, if you want to you can tell it's in use from the stuttering of the engine under acceleration since it is actually slowing you down. Because you haven't got the button mapped and since I think it defaults to a low setting I expect you may already be using TC without knowing it!
I'd say it's a good safety feature, for those who want it, in preventing spin outs and drivers on track.

Again since you haven't got the buttons mapped you may not know that the early era cars accurately haven't got the options to change anything. The cars that do have options do - if you see what I mean. Just like the real thing.

*On that point I meant to say it was quite good to see a wide spread of car types over the various finishing positions.

That's turned out to be a longer post than I intended!
