As you guys have been talking about shifting, I thought you might like to start the day with a classic clip of Bill Grumpy Jenkins - one of the all time greats! In 1972 he completed over 250 runs without a missed shift! The arm flapping which he does between the second and third shift was part of his timing technique.

That's quality, the cigar definitely adds to the overall picture of nonchalant skill as well.

That's really interesting, I also do an arm flap between 2nd and 3rd... although for me it's because I've hit the gate between 1st and 3rd on my g27, slipped back into neutral, buried the throttle, panicked at the cars protestations, then buried the clutch and slammed it into any gear I can find. Arm flapping like a good 'un, at that point it's equal probability i'll end up with 1st, 3rd or 5th. Perhaps I need a cigar too, might dig out one of my Cohibas for tonight's race ;)

Results from Mugello

Mugello F355.jpg

Great combo of car and track. I should have put a qualifying time in, I could have been a contender. :PAlthough I enjoyed battling my way through.

I didn't realise you had a penalty @upuaut so I was surprised when I finished ahead of you! A good little battle towards the end of the race.

Liked the car, love the track. Happy finishing fourth.
Never raced at Mugello in pCARS2 before but I know the track from
having ridden many laps around it in MotoGP 4 on the PS2.
Still the only MotoGP game I've ever really enjoyed.

Wanted to save the replay yesterday but the game wouldn't allow me.
I already knew about that problem but it had slipped my mind.

videos.jpg

All there was in there were three replays from the Monday series (totalling 90 minutes), nothing else.
I'll never understand how that makes sense for SMS to limit the players saving options
like that and not somehow utilise the PS4's memory instead or in some other way increase the replay data limit.

I mean I have 300+ GB of space left on the console, you'd think I would be allowed
to save a 30 minute race (which is a file consisting of a mere ~70MB).
The reality is that when you have only ~200MB of replays saved, pCARS2 yells 'No more!'.
It's pretty pathetic really.

There's a 1Gb limit for the pcars 2 save folder in the ps4, which includes profiles, setups, ghosts, and replays (i thinks photos are stored elsewhere). If you have Plus, you can upload the video files then delete them. Or just stream / upload to YT for later viewing.

Thanks, I didn't know all that. However I don't have anything saved other than those three Sick Monday series replays.
No photos, ghosts, setups etc.

If those three replays are ~200MB that should mean 800MB are being automatically claimed once you install
the game? I'm not that tech savvy but it's mental if that is the case.

Hello everyone, thought I'd just introduce myself. I joined the group this week in the x2 races. I'm brand new to online racing, and even had to buy the DLC to race at Mugello, so apologies if at any point I got anything wrong. I was very good though and didn't overtake anyone on the Azure circuit until after the first corner (I was then hit from behind and lost any 'progress' I'd made!)

I'm totally open to being DQ'd from the Mugello race. Basically about half way through, whilst trailing John Wells for 10th, my steering wheel came clean off the mount - I managed to control the slide off of the corner I was exiting at the time, but landed nose first into a wall (at slow speed, fortunately.) By the time I'd got my wheel back in place I'd lost 3 or 4 positions and about 20 seconds of time (maybe more.) I'll confess to using the reset to track - I figured that, had I genuinely off'd, the time I'd taken to reverse off of the wall and got back to the track would have been about the same amount of time it took to get the wheel back in position. But I know using the button is cheating.

Also, randomly, I managed to make it back to 11th and was again battling John. I think at one point he was slow on the start-finish up to T1 and I was heading round him...but I think I cut him up as I positioned for the corner. In my rear view I could see he was on the grass. Really sorry John, it was a rookie move - and not intended to be dirty at all....even if it meant your race was ruined a bit. I did slow down to wait for you to let you back past but you simply weren't there. Massive apologies.

I'm not really in it for points or anything, I'm on the road to a decent license (still 'F' presently :banghead:) Also, it would be nice to make some new friends who appreciate motorsport (in 'real' life I don't really know anyone that's as mad for it as I am..!) For everyone I know it's Premier League, League football, FA Cup...blah....blah....blah. For me it's all about BTCC, Blancpain, LMP, NASCAR, F1, etc. etc. etc. haha!

Also, what happened at the start? I think someone had a bad time getting off the line. It seemed like we were parked for a while there!

Anyways, I'm not sure if anyone watches live racing....but my local track is Brands and I'm often at Donnington. I have plans this year for Oulton Park, Cadwell Park and Snetterton too. Perhaps even Silverstone. I prefer watching GT and Touring Cars but I watch club / historic events and I'm at a track pretty much every weekend through the racing season. It's always nice to enjoy a cold beer watching racing with like minded folk!

It was great to race with you all this week, and I'm looking forward to the upcoming races!

Welcome to the group. It's nice to get someone who is new to online. You were doing very well.

I think you will find it a struggle to be more fanatical about motorsport than some of our members - so you are in good company!

A few years ago - while racing another game - I ran a feature called "Racer of the week" I am planning to re-launch this with new, more interesting and amusing questions, but titled "Racer of the month" as we will probably be playing Project Cars 2 for a long time to come!

That's great to hear - we definitely love live racing in this group and I am sure that there is a good chance you will be able to meet the odd member at different tracks in the UK and maybe abroad.

I had loads of stuff saved Jocke, game wasn't letting me save any replays or ghosts. So cleared all out, unfortunately, some the game settings. Mugello is such a great track, one of my favourite in Moto Gp games, think its a little flat in the PC2.

Shauny don't worry too much, I all ready had some damage, but it was quite big crash when you hit me. Windscreen was all cracked, steering was off, just made it too the end. I don't have anything on my screen tell me who's behind, or time, track map blue flags, came up so knew was going too be over taken.

Looking forward too next race.

@JockeP22 it's as Tav say's there is a 1Gb limit* imposed by Sony (and I think MS on Xbox) which I think is linked to the PSplus ability to upload to "the cloud". Even if you haven't got Plus you're still stuck with the limitation. It wouldn't be too bad but the trouble is that PC2's replay files are so large. A 30 minute race is around 200Mb! With, I think, a 250Mb single file save limit it's the reason that a maximum replay tops out at around 40 minutes.

So you can sort of blame Sony for the limit and SMS for their large files. ;)

*Which includes everything. Replays, pictures, TT ghost replays and game settings!

my steering wheel came clean off the mount
Oops! You must have got over excited. :P
Mine has come loose after some enthusiastic driving but I've never managed to dislodge it completely.
I'll confess to using the reset to track
I think that's allowed in those circumstances. ;)

Also, what happened at the start? I think someone had a bad time getting off the line. It seemed like we were parked for a while there!
Ah that'll be Sick's current modified start procedure, designed to reduce first corner collisions. Basically in simple terms it's don't go on green* but wait until the car in front of you accelerates then go. Hopefully this will make it single file around any tight first corners. It's better to switch off the HUD start lights and rely on the track ones since this make you less "jumpy".

*unless you're on poll!

Anyway good to "see you" Shauny. 👍

my local track is Brands

Same here! It's about 20 minutes from my place.

my steering wheel came clean off the mount

My shifter came flying off the garden chair I had it mounted to. Must have been too much arm flapping @Sick Cylinder ;) Shifting with the clutch and paddle shifters was interesting for the rest of the race.

Nevertheless I made a proper mount in work the next day, so hopefully shouldn't happen again!

Hi Shaun!

I am also a motorsport nut. I am local to Oulton so spend there most of the summer (both track days and attending racing), although I also travel a bit and might do Brands at some point this summer.

Glad to have you on board. If you come to Oulton send me a PM and we’ll meet.

I will upload a video with the F355 at the next location during the weekend. Hopefully that’ll help some people to get better times.

Won't lie...just spat my tea out across my living room slightly there! That's just a tiny bit funny, even if it is really, really bad! I wondered where you were when I slowed for you. I hadn't realised that you were waiting for AutoGlass to come out!

Again John, I'm so, so sorry.

Although I do like the fact that you appear to have gotten your own back with your selection of screenshots there...

Pic #1: Shauny nose planting the wall...
Pic #2: Shauny trying to get off the gravel with force feedback wheel in lap and not attached to anything solid
Pic #3: Shauny completely wiping me out at T1
...and so on!

Tell you what though, when I take someone out I do it properly. That's some serious two-wheel driving you were doing there!

People tell me that force feedback in PC2 isn't all that great. I tell you sincerely my wheel, which was re-attached at that point, didn't even register the contact.

@JockeP22 Ah that'll be Sick's current modified start procedure, designed to reduce first corner collisions.

Ah! OK, I've misunderstood some rules somewhere. I thought that rule was for the point-to-point road races, rather than at the circuits. Thanks for the heads up, I'll remember that for future races.

IBZ6L20VT - Nice one mate! I fully plan on trying to get to Oulton this season - will totally let you know!
rj5992 - Niiiiiiiiice! 20 minutes away eh? I'm about 30 minutes! I'm at the Winter Rally the weekend after next! Maybe I'll see you there?

...and r.e.: the YouTube post about Hankook 24h of Dubai, isn't that THE best thing about motorsport? Whilst all my other mates are moaning about Sky / BT and football TV rights...I'm sitting there smug in the knowledge that I can pretty much watch everything I want on a combination of ITV4 and YouTube. I'm watching a re-run of the NASCAR Cup Series @ Bristol Motor Speedway right at this moment....it's awesome. Even WEC is a snip with a EuroSport sub!

Thanks for the warm welcome guys....really appreciate it.:gtpflag:

Important Information for all Wednesday Racers ! (Series starts 30th Jan)

Please check the following table carefully. I have tried not to make any mistakes such as listing someone in 2 different teams, but it is very easy to make errors.

It is our first Blue Riband event of 2019 inspired by the end of season sports car races which took place in Nassau Bahamas each December from 1954-1966. The idea was to extend the tourist season and fill the hotels with wealthy people. Some incredible cars and the World's finest drivers competed, enjoying sun, sea, sand and parties! Stirling Moss enjoyed himself so much that he built himself a holiday home in Nassau and in 1958 when his fees could not be agreed, he helped out in the pits!
Nassau Poster 4 Stirling Moss 1958.jpg

I have split you into 3 teams of 5 drivers, each of which is headed by a Captain and Vice-Captain. Each team is named after a great driver who competed in the races.

There is also a Reserve Team "Moss" Captained by Simbalora @AndreasR Vice-Captain @ShaunyB

If anyone doesn't have the cars needed please let me know.

NB the AM drivers use the Lotus 40 for all 9 rounds and other drivers use it for 3 rounds - when this car is used you must make a pitstop between 10 and 20 minutes into the race. The other cars will not be making pitstops as they are slower.

NB The Lotus 40 is being used as a substitute for other mid-engine cars which participated at Nassau such as the Chaparral 2A, McLaren M1A and B, Hussein 1 and Lotus 30. The Aston Martin DBR1 is being used as a substitute for the DBR2 (a similar bodied, but larger engine car built by Astons on ex Le Mans Lagonda chassis).

If you are not planning to participate please let me know asap so that I can line up some other drivers for the teams - thank you guys!

Wed Nassau Round 0.jpg

I've put in a few laps and after Mugello the circuit does seem a little cramped and flat. Hopefully it will grow on me though.

Anyway from John's info...
"It was debatable whether the new Turn One really did aid overtaking, but it certainly increased the chances of first corner pile ups as cars funnelled from high speed into the slow and narrow section of track. Carnage often ensues at race starts and there are few events where all vehicles emerge unscathed."
I'd agree - and that's in real life!

So it does beg the question: where shall we "start" racing from? If you watch David's video above you'll see a overhead gantry towards the end of the straight prior to Hasseroder corner, that seems a good point to me. The back of the field should have just about cleared turn one and Hotel corner by then.

Thoughts?

And on starts...
Ah! OK, I've misunderstood some rules somewhere.
Don't worry about it. You're certainly not the first to be caught out and probably not the last. :)

No results this time?

I really enjoyed the race again. What a car!

Made a minor mistake when leading and then it was a really entertaining chase of the guys on top.

Had a minor niggle with @hasslemoff, where he was on the exterior and I thought I had already passed him, as the arrow was not red. From my point of view it was just paint trading, as we were pretty much running parallel. If it was more than this, I apologise.

@hasslemoff is missing because of getting DCed. 3rd place.
Still waiting for the replay of that awesome lap in practice!

Quali - forgot the screenshot. Lancer got pole
