Week 17: Mazdas On Trial...

About to go to sleep here but I wanted to make a comment regarding the off-track areas. ;)

Concrete and whatnot past the rumbles...

I am hesitant to say much about that since there are so many exceptions and rules with this new game. In GT3 we knew every little spot and had no trouble with what was "off" and what was "on."
Now in this new age of GT4 and tracks like the ring... :scared:
I just don't know what to do.

For now consider all concrete portions of the track fair game.

This will be under review (since I just don't know the track that well).

I am sure you will all do your best to run clean laps. 👍

Although that concrete buffer on the outside of the rumble of turn 1 could be a real helper this week. ;)

Talk to you all in the morning after I've picked up on my "fastest street car testing." :)
Till then,
Later. :D

Well im lovin this!

Fantastic, just what i wanted.

Count me in.

:mischievous:👍

This combo is perfect. 👍

Run quite a few laps in all the car options and found the RX7 Spirit to be the best of the bunch.

Anyways, here are my splits:

T1: 0'18.017
T2: 0'48.364
T3: 1'11.428

Go Spirit Go! :D

60 laps later...

Yep, the Spirit has served me the best so far, just dropped T3 to:

1:13.443

And I know where I can make improvements...I think I've already taken every corner perfectly so far (for me at least), just not all in the same lap! ;)

Loving this race, love the track (always have) and love the car (gaining a new appreciation for it)

But it's time for bed...

wow, what a difference, after two weeks into racing cars, now i have to remember to brake, and then turn, just learning again to take it easy... momentum has never been so crucial like in this one... i see people having 1´08 easilly (for those top div 1 drivers, of course)

anyway, so far i only did 15 laps with the Spirit R, and improved my time almost everytime... just sad to see that dirty laps here are always happening... more cautious here than in the previous 2 weeks... later tonight i´ll try to get to 1´09 on T3...

so far...

T1: 17´587
T2: 47´947
T3: 1´11´322

plenty of room for improvement, i always take some time to get used to the combo, specially if its a car that i don´t drive... i only had the race versions of the RX-7 and RX-8 until now...

I've done a few laps last night with the Bratwurst... my best T3 so far was 1'18.something... :( But, again, just done a few laps and tried a few cars. Can't remember if I tried this holy spirit everybody is talking about. I was trying, also, to get me all silvers in I-B to test the prize RX8 you get in this one... is it worth it?

Doesnt sound like it ppucci.

I would say the RX-7 spirit R is gonna be the fastest choice this week, as its the newest, most hp friendly car.

In my experience, the cars with an '01 after their names tend to automatically be quicker than those with just an '00.

I'll be off home to try it later......

lookin forward to it.

Hey UMP, I can see that, I do it myself... there was no single lap I could finish doing at least 2 perfect corners in a row... :ouch: Not to mention how many times I restarted because I went off track before the start line...

I started with the RX-7 Type R Bathurst R (FD) '01 and easily blew my time by 3 seconds with the RX-7 Spirit R Type A (FD) '02.

The RX-8's are just not worth it, not even the Concept ones. That's too bad because they look ten thousand times better than the RX-7's... but I am not going to be competitive with looks :D

Here are my splits after 20 or so laps - tons of room for improvement:

T1: 0'17.782
T2: 0'48.113
T3: 1'11.379

Later.

The Wizard.

first session this week... after 5 laps

**OLD**

T2 - 48.479
T3 - 1'11.419

**NEW**

T2 - 47.733
T3 - 1'10.593

Yes folks it's "Bathurst" not "Bratwurst".

The home of Australia's best racetrack is not a sausage... :grumpy:

Hey man, sorry, I just copy and paste, I couldn't remember how it was written! Bratwursts are fine, though! With potato salads... hmmmm yumiii :D Hehehe

Anyway... any body can help me with turns 1 and 2? (first chicane). I would either miss it or stroll over it... :guilty:

what worked for me last night was to get a good speed before the finish line, put in 5th gear, pass the 2 first turns, and then reduce to 4th to get a better acceleration

what im doing at the moment...

cross the line in 5th, come in to the first left with a very shallow line, shift down to 4th, left hand side tyres as far onto the ripple strip as possible, without gettin airbourne, ease of the throttle going into the right hander, and fang it just before you hit the apex

@Kent

Just a suggestion matie,

As far as the concrete extensions around the track, CFM set a precedent at Deep Forest!

If there is a concrete extension on the outside of a rumble-strip, it is NOT a part of the track.

You can of course have two wheels on the concrete and two on the rumble-strip, but not two on the grass and two on the concrete.

Simple, effective and consistant!

As I said it's just a suggestion, and you are in-charge this week, but a consistant rule makes it better for all!

After missing last weeks WRS, I'm coming back with a vengance.

T1: 0:18.570
T2: 0:48.949
T3: 1:12.401

Using the Spirit R of course. ;)

Excellent point Neil

New splits for me!

Sprint '02

17.791
48.879
1'12.460

Completely clean to CFM's guidlines from Deep Forest!

2 wheels on-track/rumble-strips at all times

Neil

I will definetly only submit a lap time within the rules set out last week and pointed out above by Neil.
The rumble strip is the 'end' of the track, and concrete (or whatever surface) outside the track can be used as long as you are 'connected' to the track by having 2 wheels on the rumble strip.
Otherwise: if you were allowed to run 100 percent on concrete outside the track, then you should be allowed to run on grass even more so (as it is a 'slower' surface)... and then we have people racing cross country (like in this weeks race straight across, ignoring the chicane on the left...).
I hope we follow Neils points...

I'm gonna go back thru my replay I have from last night and make VERY certain I am within CFM's (and Neil's...lol) standards as I really don't want to create any gray areas in my racing. I'd much rather have a harder time perfecting within the limits than just go out and race while throwing caution to the wind. Although I haven't had to prove any of my times yet, I still want them to be perfectly clean cuz I have them on my site for other peeps to see. If my splits need to be deleted I'll definately let u guys know.

Cool combo, Kent. 👍

Just had to give it a go:

18.041
48.324
1'11.198

In the Spirit.

LOL!!!!!

I don't know if I'd call it the BEST Aussie racetrack...I happen to think Phillip Island is pretty sweet, but Bathurst is certainly more unique, climbing up that mountain. I just like the fast turns at Phillip a bit more - they suit my style of driving/riding. 👍

Ok, Ok geez.

 :sly:

Use the deep forest rules set by cfm.

Please take into account that I was confronted by that issue at 4am.
Caught me off gaurd so to speak (and the night that kept me out till about 2 didn't help either ;) ).

In my quick search of the archive I did a history chart... DF was week 4 right?
That was back when CFM was doing this alone so I am not well versed on what he may have done. :guilty:

Perfect Example- Motegi East. :)

We will be alright now though, I took the time to write out the history by hand.
It's posted next to my pc lol.
The course, car, and theme of races are accounted for in real world writing. 👍
That makes it really easy for me to setup races for the next week.
CFM, not sure if you have a history like that but it might help.
(that depends on your memory ;) )

...Later. :P

GRaraaarrrgh! And it's so frustrating too because you *know* you can take each corner right, why not just all at the same time! Of course when I do I'm going to get a time that makes me wet myself ;)

That's kinda what I figured when I posted what I did...

OK, here goes: first ever times posted:

T1: 0:17.664
T2: 0:48.897
T3: 1:12.573

Using the Spirit R Type A, DS2. Probably can do a couple of seconds faster, still learning the track....

If this needs to be moved please do so, but I figured it would be the easiest way to get everyones attention. (and I'm still getting used to where everything shoudl be posted, humble apologies for inapropriateness)

Does the reward weight system have a place in the WRS? Could CFM/Kent set up a 2 or 3 week series of races that took this into account? Sounds like a neat idea.
