Would be nice if the Group C one was longer with a bit of strategy but fun combo anyway

Cars picked and dressed.

Two of my least favourite tracks -- Willow Springs and Catalunya Rallycross -- but those reward tickets look nice.

I initially picked the McLaren MP4/4 '88 for the Neo Classical race, but wasn't sure if I'd be able to tune it down to 800PP. It turns out you can, if you switch to RH tires, add ballast, max out the power restrictor, and tinker with the downforce (lower the front, raise the back). I just tried it out and it still drives pretty nice there for an easy win.
 
Thoroughly enjoyed that Group C race at Watkins Glen these last few days… why is there no historic IMSA-type championship in this game? Surely the work of a moment to add an event series in to the menu system 🤷‍♂️

I don't think there is enough material to do a Historic IMSA championship of any kind as there's hardly enough cars to do a full IMSA Grid in any year (Even a current one is questionable with how many current GT3 cars there are.)

Really happy with the one hour endurance race this week. Although a bit disappointed with the low payout to grind that race for a week as opposed to the Le Mans race for example. But nice to receive a million credits for completing all five races.

And not to forget to still receive four bonus tickets/credits for the holiday logins.

Sardegna - Volkswagen Polo GTI '14 - Upgraded the tires to SS, which put the car just under the 500PP limit. It wasn't quite enough, though. I was able to take P2 on the final corner, but couldn't quite catch the leader on the sprint to the finish. Oh well, still got the first ticket.

Catalunya - Subaru WRX Gr.B Rally Car - There are few things that I actively dislike in GT7. This track is one of them. No changes to the car. Took the lead mid-way through the race for an easy win. Second box checked.

Deep Forest - Nissan Sileighty '98 - I didn't have to go too crazy with modifications to get this car competitive: SS tires, all the sports-level upgrades, and high close-ratio transmission. That wasn't near good enough for the win, though. Almost all the cars could blast past me on the straights. They were terrible in the corners, so I gained places there. Finished P3, which was good enough for the second ticket.

Willow Springs - McLaren F1 GTR Race Car '97 - I'm not big on this track either. I left the car unchanged. Ran the race on RM tires. Pitted for fuel only on lap 4. Took the lead from AI Tidge when he went into the pits on lap 9. Fourth box checked.

Bathurst - Lexus RC F GT3 prototype '16 - I enjoy endurance races, so this was right up my alley. I ran on RH tires and saved fuel for a 1-pit strategy (short-shifting at 50% of the rev bar, and bumping the fuel map up to 2 on the Conrod Straight). That got me 15 laps, where I pitted for fuel and fresh tires. It took me until lap 20 to take the lead, when Brown in the Ford finally pitted. It was an easy drive to the win from there. I enjoyed this race, but the payout is atrocious. A comparable custom race pays out 493,000 Cr. The final 1M ticket made up for it, though.

I had a lot of fun with this week's events. Kept all the cars with as low PP as needed to make the races challenging, and the car tuning enjoyable.

European Clubman Cup 400: Took a bit of tweaking and tune-ups, but getting this little Arbath to be fast enough to pass the Renault by the end of the race was a bit of fun. One of those races that was easy to get 3rd, difficult to get 1st.

Lightweight K-Cup: Decided to start with a bone stock Cap and try to keep it street tune and comfortable. Ended made for a good race that was close to the end.

Ferrari Circuit Challenge: The 512 BB is a bit of a beast. Was nice to drive at first, but when I tuned it up to be fast enough to win it got much nastier to handle. Took a bit of aero and tuning, but this car ended up being a blast to drive in Spain.

Nissan GT-R Cup: Had a stock Nismo R32 sitting around, but it didn't have the juice to catch the R35s in Tokyo. I gave it a Z-tune and had a blast on the course. There's just something about the ding ding ding ding ding ding ding ding...

World Group C Championship: Decided on the 787B (no turbo, no racing trans), and came in 3rd. Tossed on RM tires and took some downforce off, and came in 2nd. Tossed on this beautiful RX-792 P livery and drove the lugs off this thing to take the win. One of my favorite races in a long time. Had to push 100% the whole time and minimize every mistake. Time to set up a custom race like this that goes overnight...

Did the first four this morning.

Rally cross is so bad. I hate it. Not even fun; more like a chore. I had to do it twice; quit out on lap five of the first one as the AI was smashing my car all over the place, into the walls, etc. The AI cars must be made of lead, when they hit me I go flying... when I hit them I go flying.

The Willow one was also not my favorite. I didn't use a GrC car as it just seems like they'd be awkward around the track as it's quite small to open them up, but the AI disagrees I guess. I used the CLK on RM tires, minor fuel saving so no pit required and still only finished P3 behind the 962 and Jag who also no pit. P3 is all that was needed, so onward we go.

In my lack of time to really look and see what the last race was when posted here yesterday, I didn't realize it was: 1) at Bathurst (PUKE), and 2) it was an hour long race. I foolishly assumed it would be a typical ~20-25min race and the extra 500k (over a normal 500k ticket) was just cuz PD was feeling generous around the holidays. At this point I should've known better. I may not do it. If I do I'll use my trusty Epson NSX as with RM tires it comes it at exactly 800.00 PP. Not looking for a challenge here, just to get it done. We shall see.

Anyways here we go, week is already done.

1) European Sunday Cup 500 @ Sardegna B

Thanks to the new Randomizer feature I got a totally new car for me, the Clio V6 Phase I. Reading online how bad of a car it actually is to drive I was surprised to have that much fun driving it in GT, fully stock on CM tires. Unfortunately the AMG A45 was too fast on the straight with all that power so all I could manage was a P2. Fine enough for the ticket.

2) World Rally Challenge @ Catalunya Rallycross

For some reason I like racing in here, it's a bit messy I know but at least there is some battle and no chase the rabbit shenanigans. Went in with the 86 Gr.B and won with ease, took the lead on lap 6. No way someone can get a CRB here!

3) Silvia Sisters @ Deep Forest Reverse

I was told to do this with the S13 K's, and so I did. It was my 700pp SR20-swapped one, but still, it was the given car... Right? Yeah as you can expect it was an overkill. But I love this car, and I love this livery, big shout out to the author!

4) Neo Classic Competition @ Big Willow

Ah this track, and this event in this track, what a mess. Always some pile-up on the final corner, AI brake checking me for no reason on the slow section, and my usual incapability of staying focused made sure I could only get a P2, despite having an easy win in my hands. It is what it is, I'll take the result. The Toyota GT-One is fantastic at 800pp and deserved the win here.

5) WTC 800 Endurance @ Bathurst

Ahh, the big event here. As soon as I read there was a 60 minutes race, I was somewhat committed by it, let's say...

.. And I was subsequently extremely disappointed to see the payout was a ridiculous 140k just like any random 10 lap WTC 800 race. Meh. At least there was the million credits ticket, but I would've loved to re-do this race. Shame.
Anyways, the event was fun despite being sorted with the biggest Gr.3 in the smallest circuit for GT3s, the car was a fantastic drive and the race was eventually an easy win. FM4 and RM tires for an easy two stopper, with the last short stint in RS tires just for the sake of it. A couple shots this time, given the particular event!

Initially, I struggled because I was not ready for the Porsche 962s and their mega aggressive aero. I kept up (barely) with them in the high speed corners, but was getting completely schooled in mid-speed turns.

So I took a page from @Greycap and fitted the Death Star sized turbos. The outcome was as expected [beatdown].

But I returned to the event (again, and again, and again... :lol: ) to see if I could do it with all the Group C cars on stock power... I ran this event so much that I began to see cursed results with the 787bs holding back the 962s for the entire race.

Driving bliss!!!

I got everyone 1st place finishes on hard difficulty on Racing Medium tires. I also dragged everyone into the 1:32 fastest lap range. The C9 however, slammed down a downforce-powered thunderclap of 1:31.3xx.

THE GODS (CARS)
I could listen to the Jaaag XJ-R9 all day long. All that delicious torque all over the rev range! That engine is perfect!!

The Sauber C9 is the burbling turbo NASCAR V8 powered cornering demigod. "Thor gargling with nails"

The 787b gets to run full stupid front aero without fear of death (mostly), and is way, WAY better here than in real life. Yes, yes and its 4-rotor makes a strong case for the Naturally Aspirated inclined. Its speed comes from all of us (including the devs) believing that it was fast.

The R92CP has Velcro for tires and is the future (through a late 1980s filter) with bonus evil V8 noises.

And the 962 is... just kinda there.... If you know Dragon Ball Z, then the Porsche 962 is the Krillin of this bunch to me: overshadowed by the crazy group that he runs with, but still freakishly strong, all things considered. The 962 is the extremely competent and endlessly lovable dork

I'm sad to see this event go, but onto the next set of challenges. I'm VERY tempted use one of these for the 800pp endurance race, but may just settle on a V12 powered XJ220 instead 👀
