@UnshavenYapper - thanks mate. I got a good link there from @VentureDenny which goes into enough detail without completely baffling me, so I'm studying that now. I really just want to learn to do it myself, but I feel like trial and error isn't enough since there are almost infinite combinations and I don't know where to even start.

I wouldn't get to hung up on tuning, the build is far more important. You could have the best tune in the world on your car but if the build isn't right you will still struggle.

You've actually posted a good example with your set up for the Zonda. On a track like Le Mans the key is speed so you need to set the car up with that in mind.

Add as much power as possible and no aero. Your tune is actually ok (apart from you need to lose the downforce on the rear)

The way i learnt tuning the roll bars, suspension and rebound/bump was to follow a simple guideline

softer front, stiffer rear = oversteer
stiffer front, softer rear = understeer

I hate understeer so all my tunes are stiffer at the rear than the front. Oh, and in Forza 7 it looks like the bump is broken. For some reason minimum setting here (i.e. 1.0/1.0) works the best.

The rest i wouldn't worry to much about

Managed to take another 1.5 seconds off my time with a 3:48.424 which I'm pretty pleased about - but even so, the car is FAR from finished; still a lot of understeer, especially through those sweeping bends after the first Dunlop Bridge leading up to Mulsanne and also at the Porsche Curves. I'm really struggling to hit the apexes there and I know I'm losing a lot of time.
I do think this car is capable of 3:46-ish if I can get it driving tight.

Was just having a quick look at that link, and it all look quite familiar to me. except the description of the Caster. too my understand higher Caster helps in high speed sweepers where lower caster helps in tight hairpins.

Edit: But as Bipplefish were just saying, the car/build is way more important then the tune :)

I find getting camber set just right to be pretty important. When it's just right, the car seems to "hook up" to the track. I set it in free play. I run a short race, maybe 2 or 3 laps. Then watch the replay. With the telemetry on, hit pause when the car is in a hard turn. You can see the degree of camber in the page just before the tire temp page. I try to get the camber just slightly negative or zero with the car suspension about evenly compressed in a hard turn. Also look at the tire temps. When it is just right, the tire temps will be all pretty much the same from inner, middle and outer. Then it hooks up.

Im sure your confusing Caster with Camber :)

Also kept reading alittle, the info on diff settings is wrong in my oppinion too. I find if you set the Acc. to high the car understeers as long as you dont spin the tyres. of course if your being overly aggresive then it will result in oversteeer.

Right, I meant CAMBER when I said CASTER. I', watching the Fiesta Bowl and typing. And getting a lot of lag on my internet.
(I went back and edit it.)

It's a great game. I give up typing anymore.
And I find what you said about the diff settings is true.

The Zonda C does have some potential here, Normally I do not drive hyper cars much and rarely on road courses but this one does drive pretty well even when setup for max speed. I am a bit aggravated with it though as I know I can get a 3:45 or better out of it just can't seem to put it together all the way around the track. Best clean lap so far is a 3:48.1xx but I have been up 2-3 seconds on that several times then somewhere along the way it all goes wrong, to make it more aggravating I have to restart the game after every run to avoid stuttering during the race so I don't know about this one.

I may jump in the Venom in the next day or two just to see how it feels on the track. I don't think I have driven it anywhere as of yet.

@HBR-Roadhog It was you that posted about some tracks you could barely touch the white line without dirtyin your lap, right?

Well this track is it! those two last corners before the Mulsanne, and if you go alittle wide in the hairpin after 👎👎

The first corner before Mulsanne (Tertre rouge I think?) is a bugger. The amount of times I've dirtied my lap there :irked:

Yeah I have had several laps killed in those spots. It used to be even worse in older FM titles, the two chicanes on the straight would flag you if you ran up on the rumble strip at entry, mid or exit of the corner. You could get maybe an inch of tire on the strip before it flagged you as dirty. Many places on Nurburgring did so as well, thankfully they seem to be much better there now but I am still cautious of them there.

There are other tracks where this happens as well, just a spot here and there and no way of knowing where it may be until it bites you a enough times that you pay attention to the problem areas.

Still better than it used to be but needs improvement.

OK I think I'm gonna do a wee vote for the next car division and track. Since it is 2 polls I'll just ask you guys to comment on your selection here and I'll tally them up manually.
Also since there are so many to choose from, I'll make a selection of 4 of each and you guys vote from that.

It'll be like:

Track 1, 2, 3, 4 (replace numbers with names at the time, obviously)
Division 1, 2, 3, 4 (ditto)

And you simply comment (for example) "Track 3 and division 2". It will also lead to some interesting combinations I hope.
In the event of a tie, I'll cast the deciding vote (I won't vote otherwise).

Sound good and fair?
