Made my own version of some kapusta or bigos, whatever you'd call it. Although, I kind of deutsche-fied it with some johnsonville brats (beer brats and stadium brats. mmm... tastes like stadium) and summer kolsch instead of wine/water.

Freeze bacon pack and cut into lardons, render.

Add onion to bacon fat when rendered, sweat 'em. Add brats, toss to coat. Add 'shrooms.

Wait a bit, then add shredded cabbage (2 lbs) and rinsed sauerkraut (1 lb) tossed with diced apples. Pour kolsch on top and cover, simmer for 3 hours.

That really looks like Alpine like food but what did MyFitnessPal say about all that goodest food?

Getting prepped for the memorial weekend feast!

Tried this last night and it was delicious!!! Turkey hamburgers with McCormick's mesquite seasoning. Cooked 2 at a time in the George Foreman for about 7 minutes. Topped off with velveeta cheese, mayo, lettuce, and Stubbs bbq sauce. Very easy to make and yummy! I ate 1 and 1/2 burgers and was stuffed! Would have been even better with fresh sliced tomatoes. I have enough left over for 2 more meals. Desert was roasted almonds chocolate ice cream.

Who cares about MFP, this is good eats! Still, let's calculate it:

I'll consider a serving to be 1/20th of the entire pot, since this is supposed to be a side dish (you know, for memorial day). The whole thing is around 4,000 calories. There's no way you can eat the whole thing unless you want to turn your bathroom into Castle Bravo.

Each serving is around 214 calories, with 11g carb, 15g fat, and 10g protein. And I refrigerated it after making a well in the middle, so I was able to scoop out all the fat that had congealed. And there was a lot, so while it won't lube a stool quite as well it's likely much healthier now.

In the future I would perhaps select a leaner sausage to include, as well as to only render the leanest part of the bacon as my lardons. The biggest source of calories in this thing is actually the sausage.

Just watched my recorded episode of Bizarre Foods America. Now I know where you go the idea to make this. ;)

What? My buddy Dan makes kapusta at his restaurant The Sybarite Pig. I wanted some so badly but didn't want to drive all the way to Boca.

Barbecued pork chop sandwich, with onions and pickles, made using Mrs. Dash Mesquite Grill Marinade, and a side of cole slaw, following the Mrs. Dash cole slaw dressing recipe.

To drink, I had some Crystal Light lemonade, using chopped and frozen pineapple cores as ice cubes. It keeps it cold, and as they thaw they release juice, giving it a tropical flavor and adding potassium and vitamin C.

And for a midnight snack, some tortilla chips with my homemade chili lime seasoning.
