What did you do in FM23 today?

Took a Ford Cobra R SVT 1990-something (I think it's 1995) up to level 50 in the B-class Open tour.

This car was a lot smoother snaking through the turns then I would've expected from a car with a pony on its front grille. I think the tuning setup I used may have done a lot to defang its more slithery tendencies.

Any road up, it held onto the corners with a constrictor-like grip and I think that's enough reptile puns for now.

Finished Open C and B. Tried to run A with the Lotus GT430 but the Camaro safety car was just too strong on the straights and I came in 2nd at Kyalami and Laguna Seca and won Hockenheim. So now I have to waste time this afternoon to go back and run it again. Probably will try the Cadillac Black Wing this time.

Re-ran that A Open race again this time with the Cadillac Black Wing and won comfortably. It's amazing the difference displacement made.

Finished the rest of the open series. Used my C8.R GT3 car for Hakone instead of any of the on sale Porsches.

But now to the bad part. This rewards Turbo Porsche, you call this a reward? I knew Maple Valley was going to be trouble with this thing and it was. I used 15 minutes of the added practice time trying to get a handle on this thing and I just couldn't do it. As for the main race this was the longest 5 lap race I can ever remember. It took me nearly 45 minutes to finish the thing. I lost count of how many times I had to rewind. It just couldn't hang with the older GT3 RS with their aero. I finished a distant 3rd.

But because I haven't had enough punishment yet I ran it in two free play races just to make sure it wasn't just a Maple Valley problem....and it wasn't. I ran a 10 lap at Sebring and finished 14.5 seconds back in 3rd. Then I ran Nurburgring GP and this is what happened. Both of these races were on Level 5 not 6 even though the times look like I was on 6.

So I think this car goes into the digital dust bin along with the Koenigsegg One.

Currently running through my version of the IMSA WeatherTech Championship. Had to switch some tracks (Homestead for Long Beach, Sunset Peninsula for Detroit and Mid-Ohio for MoSport).

I sit down at my desk at work, looking to enjoy my lunch and browse the forum, only to be greeted with this dreadful paragraph.

I still have a few classes left before this race, but at least now I can prepare for the madness. lol

edit:
I finally finished the open class series last night. There's definitely something wrong with the rewards Porsche. The front suspension feels like it wants to lift the tires off the road, even in the slightest steering movement. As soon as that happens, good luck correcting for any type of recovery. I dropped the front tire pressure down to 26.5 and it did seem to help a little bit. I left the rear pressure alone. I had to drop the AI down to level 5 and turn on rewind. I'm sure it's a good car with a tune, but some of these cars are just terrible in their factory form.

Spent a nice relaxing day doing 30 lap D-class races around shorter tracks I usually don't race on much, in an effort to get back to my goal of bringing as many garage cars up to level 50 as I can. I'd forgotten that Lime Rock is a pretty fun track with a field of smaller, low power cars that can handle the chicane layouts without needing to come to a near halt.

Also was reminded that the '03 Ford Focus is pretty agile with stock suspension and tires, but then again there is a reason that car was in a bunch of racing games back in the PS2 era.

Finished Open Class R in a McLaren (think it was an MP4).

This week's Porsche races won't be much of a challenge if the first one's results against the hardest AI are anything to go by. It's the first time I've beaten an entire field of cars, let alone level 8 ones.

All done for another week. Had issues on Road Americanwith the 961 as it just bogged down on the start. Fitted Race tyres and had the same problem (already had the Restrictor plate upgrade). Had to “feather” the throttle on the redline and floor it after the start to get a decent launch.

They should have included an option to have Ravel's "Bolero" as a soundtrack since it felt like driving on ice. "You shouldn't have much trouble finding grip out there" chirps the narrator lady at Kyalami but I beg to differ.

Fortunately the races were short. I suspect the "endurance" in the tour title refers to enduring your Porsches' iffy roadholding as one endeavours to keep them on the track around the Toe corner at Watkins Glen while attempting to avoid other cars doing the same.

Both cars seem to be very slippery even on softs. Before doing this week's tour I tried them out in R-class open and they were totally blown away by the competition.

Did the Classic Porsche race cars event in Featured Tour (Second series of the list) with the 935/78 and yikes, not even Sport TCS will stop it from going crazy at high speed if you don't change the tires on a unchanged setup. Did it at 900PI with a fully unrestricted restrictor, wide vintage racing tires and lowest profile, heaviest rims.

270 KMH of speed (145 ish MPH) and it goes insane from the slightest cornering. The Pro here? It obliterates the competition in terms of speed. 👍

Tonight I thought I would try the 935 in a race with better competition than the challenges, that was a mistake. I ran this race 5 times and the last two were with a "grip" tune from the tune store. Just could not figure the car out. Massive understeer but I think that's what this car was known for in real life. In all five races I finished 3rd. The front two cars were just gone. In the challenge against those lower cars you didn't have to push it so much. I've ran it so much that now the car is at level 34. Tomorrow I'm going to switch cars to another higher PI GTX car and run this again and I can almost guarantee it will be different. Out of all 5 races this was the best result.

LOL, you could've read my previous post and saved yourself some hassle.

Frustrated with the Porsches I bought a McLaren Senna '18 which was okay at winning against Level 6-7 AI from a P7 start depending on the track. I may go for the Vulcan next.

I was just curious to see how it was against better opposition. After I got thrashed in the first race I ran it again to see if it was one of those one off flukes where they equip the 2 front AI cars with hyper drives. But it happened again and then I got sucked into that worm hole of seeing if there was anything I could do to help it without maxing it out like you did. And apparently there isn't.

I understand. It's definitely digital car crusher time for these two though.

Phew, I finally finished the endurance race at Sebring and got the Lambo. Starting at 12th place with my 2017 Oreca 07 my strategy was the hard compound for my two mandatory stops. I noted that the AI cars started with medium (and presumably kept changing to medium), so I caught them when they started fading or pitting earlier than me. For the last 6 laps I opted for soft tires, and it paid off again, earning 2nd place (behind an alien after I saw its lap times) while nursing my faded soft tires during a hair-raising last lap.

Did some hypercar racing in free play in a Koenigsegg One:1. The random weather selection kept putting me in wet tyres in a heavy thunderstorm. I never had this problem in the greatest of all Xbox racing games FM4, probably because it didn't have any weather changes. Or One:1s.

Actually it wasn't a problem at all as this car held the road comfortably with next to no grip problems.
