First off, I’m not a paid spokesperson.
I firmly believe if you are not watching the
@Tidgney YouTube channel – especially the car profiles – you are missing out in my opinion. He has lots of great advice from fuel saving to track guides and additional tips . . . including how to manage tires . . . that truly helped me elevate my driving.
Last night was a prime example: The Manufacturers Cup race.
At Watkins Glenn I took my trusty M6 into a 15 lap race. I qualified 5th (another BMW was on pole) and was able to move up to 4th reasonably early on behind said BWM, a Mercedes and a GTR. I managed my tires for a fight with the Merc which had fallen into 3rd. With 3 laps remaining, I could tell the Mercedes had almost no front tire left. I went for a pass on the inside of the long, uphill right hand turn and made it stick. Podium finish!
Thinking I was done racing, I went into the time trial at Fuji. Initially my NSX time was at 1:29.5xx, a solid silver at about 3.65% if I recall correctly. I decided I’d buckle down for a few laps in VR, and I improved fairly quickly to a 1;28.605 – a safe gold time. Result!
To relax, I went to Haggerty’s . . . buying a 2nd Pontiac GTO and a 2nd Ferrari F40 to celebrate the night. I took the F40 to Grand Valley for a quick spin and just loved watching the scenery as I listened to the engine rise and fall like the tide. A couple of times I came to a stop, let the car idle and listed to the waves/wildlife sounds of the scene. Sometimes we overlook the amount of detail these folks put into the game. It was a good way to wind down.
At this point I turned off my game and hopped to YouTube.
I watch Tyrannocyrus Rex’s channel fairly often and in my feed I see a thumbnail of his Anti-Meta Meta Club for the week:
I recognized the car in the thumbnail. It’s me in my “Marmaduke” Trek Livery for a Gr. 4 650s! He talks through how he passed me (I show up around the 10:15 mark, I thought I’d be better served by trying to follow you T-Rex after you passed me but I couldn’t keep up.
It was a great race with a few folks I knew in the room . . . starting with Windfire (#TPRA) whom I hadn’t shared a room with in a while – great to see him again – and including Z28 and a couple other folks I’ve driven with over the years.
After a not great day, Gran Turismo 7 saw me off with a gigantic smile. All clean, all fun and all in glorious VR.
