What happens if I get 30 infraction points?

When it comes to grammar, we tolerate the odd spelling error or grammatical overight; after all, we all make mistakes. So don't worry about that mis-spelt word, forgotten apostrophe or mis-placed semi-colon. We're not going to come after you for a single mistake in a post. It's when grammar is consistently poor that we'll take action. For example, yesterday I saw (one another forum), someone who kept writing "summit" instead of "something". If you did that here, it's very definately something that we'd be looking to correct.

Sorry to jump in on a thread but I have question. Do you know when you recieve infraction points? I've never done anything to my knowledge to warrant one but I'm just curious.

Yes, you do. The system automatically dispatches a private message telling you that you have received a warning or an infraction and the issuing moderator's reasons for doing so.

I've always wondered if I had infractions or not because I used to be... childish... a couple years back when I first registered. Surprisingly, I don't have any. I guess that's in the past and I've changed enough to know what's right and wrong.

Some good GTP life expectancy information here, thanks.

Yeah, I agree with that.

I know for some it might be obvious just from reading the AUP what is expected and not expected, what to do and not to do, but I think it would be cool if threads like this were either kept, or displayed, or referred to new members in a obvious or 'obligitry' (sorry - can't spell) way.

I'm not sure if everyone would agree, but if this was some 'kind' of sticky, or if there was a place on the forum where this, and other threads like this (or the recent 'abuse of power' thread), could be displayed as possibly 'example' or 'must read' threads then I think it would benefit alot of people, especially new members or those with warnings or minor infraction points already accrued.

It might help the mods from having to repeat themselves about certain things that are 'unwritten rules', i.e. what is frowned upon or looked at in a negative way.

Plus it would be a great opportunity for them to say ''we told you so - here!!'' :D

People generally point out to new posters any errors they may have made. If the new posters fail to act on this, report any offending posts.
If the newbie starts kicking off, just stay out of the thread, you don't want to get caught in the crossfire. There will always be a few idiots, just don't stoop to their level.

I have a question for the moderators. What type of infringement do you hate the most and how tolerant are you when it comes to it?

Porn, gore, or commercial advertising will get you an instant ban.

I was scared when I got my first warning...

I'm happy I bothered to read the rules, I don't want to get any infraction points. But since I'm a rather mature 13 year old, I'll make sure that doesn't happen.

Is it a crime to talk about an ad without promoting it?
As in "Hey, guys! I found a great price on a G27* at newegg*!"? No, that's fine, unless you own the store selling said item and are trying to bring business to your store.

*examples only

Edit: *!"? - That bit looks like I was swearing, doesn't it?

Innocent 15 year old, this is rare to find these days 👍.
I know other people with that fetish.
Some good people I know/knew are into Porn and Gore, but as yet it's not a protected characteristic under European Law, in fact it's frowned upon.

Any pornography that seems to have resulted in damage to nerve endings or permanent damage of any other nature is illegal to view in the UK.

Don't ask me how I know that. I'm not into it but let's just say that the boundaries are very vague in relation to 'stuff my girlfriend hates'.

This threads went far out:scared:. Anyway my questions are: -how much bad stuff would you have to do to get that many points and -do you get points if say you got a warning for double posting a long time ago, but no longer do so? -if yes, are points permanently on your record? Thanks for your response.

We don't usually give permanent points for double posting or the first "Lazy grammar" infraction.

You can look at your infractions and see whether your points are permanent or expiring. Once they've expired, they don't count to your 30 point total.

Besides being a spam-bot, you have to do something pretty horrible to get a perma-ban. Expletive-filled, racist, homophobic posts work best.

how much bad stuff would you have to do to get that many points
That depends on your definition of "bad stuff." If "bad stuff" is poor grammar, you'll start off with a warning, then if things don't improve, expect a 5 point infraction, and so on.

Go on a tirade like a few members have tonight and you're gone. Instantly. Do not pass go, do not collect $200.
do you get points if say you got a warning for double posting a long time ago, but no longer do so?
If someone has a warning on record and are still doing the same thing(s) that earned them the warning, then yes, you'll likely receive an infraction. Double posting isn't likely going to warrant an infraction unless it's excessive or continues.
if yes, are points permanently on your record?
That all depends. The staff has the option of warnings, permanent infractions or expiring infractions. And just because an infraction has expired doesn't mean you're completely off the hook - we can still see them.

Edit: niky! :ouch:

That's funny, I don't look like a tree...

On the subject of tonight's action... I almost dread having to go into the Banned User Log... it's just too depressing.

9 people for the month and 2 for today... And it's only 5AM for me!

In other news, I'm still shocked that I've never actually been properly warned here... Yes, a few general "cool it off guys" posts and a warning to the GT4 tuning section in general, but never a proper warning. Hopefully this doesn't change any time soon.

When I looked at the banned user log I was surprised that some members have been banned by swearing at moderators, by having the courage to swear at them. I wonder how the moderators feel about these insults...

Is there even a 1 point infraction? Poor grammar seems to me the most "innocent" thing you can do.

While there can be custom infractions with as many or as few points as the staff deems necessary, giving someone a one pointer isn't likely to happen. If we did, we're essentially saying "We'll give you 30 chances to use your shift key before you're gone" and the staff just doesn't have that kind of time. Standard issue for lazy grammar is 5 points, so you're still given plenty of opportunity.
