What have you done to your car today?

My intake hose hasn't arrived yet, but I've replaced the vacuum lines I put in not long ago with Samco items, as the other ones were crap and warped with heat! Also fitted the last of the engine mounts, which was a bit of a pain (the bolts holding the cross member at the rear of the engine were insanely tight - had to heave with both my legs on a breaker bar).

I wanted to do this tonight as my car goes in for a dyno tune tomorrow.

UPDATE: Well, the old intake pipe wasn't up to the task, its leaking. So no dyno tune until new one arrives, however they did do a compression test on the engine, I was a little afraid to ask for the results, but it was:

Cyl1: 180 psi
Cyl2: 180 psi
Cyl3: 180 psi
Cyl4: 180 psi

In other words, PERFECT! I'm pretty stoked, so it back in the garage waiting on the hose, when thats on its straight beck to the shop, dyno tuned and hopefully a lot faster!

Pics or shenanigans... nobody has compression that good!

Good luck with the dyno-tuning. I need to do some work under the hood, but I'm plumb out of money at the moment.

👍

EDIT: Once the car is tuned properly on the dyno and boost levels and timing are all set I'll upload and image of the graph. Unless of course it is embarrasing haha!

My trusty Apexi WS has finally broken after 8 years and 6 chicago winters. It broke right at the rear-most flange. I was in a hurry and didn't have time to rent out a welder so took it to the "trusty"(cheap) Velasquez shop a few miles away since this is on the car I drive solely to college. I should've know right away to get out of there when they told me they don't take plastic, don't carry cash anymore, funny since they didn't complain the last 2 times I was there with other cars. They said they'd take credit if I paid 2x as much. I walked around and found an ATM that worked and paid. Yesterday going up a hill I got some wheel spin and the exhaust got loud again. I look under it his morning and I'm pretty pissed. I asked them to cut out the flange and weld in a new piece. I guess they can't weld titanium cause all they did was cut out the flange and replace it with a pipe and some clamps. The piece they cut out was long for the new piece of pipe and it came loose. I've been under the car trying to fix it but it's not looking good.

HPT
Managed to get 13MPG out of a 1.6 NA over 40 miles. Think I was driving a little hard... :)

MX5? My last tank was only 19mpg and I hadn't been driving particularly hard. The tank before that was 34mpg!

Waiting to see what I get on this one. If it's also very low then I'm going to have to do a bit of trouble-shooting as it definitely shouldn't be that poor without plenty of thrashing!

I checked my 240sx a few months ago, 237,000 miles (rebuilt sometime ago though, don't know exactly at what mileage) and I got between 175-180 psi on all 4 cylinders as well.

Yeah... typically a good engine will be within a 5-10 psi range... but exact compression on an old/abused engine? Insane!

@Punknoodle: Good luck on the rollers. Blow a gasket.

On second thought... don't.

Just got a exhaust on the VE. Youtube's got it up now but still processeing.

Love it. I envy you for having an HSV Senator as well.

EDIT: Suzie's back on the road now too, although I can't find a new windscreen surround for it for the life of me. Bought a transfer case bushing kit for $25 on eBay which was installed in no time at all and it can now actually select gears!

Got my Integra checked out today by a friend. Turns out I need to fix the transmission/engine mounts after I noticed the car jerks everytime I switch gears. :grumpy:

Just did all of mine, pretty easy to do, you should be able to get heavy duty rebonded mounts for an Integra, they are fully bonded with rubber, not just in points so will last forever basically, and are better suited to performance applications. Normally its an exchange thing, get the mounts then return your old ones to them and they get them rebonded for the next customer. (I had to leave a deposit, that I got back once I returned my old mounts)

Wouldn't recommend getting second hand mounts as rubber perishes. The heavy duty ones I bought were a little more expensive than buying new factory items.

I'm supposed to be getting it done this Tuesday by the same guy who changed its timing belt, so I shall be okay. But thanks for this information. I'll keep it in mind. 👍

Today, I completed a lift of the optical illusion variety. I took off the front valance that was just barely hanging on for life, and gained 2.5 inches of ground clearance in the front before the tires. Also I now have the bottom of the radiator support showing slightly, and you can see the I-Beams, plus a lot more of the tires, all from the front. Looks a lot more 4x4 from the right angle, and yet no different from others

No, there is no lost internal component protection. The valance in it's time may have protected the truck from rocks, but it was flapping in the breeze until now.

That's not just car ;) Well done mate

Haha, thanks. If that run had been clean it would've been a 1'29.591, taking first place overall for PAX!

And I'm certain my last few runs could've had a lot of time shaved off if my brakes weren't fading away. We ran more runs than usual in the last session and there was less time between each run, so the heat just kept building up. Dropping from about 50mph to 15mph or so for a particular turn, the pedal went to the floor and I had to just hope I'd stop well enough. Must be getting some Hawk pads next season.

Ouch... do they allow aftermarket brake parts or does that bump you up a class?

Sweet result. Especially sweet considering your car is a four-door.

Stock pads are pretty pathetic, so go HP Plus. The HPS pads my Civic wore were exposed as not-good-enough during some fast and heavy mountain road driving. Fifty to fifteen is nothing, try 100 to 25. And again. And again, like 5 or 6 times. Going downhill. Serious pads need to be serious, and the HP Plus can handle that.

Don't forget stainless lines if they're within the rules.

Just this. Oh and I bought some 3m headlight restoration kit for the car and now the headlights basically look new!

Yeah, I'm gonna get Hawk HP+ for spring.

And yes, four doors rule.

Not particularly sure about brake lines. This has been the first case of my brakes lacking anyway, so I think the Hawk pads will probably take care of any issue I'll ever have in Autocross.

Brake fade usually results in a stiff pedal but no brakes, not the pedal going to the floor. That's usually an indication of boiling fluid, but I doubt that's what happened.

Unless you mean "went to the floor" as in "I mashed it to the floor in an attempt the make the car slow down but it didn't."

I'd go with Hawk HP+ as well, but I would really consider getting brake lines as well. It's not that you "need" them, it's just that you will have a more consistent brake pedal, especially at high temperatures. Consistency is always good.
