What have you done to your car today?

New tyres for the Skyline were installed. Not performance tyres, just some cheapos so that the boys in blue don't have anything to defect me for. Turns out that the tyres that I bought The Cereal Box with were too wide and too low-profile; R31's supposed to be running 185/75R14 and I was running 205/60R14 on the front and 215/65R14 on the back. Got a much more natural stance now and the pull to the left is a lot less noticeable.

Took the car in for a full tune up plus new front brakes. I'm also getting a 47 point inspection done on all the wear parts to make sure everything is in good working order and since it was free through the dealer. For some reason they ran out of sparkplugs though and needed to order some more. They only had three in stock which was odd since all MINI's are four cylinders.

The upside is I get a 2011 MINI Cooper S to play around with for the night, it really is a nice car!

It wasn't fast enough, so my buddy and I installed a Stillen exhaust on the Z :D. Now it purrs like a kitten, and has some extra grunt...V6 sexiness FTW!

Moar suspension work for me. This time I got started with putting my last two Koni's on the Civic. These front struts were backordered for months.

Replaced what was left of the Mini's rear shoes so I now have a fully functioning handbrake, the footbrake doesn't feel so looong now either so thats a bonus. :D

New front subframe front mounts changed with a washer added that should have been on the main bolt in the first place, the mounts themselves weren't as bad as I thought with squeeking noise I'd been getting, adding that washer should cure that little noise.

Started looking at a couple of spare cylinder heads I had laying around as when topping up my oil I noticed it's starting to show signs of head gasket failure, a job for another weekend. :(

Konis are officially done on the Civic. And I love them. Definitely an improvement in ride quality and they seem to handle great. I need to experiment a little more on the rebound adjustment to smooth out bumps at very low speed.

Nice, Eric.

Installed an oil catch can on the DD. Only to find that in the week I had driven since I last checked, the hose between valve cover and intake piping has a chocolatey build up inside. Check radiator, can't see liquid. Top it off, drive around, pop hood, and see coolant coming out of the cap.
Looks like the head gasket is gone. At least now I have a good reason to finally go ahead with the swap. Now to find another local DE-K.

I took the ECU out of my car and will sent it tomorrow to Germany to get it chipped.

225PS ->260PS
280NM -> 365NM

Got this induction tube to replace the plastic one

And I got also this shot shifter kit

Would have loved to get this too, but it is a bit pricey.

I took my car to the dealer and had them reprogram the Driver Information Centre so that when I start the car it now says 'HELLO MATTHEW' instead of 'DRIVER 1'. The 2nd (guest) key fob, when used, will now display the message 'NOT YOUR CAR / NOT FOR SALE'. I think this is just too cool - hooray for vanity! :D

But the best part is that they did it for free.👍

Sound great man, great little pops off throttle :)

I get mine back tomorrow, it's getting a 3 inch stainless system turbo back with a high flow cat and single muffler. Exhausts are so much fun haha

I agree it does sound good!

I got the Continental ExtremeContact DW's on the car to replace the worn out Dunlop Direzza DZ101's. I'll post up a review after they get broke in and the weather climbs above 45 degrees and dries out a bit. They look good though!

Picked up my car tonight, it is MUCH deeper and fairly loud, has a nice purr to it under acceleration. Fairly droney down low and off throttle, but I like it.

It obviously works too - I decided to test it by taking it for a quick blat on the motorway, as soon as I nailed it coming on to the motorway from the on ramp, I hit boost cut. Doh!

Had to limp it home with the ECU in safe mode, so basically it was running pig rich and as soon as I even gave it a bit of a push on the go pedal it would cut, not fun.

So I'm about to go down there, get the code from the ECU to make sure it was boost cut, reset the ECU, check all my turbo and vacuum piping and wind down the boost controller a bit!

Fun and games and all that...

Speaking of vacuums...:ouch:

That one not being connected REALLY made the car not want to run.
But then again since I didn't install it I didn't really know about it.

I also added new filters.

Dude... Gloves? You're SUPPOSED to get your hands dirty when working on cars
I've learned to use gloves at work and now I can't stand working on cars without them. Can't pick up your phone, can't change the music on your Ipod, can't pull your pants up after leaning over a car without getting them dirty, ect ect. With gloves you just remove them and do whatever.

I get boxes of rubber gloves from Harbor Freight and we go through them like crazy when working on our cars. Priceless accessories lol.

^^^
Yeah my dad gets a new pair from work everyday. Most of the time they arn't dirty.

My friend does that, he ends up having black hands and then he tries to scrub the dirt off and it doesn't. So he figures if it doesn't come off with soap and the like it wont come off on his food.:P

:dopey:Yes...

Thats what I'm like, I get my hands right dirty, and wash them with that gritty soap - works a treat, but yeah you have a point about the whole answering phone, changing song on ipod etc.

Anyway, reset my ECU last night, took it for a drive today after adjusting the boost control, its holding boost better now and I couldn't get it to hit the cut again, so all fixed. I was a bit worried my internal wastegate was going to have a hard time keeping up with the new exhaust and I would get boost creep again - fixed last time (when it only had the bigger dump pipe on it) by getting the exhaust ports on the wastegate enlarged, they are now at their limit, so if it didn't work I'd have to look at other, more expensive remidies. All good.

Anyway, here's a picture of the tip of the new exhaust - I had him put a burnt edge on it as I really like that look, he did a really good job of the whole system, nicely tig welded and he installed it in 3 stages for easy dissasembly Its now got a 2.5" dump with seperated wastegate pipe, going in to a 3" mandrel bent stainless pipe all the way through to the rear with a high flow cat up front and a single muffler at the rear.

Yes, yes I know....
I found the tape somewhere in my basement.
And I just haven't gotten the chance upgrade the sound system yet.:)

@ Thatman: Wow it's a long time since I've seen a Fc, your pics brought back some memories, my friend had one just like that and we changed the air filter like you did, but the car never ran again for reasons nobody could figure out. Does it beep when you hit the red line?

Back on topic, I painted my front brake calipers a kind of grey colour, exciting stuff.

Just replaced the old rubber exhaust hangers (as it eats through them in less than a year) with some nice new PowerFlex ones.

Technically I didn't do it, but:

Yeah. In case a few of you don't bother to click on the thumbnails for whatever reason, The Cereal Box's passenger-side window is now all over the interior of the car. Poo came out when a boot smashed through it followed by a drunk bloke trying to assault my cousin. Not a very relaxing evening to say the least.

Did you forget to plug in the MAF?:) I have an amusing one on youtube, though you have to type in JFSX to find it....but yeah either way go figure...

And yes it buzzes when redlined, all of them do actually.(I think)

Keef also has a FC. But In case you didn't see my Gxl model I had the paint job was very 80's...
